Heiress' Househusband is a Secret Billionaire-Chapter 346: My Sweetheart is Cold, Tired and Hungry
Chapter 346: My Sweetheart is Cold, Tired and Hungry
Another week came. Like the past one, Lariette stayed past the school hours. She wasn’t the only one because most of her colleagues were just the same.
The amber and orange hues of approaching dusk had already painted the skyline even though the clock had yet to strike half past four. The bare trees shivered as the breeze blew by, most of their leaves already fallen and scattered across the damp courtyard.
The smell of rain hung faintly in the air. At this hour, most of the classrooms had grown quieter, save for the occasional chatters and footsteps echoing through the long hallways.
Lariette stayed in the language faculty room instead of the teachers’ lounge, seated at the round table with six students. The young ones hunched over their notebooks.
The students were from the eighth grade. They approached Lariette yesterday and asked for some private tutoring after school. She decided to do it today.
Lariette leaned in toward one boy who frowned at his paper. Smiling, she tapped it lightly with her pen, "Your opening sentence is strong, but you can’t drop the argument halfway."
The boy hesitated, then listened as the language teacher gave more tips. Then, he revised what he had written so far before coming up with more questions. The others did the same.
By the time the students packed up, the clock on the wall read ten minutes past five.
"Thank you, Miss Elsher."
"See you tomorrow."
"Bye bye."
The three students thanked Lariette, then left with quiet faces. She returned their greeting before gathering her things. As she stepped out of the faculty room, she texted Ruediger.
[Lariette: Just done, so tired and hungry🥺]
[Lariette: Gonna get my things from staffroom first]
The man’s replies came in an instant as if the phone was glued to his hand. His responses made her laugh.
[Ruediger: Oh no! I can’t let my baby go hungry😨]
[Ruediger: We have yummies at home, gonna pick you up now😘 Will wait for you at the gate]
Exhaling a soft sigh, Lariette walked toward the teachers’ lounge. She shuddered from the cold. The building felt cooler now and her cardigan wasn’t thick enough to ward off the chill that came from the older windows.
The familiar murmur of voices greeted Lariette once she entered the teachers’ lounge. The room smelled faintly of coffee, toner and leftover pastries.
Several teachers were still scattered across the space, some marking and some chatting, all were busy. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Lariette saw a few others near the pantry area. Standing before her desk, she put more items inside her bag.
"Ah, Lari," Phoebe waved her hand, still cheery despite the exhausted lines on her face, "Going home now?"
"Yes. I’m so hungry," Lariette laughed in helplessness, "Not going home yet?"
"Just a bit more. It’s only Tuesday, but I can’t wait for the weekend already," Phoebe groaned before quickly adding, "No! I just want the winter break to come now."
Amused, Lariette reminded, "Sadly, we still have many things to do before that. By the way, what are they talking about? Everyone looks so excited."
Upon hearing the second half of Lariette’s words, Phoebe glanced at the pantry area. The latter laughed softly.
"Ah, they’re talking about Mr. Eastwood. Heard he’s looking for another place to move to. He asked around if anyone knew of any good places."
"Oh?" Lariette raised her brows, "Doesn’t he live nearby?"
"Maybe he has annoying neighbors. Who knows?" Phoebe shrugged, "Benjamin’s excited to help. His uncle is a real estate agent here. He’ll introduce those two soon."
Lariette asked nothing further. The quiet Mr. Eastwood was quite a mysterious figure to everyone here. She knew some teachers had a tendency to gossip about him.
"I’ll go back now. See you tomorrow, Phoebe."
"Bye, Lari!"
Shouldering a backpack and a sling bag, Lariette left the teachers’ lounge. The sky grew darker outside. Some students headed to the gates, either by themselves or being picked up by their parents.
Lariette grinned once she saw Ruediger’s truck waiting outside the gates, and also him. He did say he wouldn’t come on foot like usual because of the weather forecast, stating it might rain in the evening.
Quickening her steps, Lariette rushed to Ruediger who opened his arms wide. They laughed when she jumped into his arms, sharing a hug.
For a moment, Lariette forgot she was still in the school area. Fortunately, everyone was too tired and it was quite dark despite the streetlights.
"My sweetheart is cold, tired and hungry," Ruediger chuckled, his breath slightly foggy, "Let’s go home. I’ve cooked a yummy feast for you."
"Yay~ I can’t wait! Thank you, Eddy~"
The pair got inside the truck. Then, he pulled away from the school area, joining the crowded traffic on the major roads.
As he drove, Ruediger listened to Lariette talking about her activities today. He occasionally chuckled when she mentioned her students’ funny antics.
"Gonna wash up first, or later?" asked Ruediger once they entered the apartment. Closing the door behind him, he stared at Lariette ahead.
"After dinner," Lariette groaned, "I only think of food now."
Smiling, Ruediger took two large strides before reaching Lariette. She was stretching her arms while walking down the hallway.
"Sit in the living room first," Ruediger held both of Lariette’s shoulders, pushing her in a direction, "I’ll bring the food out."
"Ah, I can help," Lariette glanced behind, looking at Ruediger, "Let me wash my hands and face. I’m not that tired."
"Just consider me pampering you."
Lariette could only laugh in helplessness. Ruediger pushed her until she reached the couch, then he rushed into the kitchen, only to come out with a glass of warm water.
"For you, Madam," said Ruediger teasingly.
"Ahem, thank you, my dear butler."
Lariette chuckled while taking the glass. Ruediger didn’t stay longer as he immediately returned to the kitchen. As she watched the back of the busy man, she smiled sweetly.
It seemed like they could have another quiet and relaxing night after dinner soon.
Or so she thought.
Never did Lariette expect to receive a call from a frantic and crying Madeline.
