He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 70: Celebrate the Birthday and Then Go to Bed Together
"Claire, I booked the restaurant at the top of The Eye of Riverden. Let’s celebrate tonight, just the two of us." A faint smile touched Natalie Morgan’s lips.
Serena Sutton remembered it was Natalie Morgan’s birthday. "It’s your birthday, so we should absolutely celebrate."
"Then we’ll... see you tonight."
"Okay, see you tonight."
Serena Sutton had specially ordered a Barbie doll-themed birthday cake for Natalie Morgan—her absolute favorite.
The doll was gorgeous, dressed in a beautiful white gown with a sparkling little crown, and surrounded by colorful rainbow candies.
The top-floor restaurant of The Eye of Riverden was a place only the wealthy frequented.
Natalie Morgan had come here often when she was little, but she hadn’t been back since returning to the Morgan family.
Serena Sutton placed a birthday hat shaped like a crown on Natalie Morgan’s head and lit the candles. "Hurry, make a wish."
Natalie Morgan clasped her hands together and closed her eyes.
After making her wish, Natalie Morgan blew out the birthday candles. As she looked up, she saw a man not far away.
The man also seemed a little surprised and casually walked over. "What a coincidence. Is it your birthday today?"
Felix Finch had appeared out of nowhere.
Both Natalie Morgan and Serena Sutton were a little surprised.
"Dr. Finch, are you here for dinner?" Serena Sutton stood up, a faint smile on her face. "Today is Nattie’s birthday, so we’re celebrating."
Felix Finch’s gaze fell on Natalie Morgan’s face and paused for a moment. "I... I’ll just step out for a moment."
Felix Finch turned and walked away.
Serena Sutton blinked and looked at Natalie Morgan. "He... he’s gone?"
"He probably had something to do," Natalie Morgan said with a shrug.
Natalie Morgan loved the birthday cake Serena Sutton had bought.
Her eyes were sparkling with happiness.
"Claire, you’ve helped me so much." Natalie Morgan squeezed Serena Sutton’s hand gratefully. "I just made a wish about you."
"What did you wish for?" Serena Sutton was intrigued, a wide smile on her face. She teased, "You’d better not have wished for anything crazy. If it comes true, we could be in real trouble."
"Of course, I wished for your love life to blossom." Natalie Morgan knew she might never find happiness herself, and she wanted Serena Sutton to find someone who only had eyes for her. "I wished for you to find a good man you love and who loves you in return, to have a romance that never ends, and to live happily ever after. And then you can have a few little kids, and I can help you raise them."
"I’m not giving them to you! If you want to raise kids, have your own," Serena Sutton said, squeezing Natalie Morgan’s small, cold hand in return. "Nattie, it’s still possible for you to recover. Once you divorce Theodore Grant, I’ll find you the best doctors. I’m sure you can be cured."
Natalie Morgan had lost hope.
She had already lost her trust in men. After the divorce, she probably wouldn’t marry again.
Whether she could have children or not... it really didn’t matter anymore.
"Okay, let’s not talk about this." She took the knife, cut a slice of cake, and handed it to Serena Sutton. "Here, have some cake."
"Sure."
Serena Sutton had just taken a bite of cake when her phone rang.
She glanced at the screen, her expression tightening. She quickly silenced the call and slipped the phone into her pocket. "Nattie, I’m going to the restroom. I’ll hurry the kitchen along while I’m at it."
"Alright."
Serena Sutton had only just walked away.
When Felix Finch came rushing back, panting lightly.
"Senior?"
Small beads of sweat dotted Felix Finch’s forehead. He handed Natalie Morgan a beautifully wrapped square box. "A birthday present for you."
"You just... went to buy this?"
Felix Finch smiled and nodded. "Open it and see."
Natalie Morgan didn’t really want to accept it.
’If I accept this, I’ll have to get him a gift for his birthday in return.’
She really didn’t want to get caught up in these social obligations.
