He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 18: Please Get Me a Lawyer
Natalie Morgan hummed.
"We’re all friends. He probably won’t mind," Felix Finch said, handing Natalie Morgan a business card. "I’ve already spoken with the owner. If you decide to go for it, you can head straight over. The owner is a great person."
"Thank you, Felix."
After she got out of the car, Felix Finch handed her an umbrella. "Take it."
"No need, it’s just a few steps away."
"The early autumn rain is cold, and you’re already soaked. Be good, take it."
Natalie Morgan obediently took the umbrella, thanked him, and watched Felix Finch drive away. As she turned, she nearly ran into a wall of flesh.
Looking up, her gaze met a pair of sinister eyes.
’Wasn’t he supposed to be at the hospital with Wanda Lynch?’
’What is he doing downstairs from my apartment?’
"What are you doing here?"
"If I hadn’t come back, I never would have known you’d have Felix Finch drive you home."
He would never allow his woman to be coveted by another man.
Even if he didn’t love her anymore, he wouldn’t allow it.
Natalie Morgan scoffed. "If I said it was a coincidence, would you believe me?"
"Do you really take me for a fool?"
If he hadn’t seen Felix Finch’s car pull up in front of Natalie Morgan, if he hadn’t seen her get in without the slightest hesitation, maybe he would have believed her.
"I had barely left before you were hooking up with Felix Finch. Natalie Morgan, you are so disobedient." He grabbed her ear, leaning in to speak with rough savagery. "Is it that you won’t listen to a single thing I say? If you’re not going to listen, then you might as well not have this ear."
The man was incredibly strong.
The pain made Natalie Morgan raise a hand to block him, which only further enraged the already furious man.
He twisted her ear, giving it a full turn.
Blood dripped, drop by drop, from the side of her head.
Natalie Morgan clutched her ear, her eyes squeezed shut in pain.
Blood stained the gaps between her fingers; her ear had been brutally torn.
The wind snatched the umbrella from her hand, sending it tumbling across the ground before it got stuck in the shrubbery.
He watched her with an air of cold indifference.
Yet his fingertips were slowly clenching.
...
Natalie Morgan took a taxi to the hospital by herself to get treated.
The doctor gave her cosmetic stitches that wouldn’t leave a scar.
Sitting on a chair outside the emergency room, she closed her eyes while receiving an anti-inflammatory IV drip.
Serena Sutton rushed over.
"What happened? How did you get hurt?"
"I was careless." Natalie Morgan didn’t want to elaborate.
"Let me see the report." Serena Sutton was calm until she looked, at which point she was so angry she almost started cursing. "A torn ear? Did you manage to rip your own ear off? Who did this? Was it that bastard Theodore Grant?"
Natalie Morgan didn’t answer.
Her phone pinged.
A friend request from an unknown number.
She ignored it.
The number sent several more requests, one after another.
The notifications annoyed Serena Sutton. "Who is that?"
She tapped to accept.
The moment the request was accepted, the stranger transferred one hundred thousand.
"Who is this? Transferring a hundred thousand right off the bat? It couldn’t be..." The only person Serena Sutton could think of who was that rich and arrogant was that dog, Grant. "...Is he trying to pay to atone for his sins? Or is this hush money to wipe the slate clean?"
Natalie Morgan picked up her phone, glanced at it, returned the money, and then deleted the unknown number.
She wouldn’t take his money.
"Claire, please help me find a lawyer."
"Theodore Grant still won’t agree to an amicable separation?"
"I don’t want to drag this out any longer."
’Even if this process is hard, I have to be brave and end it.’
Once her injury had healed a bit, Natalie Morgan went to the themed restaurant.
The owner had saved a spot for her.
’He probably did it out of respect for Felix Finch.’
Whenever Natalie Morgan played the guzheng, she would wear a hanfu. With just a little bit of styling, she looked as beautiful as a goddess.
The owner had specially prepared a separate performance stage for her.
If a customer made a private request, she would go to their room and play for two hours for two thousand yuan.
She had been working at the restaurant for a week, and quite a few customers had requested her.
There were also handsy customers, but they didn’t dare go too far. At most, they would "accidentally" brush the back of her hand. She would just pretend she didn’t feel it and move on.
’In the service industry, as long as it’s not too outrageous, there’s no need to make a fuss.’
After the evening session ended, 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Natalie Morgan was about to change and head home.
The owner walked over and called out to her. "Morgan, a table of customers came in late. They want to request you for a few more songs. I quoted them three thousand. Are you willing?"
The owner never made things difficult for her.
And Natalie Morgan would never disrespect the owner.
Besides, three thousand was enough for a month’s living expenses.
’I have to earn this money.’
"Of course, boss."
"Thanks for your hard work, then."
"Mhm, I’ll go touch up my makeup."
After touching up her makeup,
Natalie Morgan carried her guzheng into the customers’ private room.
The guests at the table had mostly finished eating. A few of them had their arms around each other’s shoulders, whispering in each other’s ears.
The room was large, and their postures were relaxed. It was clear they were here for entertainment.
Natalie Morgan didn’t look up.
After setting up her guzheng, she began to play.
The melodious sound from the strings, like high mountains and flowing water, quickly captured the attention of the men in the room.
"This broad is pretty good, I..." The drunk man had just started to walk forward when another man yanked him back. "...Open your damn eyes and see who that woman is!"
Marcus Sawyer rubbed his eyes. "...She looks a bit familiar."
Gavin Gable pointed to the man next to him, who had been staring intently at the woman across the room. "Theodore’s wife."
"Theodore’s wife, out working a job like this? No way."
"Heard they’re getting a divorce."
Marcus Sawyer understood. "Ah, divorce. It’s always a fight to the bitter end. Look at the vicious way Theodore is staring at her. It’s like he wants to tear her apart and devour her."
That may be so, but the other man still offered a word of caution. "I’d advise you not to go over there."
"What’s there to be afraid of? If Theodore actually cared about her, would he let her come out and perform like this?"
He was a man; you could tell if a man loved a woman or not just by looking in his eyes.
And clearly, there was no love in Theodore Grant’s eyes.
Pouring a glass of wine, Marcus Sawyer staggered over to Natalie Morgan.
"Stop for a minute."
Natalie Morgan immediately stopped playing and looked up at him. "Sir, is there a particular piece you’d like to hear? Just let me know."
"I don’t like listening to music. I like to drink." Marcus Sawyer held the glass out to Natalie Morgan. "Do me a favor and drink this."
As he spoke, he deliberately glanced back to check Theodore Grant’s reaction.
Seeing that he had no reaction, Marcus grew bolder. He placed a hand on the woman’s shoulder. "I’ve got a reputation to maintain, you know. All my brothers are watching."
Natalie Morgan never drank with customers. She rose slightly, pulling her shoulder away, and politely refused, "I don’t drink. I’m sorry."
"So you’re really not going to show me any respect?" Marcus Sawyer hooked an arm around the back of Natalie’s neck and pushed the glass toward her lips. "If you don’t show me any respect, I’m not going to show you any either."
When she refused to drink, he grabbed her head and forced the wine down her throat.
Natalie Morgan choked, tears welling up in her eyes.
"I’m not trying to bully you." He slapped a thick stack of red bills in front of Natalie Morgan. "I’ve seen plenty of girls like you, pretending to be all high and mighty. Ten thousand for a glass. As long as you’re willing to drink, my money is good."
