Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Rebellious

"That’s nonsense! I’m not!"

The words tumbled out of his mouth, and he reacted like a cat whose tail had just been stepped on.

Lu Xiao’s smile widened. "If you say so. What are you getting so worked up about? I didn’t get angry even after what you said to me, so what are you so upset about? The reason you won’t tell me your name... is it because it’s ugly and you don’t want people to say it?"

"Of course not!" The reflexive denial robbed the Beastman of his earlier bluster, leaving him looking a little flustered. "My name is Kenwayt. I’m a Lieutenant. I was diagnosed as S-Class not long after I enlisted."

His voice trailed off toward the end.

"That’s very impressive. You’re only nineteen and already a Lieutenant. With time, you’re bound to have a great career."

Kenwayt, who had been bracing himself for Lu Xiao’s ridicule, jerked his head up to look at her, only to see the young female’s face was still graced with a smile.

He tore his gaze away as if he’d been burned, but his cheeks flushed red. "Even if you say that, I’m not going to thank you."

"You don’t have to. You can keep your opinion of me, but that won’t interfere with your treatment."

Kenwayt didn’t understand this female. ’What’s with her? Does she have no temper? Why can she tolerate my disrespect without calling the officer outside to punish me?’

"How has your sleep been lately? Is the medication helping..."

She asked Kenwayt the same questions she had asked Kels. By asking different patients the same questions, she could identify similarities in their responses.

For instance, that S-Class males suffered from severe sleep disorders.

As expected, Kenwayt’s answers fell within Lu Xiao’s predictions. In fact, his problem was even more severe than Kels’s; the medication had completely lost its effect on him.

He was young, had lower stress tolerance, and was more prone to anxiety. The more anxious he became, the worse his condition grew—a classic vicious cycle.

’If Kenwayt were left untreated,’ Lu Xiao thought, ’he’ll have reached the Early Intermediate stage by our next meeting.’

"Alright, close your eyes and relax." Lu Xiao changed her gloves and walked toward Kenwayt, but he watched her warily, as if she were some kind of monster. "What are you going to do?"

Lu Xiao smiled at him as if he were a mischievous child. "If I were going to do something to you, I would’ve had the escorting officer put that helmet on you. I imagine you’d be much more obedient then. Now, shut up!"

The moment she finished speaking, Lu Xiao pressed her palm to his forehead. Her purification power plunged directly into Kenwayt’s Spirit Sea. Just as she had expected, his condition was much worse than Kels’s and almost as bad as Claude’s.

Thirty minutes later, Lu Xiao withdrew her purification power. Unsurprisingly, Kenwayt was fast asleep.

’Seems no matter how tough they talk, they all quiet down for me in the end.’

After filing Kenwayt’s information, Lu Xiao glanced at the time. Twenty minutes later, Kenwayt slowly began to stir.

"Awake? How do you feel? If everything’s alright, you’re free to go. The treatment for today is finished."

Kenwayt had just come to his senses when he heard her words. His eyes widened in surprise. "I... I was asleep?"

"Of course. I can tell the difference between being asleep and being unconscious." Lu Xiao then turned and called for the officer outside to come and escort him out.

Lu Xiao, for her part, began to pack up, ready to head home for the day.

Just as she gathered her things to leave, Kenwayt suddenly spoke up. "W-wait. Can I... can I request an appointment at your clinic again next time?"

Lu Xiao chuckled and turned to look at the now-bashful Beastman. "Of course. Just remember to request the clinic of Healer Lu—ask for Lu Xiao. Goodbye."

With that, Lu Xiao turned and left.

Kenwayt let out a sigh of relief at her words, unable to stop the corners of his mouth from curling into a smile.

This earned him a sideways glance from his escorting officer. "What the hell is going on? Kels came out crying, but you’re smiling. What exactly happened to you two in there?"

’That young female looks so pretty and delicate. Is she really that amazing?’

"I experienced a wonderful dream," Kenwayt said with a grin, clearly in an exceptionally good mood.

When he got back to the transport vehicle, he saw the big guy, Kels. "Hey, man. Did Healer Lu tell you to book an appointment with her for next week, too?"

Kels, who had been resting with his eyes closed, opened them. "She told you to make one, too?"

"Yeah. She’s the most incredible therapist I’ve ever met. I actually fell asleep just now. Oh my god, I can’t even believe it."

"Me too. It was like a dream. No, I wouldn’t even dare to dream I could get a good night’s sleep again. Did she make a deal with you, too?"

"A deal? What deal?" Kenwayt’s heart skipped a beat as he immediately pressed for more.

Seeing his reaction, Kels knew Lu Xiao hadn’t made a deal with Kenwayt. It was something special, just for him. He immediately clamped his mouth shut.

But Kenwayt grew anxious. "Why’d you stop talking? Tell me! What deal?"

"You shouldn’t get so worked up. Healer Lu didn’t mention it to you, so my treatment plan is probably just different from yours. We should trust Healer Lu." Seeing Kenwayt getting agitated, Kels quickly added, "Just calm down. Don’t let all of Healer Lu’s hard work today go to waste."

Kenwayt stared at Kels for a long moment before finally looking away.

Kels breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that he was willing to listen.

The nap he’d just had in the clinic had left him in high spirits, and he didn’t want to squander that feeling on an emotional outburst.

Kenwayt surely felt the same. They both knew all too well how precious a good night’s sleep was for them.

"So, uh, is Healer Lu really that good?" the escorting officer sitting beside them asked tentatively. This was, in fact, a breach of protocol.

During an escort, they weren’t allowed to chat with the patients, but he just couldn’t resist. He was willing to risk a reprimand—he had to know! 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Kels froze, hesitating to answer, but Kenwayt let out a strange, mocking laugh.

The escorting officer shot him a look but, for once, said nothing. Instead, he turned back to Kels. "You said you both fell asleep during your treatment. Is that true?"

"Yeah. Healer Lu performed Spiritual Soothing on us."

"Spiritual Soothing?" the escorting officer asked, his voice cracking. "But don’t females hate performing Spiritual Soothing? It puts a huge strain on them, yet Healer Lu treated two patients in a row?"

’My god, what kind of angel is she?!’

"Now I remember. On the way back with Claude last time, he said he was going to book an appointment with Healer Lu for the following week. It seems he told quite a few people after he got back. You guys didn’t hear about it?"

"Claude is probably in a different district, so they wouldn’t have heard."

But they all knew in their hearts that once Kels and Kenwayt returned, Healer Lu’s name would spread throughout the entire special administrative region.
