He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 94: This Must Be Kept an Absolute Secret, or We’ll Both Die
Theodore Grant no longer cared that Natalie Morgan’s blood was staining his car.
He practically floored the accelerator.
She was on the verge of shock.
After rushing her to the emergency room, he still couldn’t understand how she could be bleeding so much from her period.
Noelle Bell called Theodore Grant again to rush him. "Mr. Grant, when are you going to get here? Miss Lynch is in very bad shape."
Theodore Grant looked up at the light glowing above the emergency room door.
His voice was somber. "I’m on my way."
After hanging up, he lowered his head, his hand gripping the phone tightly.
A doctor came out of the emergency room with a form for him to sign. "The hemostatic injection isn’t working. We need to perform a D&C to stop the bleeding. We need a signature from the family."
"Is her life in danger?" he asked as he signed his name.
The doctor took the form. "Not at the moment."
"Mm."
After the doctor left, Theodore Grant called Weller Kendall, telling him to come and keep an eye on things. Then, he went to Wanda Lynch’s side.
By the time Theodore Grant arrived, Wanda Lynch had already been rushed into the emergency room.
Doctors and nurses bustled in and out, their faces grim.
"How is she?"
"Post-transplant complications led to cardiac arrest. The way things are going, she might even need a heart transplant," Noelle Bell said succinctly.
"Have they found a donor?"
Noelle Bell hesitated for a moment. "An organization overseas says they have a matching heart for Miss Lynch. They can provide it, but... it’s a little expensive."
"Money isn’t an issue. Make the arrangements."
"Of course, Mr. Grant."
The organ was airlifted overnight.
Wanda Lynch’s transplant surgery was a success.
She had been to death’s door and back.
"Miss Lynch, congratulations." Noelle Bell leaned close to the bed, a smug smile playing on her lips. "The surgery was a complete success. As for the organ, I did exactly as you instructed. I had it sent abroad first, then pretended to purchase it from over there. Mr. Grant didn’t suspect a thing."
Originally, Wanda Lynch had colluded with a doctor to abduct Yulia White.
After her organs were harvested, her heart and kidneys were put through a series of complex, expensive procedures and secretly shipped abroad.
The entire operation was possible thanks to Noelle Bell pulling strings.
Noelle Bell hadn’t wanted to get involved in something like this, but the money Wanda Lynch offered was too much to refuse.
Wanda had even promised her another three million once the job was done.
She could never earn that much in her entire life; how could she not take the risk?
"Secretary Bell, I couldn’t have done this without you. Don’t worry, the money will be transferred to your account as promised. Remember, this must be kept absolutely secret. Otherwise, we’re both dead."
Wanda Lynch was very weak.
She needed Noelle Bell to remain tight-lipped.
"Of course. I understand."
...
「In another hospital.」
Natalie Morgan woke up.
Weller Kendall quickly expressed his concern. "Mrs. Grant, how are you feeling?"
The world was spinning for Natalie Morgan.
The memory of feeling all the blood in her body rushing out filled her with a lingering, inexplicable fear.
"I’m okay." She forced her eyes open and looked up at the bag of blood slowly dripping above her. "Will this take a long time?"
"For a little while longer."
A wave of exhaustion washed over Natalie Morgan. Not wanting to speak anymore, she slowly closed her eyes again, letting the dizziness consume her.
Theodore Grant arrived in a hurry and called Weller Kendall outside.
"What did the doctor say?" he asked, his voice laced with an uncharacteristic urgency and concern.
"Mr. Grant, the doctor said that Mrs. Grant’s hemorrhage was caused by extreme stress. She needs to recuperate slowly, so you can’t rush her recovery. However, he did mention that having a child soon might help her condition."
’Having a baby again.’
’If we could have one, we would have had one by now.’
He felt a surge of inexplicable irritation. "Does she look like she’s in any condition to have a baby?"
"Well..." Weller was at a loss for words.
Theodore Grant seemed to be fuming. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
He left after only a few minutes.
Natalie Morgan stayed in the hospital alone for seven days. During that time, the housekeeper would come regularly to bring her meals.
On the day of her discharge, she received an invitation from Byron Quincy to see Ian Quincy’s art exhibition.
Although her former teacher held an exhibition every year, she rarely had the chance to attend.
She left the hospital and took a taxi to the exhibition by herself.
A large crowd had gathered, drawn by the artist’s reputation.
Byron Quincy was waiting for her at the entrance.
"Natalie."
He walked over quickly to greet her. Noticing how pale she looked, his mind drifted to the recent scandal involving her and Felix Finch.
It was only from seeing that gossip that he’d learned she and Theodore Grant were already married.
"What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
"I’m fine." She didn’t want Byron Quincy to focus on her. "Byron, if you’re busy, please don’t let me keep you. I’m happy to look around on my own."
"Alright. I need to go greet some of my father’s old friends, but I’ll come find you later."
"Okay," she said, offering a gentle smile.
Ian Quincy’s paintings blended realism and abstraction.
She had admired him greatly back in school, and now, his talent seemed even more unattainable.
She studied the paintings one by one.
She stopped in front of a portrait.
It depicted a young girl, sketchbook in hand, absorbed in her drawing.
Its title was *Remembrance*.
A white sun shirt, a white baseball cap, and a high ponytail.
It looked so familiar.
As if it overlapped with a memory of her own.
Byron Quincy noticed Natalie Morgan lingering in front of the painting and said a few words to his assistant.
"Theodore, look at this painting. It’s so beautiful! I love it."
Hearing the voice, Natalie Morgan turned her head to look.
Theodore Grant was standing not far from her, pushing Wanda Lynch in her wheelchair.
She gazed coolly at the man and woman before her.
Her husband, who refused to divorce her, yet always saved his tenderness and patience for someone else.
In the past, she might have gotten angry, might have felt jealous.
But with the love gone, her heart couldn’t stir even a single ripple of emotion.
Natalie Morgan turned to look at another painting.
Wanda Lynch noticed Theodore Grant’s gaze following Natalie Morgan and gently tugged on his sleeve. "Theodore, I’m not feeling well. Can you take me home?"
Theodore Grant said nothing, simply turning the wheelchair to take her away.
Ten minutes later, he returned to the exhibition.
He found one of the gallery’s sales staff and pointed to the painting titled *Remembrance*. "I’ll take this painting."
"I’m sorry, sir. Our Mr. Quincy has already taken that painting off the market."
’Taken off the market?’
’Does that mean it’s not for sale, or that it’s already been sold?’
Just then, Byron Quincy’s assistant approached Natalie Morgan, holding a wrapped painting. "Miss Morgan, this is a gift from Mr. Quincy. He insists that you accept it."
"A painting?" Natalie Morgan was confused.
The assistant smiled and explained, "It’s the one titled *Remembrance*."
Natalie Morgan understood. Byron Quincy must have seen how much she liked the painting.
"Please thank Mr. Quincy for me, but I insist on paying for it."
"Mr. Quincy said that if you were to pay, the painting would lose its meaning."
"Alright, then."
Just as Natalie Morgan reached for the painting, it was snatched away. "It seems this painting hasn’t been sold after all. I’ll take it."
Natalie Morgan didn’t understand why Theodore Grant was suddenly trying to buy this painting.
’Is it because Wanda Lynch likes it?’
"I’m sorry, but our Mr. Quincy has already gifted this painting to Miss Morgan," the assistant said politely.
Theodore Grant was unfazed. He turned to look at Natalie Morgan. "This painting holds special meaning for someone else. I hope you won’t take what another person loves."