She pushed the box back towards Felix and said apologetically, "Senior, you really don’t have to."
"It’s not very expensive," he said.
"Really, Senior, I appreciate the thought." She was so conflicted that she even put her hands behind her back.
Felix Finch looked a little hurt, and the light in his eyes dimmed. "I picked the cheapest one so it wouldn’t be a burden to you. I don’t need you to give me anything in return. Can’t you even accept that?"
He looked rather pitiful.
It made Natalie Morgan feel extremely guilty.
’Am I being too cold and unreasonable?’
’It’s just a birthday present, after all.’
"Senior, please don’t be like this... I’ll... I’ll accept it. But please don’t give me anything next time."
She pulled the box back in front of her and looked up at Felix Finch, who was still standing. "Senior, please sit down."
The light returned to Felix Finch’s eyes. "Open it and see. I think all young women like this sort of thing."
’Young woman?’
’I’m not a young woman anymore.’
Natalie Morgan pressed her lips together slightly, then managed a smile. "Alright."
It was a music box.
It was made of crystal, completely transparent, with a figure of a little girl playing a guzheng inside. The music it played was also a famous guzheng melody.
It was truly an unexpected surprise.
Music boxes were easy to find, but one with a girl playing the guzheng was a rare find indeed.
"Do you like it?" His eyes shone with anticipation.
Natalie Morgan couldn’t deny it; she really did like it. "This must have been hard to find, right?"
"Not at all, it was quite easy to find," he said, afraid she might reject it.
"Thank you, Senior. I love your birthday present."
Natalie Morgan set down the music box, cut a slice of cake, and handed it to Felix Finch. "Senior, please have some cake."
"Thank you."
Just then, Theodore Grant strode into the restaurant.
His eyes immediately fell on Natalie Morgan and Felix Finch, sitting across from each other.
Natalie Morgan was holding out a piece of cake to Felix Finch, who was reaching for it with a look of pure delight.
He was very happy.
And a faint smile touched her lips as well.
In Theodore Grant’s eyes, the look Natalie Morgan gave Felix Finch was incredibly soft, almost as if she were flirting.
It was an eyesore, a punch to the gut, a dagger to the heart. The sight made his entire body ache with discomfort.
’Are they celebrating a birthday?’
"Mr. Grant, I think that’s Mrs. Grant." Weller Kendall, sharp-eyed, had recognized Natalie Morgan.
Theodore Grant’s expression darkened, and he let out a sneer. "Looks like they’re enjoying their cozy little life."
Weller Kendall knew better than to try and explain anything on Natalie Morgan’s behalf.
The scene before them would inevitably lead anyone to speculate.
"Weller, let’s go join the fun."
Theodore Grant strode ahead, and Weller Kendall hurried to catch up.
Theodore Grant’s sudden appearance caught both Natalie Morgan and Felix Finch completely off guard.
The man wore a rare smile, but to Natalie Morgan, it was merely the prelude to death by a thousand cuts.
"Is someone celebrating a birthday today?" He smiled, glancing first at Natalie Morgan, then at Felix Finch. "I remember Dr. Finch’s birthday is in the spring, so that must mean..."
His cold, sharp gaze fell upon Natalie Morgan’s face. "...my dear wife is celebrating her birthday today."
"Theodore, I just ran into Natalie by chance. Please don’t misunderstand," Felix Finch said, his expression tense as he tried to explain.
Theodore Grant’s gaze fell upon the beautiful cake.
The Barbie doll design was so beautiful one couldn’t look away.
"This cake looks pretty good."
He scooped up a bit of frosting with his finger, brought it to his lips, and licked it lightly. "Mm, it really is good."
He leaned in, bringing his thin lips close to Natalie Morgan’s ear. "You’re in high spirits, Mrs. Grant. Such a big occasion like your birthday, and you celebrate it with another man instead of your husband. Is your husband dead? Or are you planning to cap off the celebration by hopping into bed with him?"
