He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 20: Let Go of Her
"I’m not going. I’d rather die than go." She shook her head, her furrowed brow a clear sign of her resistance.
"Suit yourself."
He ignored her, ducking into the car. After a quick glance at her in the rearview mirror, he slammed on the gas and shot off.
The woman, sitting by the roadside, was so drunk she was dozing off.
A few men emerged from the bar across the street.
They spotted her.
The three men exchanged a look of mutual understanding, then quickened their pace and approached Natalie Morgan.
She had fair skin and a beautiful face, a slender waist, and a delicate figure. Dressed like a fairy, she made them gulp.
"Leave this one for me. It’s been a while since I’ve had a woman this beautiful," the skinny man said, rubbing his hands together with a lecherous look in his eyes.
The short man, unwilling to yield, retorted, "I saw her first. She’s mine this time. I won’t fight you for the next one."
"What’s there to fight about? There are three of us. We’ll go one by one. No one gets to keep her all to himself."
The three of them pushed and shoved until the big, burly one won out.
"Hey, little lady, it’s no good sitting out here. Look, you’re all wet. Big bro here will be heartbroken if you catch a cold." The fat man crouched in front of Natalie Morgan and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Let me take you somewhere nice."
The cold wind had sobered Natalie Morgan up quite a bit.
’The bar was right across the street. These men must be the kind who prey on drunk women around here.’
"No."
She staggered to her feet, ready to leave this place of trouble.
The men blocked her path. They weren’t about to let a piece of meat that had fallen right into their laps just fly away.
"Hey, little sis, we’re all good guys. Don’t be scared."
Natalie Morgan didn’t want to speak.
She walked to the curb and hailed a taxi.
The men grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "Don’t go, little sis. We’re not bad guys. Let’s find a place for another drink. It’s on us."
"Let me go."
Natalie Morgan didn’t have much strength.
But she still struggled with all her might.
But to the lecherous men, her resistance was like a kitten scratching an itch—completely ineffective.
"She’s getting feisty."
The men laughed.
They had seen too many girls like this.
Whether they resisted or not, the result was always the same.
And professional predators like them didn’t just violate the girls; sometimes they’d also swipe their phones and wallets.
When they woke up, they wouldn’t remember a thing about what happened that night.
They started dragging Natalie Morgan toward a nearby alley.
When she wouldn’t walk, they dragged her.
"Stop! Let her go."
A woman’s voice rang out.
Serena Sutton ran up to them, shoved the men aside, and pulled Natalie Morgan into her arms.
The men stroked their chins and laughed heartily. "Another broad! Boys, we’re gonna score big tonight."
Natalie Morgan was drunk.
But Serena Sutton wasn’t.
She took out her phone and dialed the police. "I’ve already called them. If you don’t want to get arrested, then scram."
The men, who had been about to advance, hesitated for a moment, then ran off, cursing.
Serena Sutton helped Natalie Morgan into her car.
Seeing her friend’s small, drunkenly flushed face, her heart ached. "Didn’t Felix Finch say you only had to play the piano at that themed restaurant, not drink with customers?"
Natalie Morgan gave a weak wave of her hand.
"Theodore Grant came to the restaurant today. It was his friends... ten thousand yuan a glass. So I drank."
Serena Sutton was furious.
’Ten thousand yuan a glass... So Theodore Grant basically let his friends force drinks on Natalie.’
’What kind of person was he?’
’Even if he didn’t love her anymore, Natalie was still officially Mrs. Grant.’ 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
’Did he have no regard for the Grant Family’s reputation?’
"He’s the one who dumped you here?"
Natalie Morgan pressed her lips together and nodded. She lifted her eyes to look at Serena Sutton. "How did you get here?"
Serena Sutton didn’t have much work today.
So she’d decided to pick Natalie up and get a late-night snack together.
’If she hadn’t come today, would Natalie have been... by those thugs?’
"What was Theodore Grant thinking, leaving you here? The Lowlight is right across the street! This area is crawling with lecherous predators. Is he out of his mind?"
Serena Sutton was so furious, she felt like she was about to have a stroke.
She handed Natalie Morgan a bottle of water. "Nattie, don’t you worry. I’ll find you the best lawyer there is to handle this divorce. He’s the one who cheated, he’s the one who had an affair. Why should you be the one to leave with nothing? We’re going to take back what’s yours."
Natalie Morgan didn’t care about any of that.
All she wanted was to leave Theodore Grant, to leave that house. That alone would be a release.
If she was free, her family would be free.
Without the connection of husband and wife, no matter how powerful he was, he couldn’t keep Thomas Morgan locked up in Unity Hospital forever.
"Claire, I’m transferring the money to you. Please use your connections to sort things out." Natalie Morgan sent all the money she had recently saved to Serena Sutton in one go. "At least make it so Thomas Morgan doesn’t have such a hard time in there."
Serena Sutton knew all too well how Natalie Morgan had earned that money.
How could she possibly bring herself to accept it?
"Don’t worry, I’m already looking for the right connections. Once I find a reliable person, I’ll make sure everything is taken care of. You don’t need to give me the money yet."
Serena Sutton turned back around, pulled out a cigarette, and placed it between her lips.
The slender cigarette’s glowing red tip flickered amid the curling smoke, illuminating her somber eyes.
Most of the time, Serena Sutton was powerless.
In Riverden, the Grant Family was not to be trifled with, and Theodore Grant was even less so.
Take the divorce case, for example. She had approached all the most famous lawyers in Riverden, but as soon as they heard it involved Theodore Grant, they all came up with excuses to refuse.
So, her only option was to look for renowned lawyers from abroad.
But that would require a lot of money.
Natalie Morgan didn’t have it, and her own funds were nowhere near enough.
...
Wanda Lynch sat quietly on the living room sofa.
Hearing the sound of Theodore Grant’s car, she ordered the housekeeper, "Mrs. Wallace, put the cooling patch on me."
She acted entirely like the mistress of the house.
If the housekeeper was even a second too slow, she would earn a glare from her.
"Mrs. Wallace, when Theodore gets back, you know what to say." Beneath her calm gaze hid an extreme, unhinged emotion.
The housekeeper knew better than to cross her and simply nodded without another word.
The moment Theodore Grant stepped inside, he saw Wanda Lynch looking haggard, propping herself up on the sofa and appearing listless.
He turned his head to the housekeeper. "How is she?"
"Miss Lynch, she..." The housekeeper didn’t want to lie, but she was only a servant. "...her fever has already broken."
Hearing Theodore Grant’s voice, Wanda Lynch weakly sat up. "You’re back."
"If you’re not feeling well, go to the hospital. You don’t have to wait for me to get back." His voice was flat as he reached out to feel the woman’s forehead. "Why aren’t you resting upstairs?"
"I wanted to wait for you." She gazed at him eagerly. "Theodore, when are we going abroad to treat my leg?"
"Dr. Stephen is on a business trip. Once they’re ready for you over there, I’ll go with you."
Wanda Lynch was very pleased with Theodore Grant’s attentiveness to the matter. She gazed at him affectionately. "Will you sit with me for a little while?"
She sat beside him, gently leaning her head on his arm.
Theodore Grant stood up abruptly. "I’m going to take a shower first."
