He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 75: Scandals Flying Everywhere
He smirked, his gaze contemptuous, as if he thought she couldn’t possibly make any waves. "We aren’t the only company here to see Elder Quincy today. If you can get him to sign the contract today, I’ll consider it."
No deal is ever closed in a single meeting.
Theodore Grant had no faith in her abilities.
In truth, she wasn’t confident either.
But for a million, she would give it her all.
The car pulled up and stopped before a courtyard with a uniquely designed building.
Theodore Grant got out of the car, took Natalie Morgan’s hand, and led her inside. Noelle Bell followed close behind.
Mrs. Quincy, who was welcoming guests at the door, spotted Natalie Morgan from a distance, and a flash of delight crossed her face.
"Natalie."
"Mrs. Quincy." Natalie Morgan let go of Theodore Grant’s hand and hurried over to embrace her. "I’ve missed you so much."
"My dear girl, it really is you." Mrs. Quincy raised a hand to caress Natalie Morgan’s delicate face, chiding her playfully, "You heartless girl, how long has it been since you last contacted me?"
"That’s not true, it’s just..." She started to explain, but with no solid excuse, she decided to charm her way out of it. "...I promise I’ll come see you often from now on, as long as you don’t get tired of me."
Only then did Mrs. Quincy nod in satisfaction.
Her gaze then shifted to Theodore Grant. "Mr. Grant, you came with Natalie. Are you two...?"
"Manager Morgan is one of our Grant Group’s key players. She’s in full charge of the auction house we’re planning to establish."
Theodore Grant was always adept at skillfully defining Natalie Morgan’s role.
He could distance himself from her in front of others...
...while also pushing her into this important position to pave the way for a smooth negotiation over the land.
He knew all too well how businessmen read the room and played their cards.
A chill ran through Natalie Morgan’s heart.
On the surface, this gathering was for everyone to view Master Quincy’s latest works.
But underneath, they all wanted to get their hands on his plot of land.
Ian Quincy had purchased the land thirty years ago. At the time, its location showed little promise for development.
But things were different now. In Riverden, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold, the plot’s location had caused its value to skyrocket thousands of times over.
Even so, potential buyers were constantly driving up the price with their offers.
Everyone mingled, clinking glasses and making toasts. By a tacit understanding, no one mentioned the land, wanting to leave a good impression on Ian Quincy.
Mrs. Quincy had Natalie Morgan sit down with her to chat.
She was very fond of this beautiful, well-behaved young woman. From the very first day Ian Quincy had brought her home, she’d felt Natalie was the one and only choice for her future daughter-in-law.
"Let me ask you, dear. Your relationship with Mr. Grant... is it just professional?"
From her experienced perspective, she felt there was something more between them.
Natalie Morgan smiled, her lashes dipping before slowly lifting again. "Mrs. Quincy, you must have heard about Theodore Grant’s reputation. Would you really want me to get involved with a scumbag like that?"
’That’s true.’
The tabloids were filled with gossip about Theodore Grant.
Even if it wasn’t all true, the fact that he paraded his mistress around everywhere wasn’t something a decent person would do.
"Well, since there’s nothing between you and Mr. Grant, how about you consider Byron?"
Byron Quincy was Ian Quincy’s son.
’Back in college, Mrs. Quincy had tried to set her up with Byron.’
’Byron was a great catch. He was five years her senior, gentle, and considerate, and he had pursued her for quite some time.’
’But back then, her heart had been full of Theodore Grant; she had no room for anyone else.’
’But now, in the wretched state she was in, how could she possibly ruin someone else’s life?’
"Mrs. Quincy, after all these years, you’re still trying to set me up with Byron? He might already have a girlfriend for all you know."
Natalie Morgan tried to laugh it off and change the subject.
Mrs. Quincy said in all seriousness, "He lives at home. How could he possibly have a girlfriend? I’m sure he doesn’t."
Natalie Morgan just smiled and didn’t respond.
「A short distance away.」
Noelle Bell and Theodore Grant’s eyes were both fixed on Natalie Morgan.
"Mr. Grant, do you think she can land the contract?"
Noelle Bell didn’t think Natalie Morgan had it in her.
A personal connection was one thing, but with such high stakes, friendship alone wouldn’t be enough to close the deal.
"She wants that million, so she’ll do everything in her power to make it happen."
Natalie Morgan had a stubborn streak.
He didn’t know what she needed the million for, but she seemed to need it urgently.
"But Mr. Grant, with so many competitors here today, are you sure she can do it?"
Of course he was.
Although Ian Quincy had bought the land years ago, he had already transferred the ownership to his son.
And his son, Byron Quincy, was once one of Natalie Morgan’s suitors.
The entire Quincy family adored Natalie Morgan.
’To make Natalie Morgan happy and help her hit her target, why wouldn’t they do it?’
Turning, Theodore Grant started to walk away, and Noelle Bell quickly hurried after him.
After Mrs. Quincy and Natalie Morgan chatted for a little while longer, she called her son over.
"Byron, you and Natalie haven’t seen each other in years. Why don’t you two catch up? I’m going to check on your father and make sure he doesn’t get carried away and drink too much."
Smiling, Mrs. Quincy guided her son to the seat next to Natalie Morgan.
Byron Quincy looked a bit helpless and embarrassed. "My mom, she’s just..."
"Byron, I just heard from your mother that the plot of land your father owned has been transferred to you. Is that true?" She was incredibly direct.
’He’d thought she would at least make some small talk.’
’Talk about the past, about the present.’
"You came here today for..."
"To be honest, the Grant Group is interested in buying this land." She took a deep breath and glanced at the other businesspeople eyeing the prize. "I know there’s no shortage of people who want this land, but the Grant Group can offer a higher price. Would you consider it?"
"You’re with the Grant Group now?" He understood then. Natalie Morgan wasn’t here today to reminisce; she was here purely for work. "So, you’re here on business?"
"You could say that." There was no need to hide or embellish her motives. "The Grant Group wants to build the largest auction house in Riverden, and your land is in the perfect location. So... will you consider it?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Byron Quincy didn’t answer right away.
His gaze fell upon Natalie Morgan’s delicate, beautiful face, and he gave a faint smile.
"Since the Grant Group is interested, we can discuss it."
"Great. You can tell me your ideal price. The Grant Group is very sincere. As long as you give us a chance, we definitely won’t disappoint you."
Byron Quincy found it impossible not to yield to Natalie Morgan.
’This,’ he thought, ’is probably the main reason the Grant Group sent her here.’
’A savvy businessman always weighs the pros and cons and does their homework.’
’And when it came to business, Theodore Grant only ever fought battles he was certain he would win.’
"Let’s exchange contact info, then." Byron Quincy took out his phone and pulled up his QR code.
Natalie Morgan scanned the code. "Byron, send me the price later, and I’ll talk to Mr. Grant. If he agrees, can we try to sign the contract within three days?"
"In such a hurry?"
"Not really." She realized she was being too hasty. After all, for a deal this big, it was only normal for him to take a few days to think it over. "Byron, you can take your time. There’s no rush."
