Heart Over Sword-Chapter 331: Farewells (3)
Chapter 331: Farewells (3)
Before the end of the night, one more appearance added to Evanna’s emotional evening. Her head was resting on Arawn’s lap, where he stroked the top of her head when they both felt the sudden presence of another being on their balcony. Without moving, both of them used their powers; icicles hovered in front of the door, and vines were already crawling up the balcony, waiting to sneak up on the intruder.
"Well, isn’t this a lovely welcome?" The charming voice of a certain vampire made the pair release their breath, and their gifts disperse.
Killian opened the doors, eyebrows raised at discovering Evanna in her nightwear. Fortunately, she wore a silky robe over the top, and Arawn was shirtless, revealing the fine lines and contour of his abs and chest, long locks straight and perfect like usual, shoeless. While Arawn was reading a book, Evanna happily gawked at the man she had married. Until the vampire arrived, she had been planning to seduce Arawn away from his book.
It was either she crawled on top of him and threw the book to the side, or she opened her robe to reveal the short, silky night dress beneath, revealing far too much of her breasts already. Of course, this was not an option now. Killian couldn’t help the smirk tugging on his lips at the typical newlywed lovebirds. While Evanna thought she was being sneaky and planning to seduce Arawn, his blood was already heating, and he was about to pounce on her before his arrival.
"Is there a reason you are interrupting our evening?" Arawn tsked, annoyed that his time with his wife was being interrupted.
"I have travelled far, you know," Killian sighed dramatically, flopping down beside Arawn and playing with his hair with a mischievous grin. Evanna didn’t know when this relationship transpired, but somehow, the vampire’s ways, even annoying or charming, worked on her husband, too. He didn’t mind Killian’s ridiculous ways.
"You did," Evanna answered, sitting up from her position after noting the lightness in Killian’s eyes now. He looked more than happy.
"Arawn, you must tell me..." Killian tilted his head to the side, still playing with the end of his hair. "What do you do to keep your hair so perfect all the time? Mine likes to curl, you see..."
"You really want to know?" Arawn questioned, gesturing with his finger to come closer as though what he was about to tell him was a secret.
Evanna looked between the pair, amused, as a snowball splattered onto Killian’s shoulder. It was aimed at his face, but the vampire moved swiftly.
"Alright, I get the point! You don’t want anyone else having the same luscious locks as you!"
"Should I leave you two to it or..." Evanna trailed off as she rose and went to the side, pouring herself a small glass of elven wine.
Killian cleared his throat, wiping off the snow from his arm as he approached his Queen. "No, I came to see you both. I heard you had issues with the Faceless."
"How suspicious of you to arrive after all of the fighting," Arawn said in a disinterested tone, though it was more of a comment than actual suspicion as he continued to read the book in his lap.
Evanna sighed, looking at her husband and how perfect he looked right then. Killian walked into her line of sight, though, and she focused on her friend. "All of the Faceless died suddenly. We looked into it a bit, but it was obviously done by magic. I am thinking of sending someone to look into witches or the fae. But it doesn’t sound as though the fae would care about the Faceless..."
"Magic..." Killian trailed off. "If dark witches were the cause... I doubt there are many left."
He killed a few others just for the fun of it. They weren’t great people anyway. Their existence only disturbed the environment and whatever weird stuff they did. He was pretty sure they actually did eat children or something. He might suck the blood out of people, but at least he had some morals.
Evanna passed over a glass to the vampire. "You got your revenge then?" She didn’t expect him to return so quickly or return at all.
"Yes." Killian sipped his wine. "I thought I would check in on you two after some disturbances with some officials that died. It might be connected to the Faceless and the witches I killed..."
Arawn looked up from his book then. "The witches... You might be the reason all of the Faceless are dead..."
Killian shrugged and finished his wine. "If I was the reason, then you’re welcome." It was clear he didn’t care.
"What will you do now?" Evanna asked, wondering about her vampire friend. She knew this was going to be another goodbye.
"I am going to claim my land back. Maybe rebuild what I once had." Killian looked at his cufflinks as though they were more important than the concept of taking back what was once his. Evanna knew it was more important to him than how he was downplaying it.
"You are going to be busy. It is said werewolves own the land now."
Killian wrinkled his nose. "I don’t want a place brimming with fleas. I’ll look elsewhere..."
"This is your second chance. Don’t screw it up."
"Yes, my Queen." Killian smiled, revealing his fangs before grabbing her hand and leaving a soft kiss.
The moment his lips were on her knuckles, Arawn was beside them, tugging Evanna back against his bare chest. "You better get a move on then."
Killian smirked at the prince’s obvious possessiveness. "Stay safe, Killian," Evanna smiled softly. The vampire bowed his head and disappeared in a second. The sheer curtains flung to the side from the wind of the vampire’s speed.
Arawn led Evanna to the bed the moment he was gone, creating an icy wall around the balcony and doors so nobody else would interrupt them. Once she lay down, Arawn pulled the robe open, eyes devouring every inch of his beautiful wife before she tugged at his waistband and met his lips.
