Lucinda held onto the edge of the table tightly, her arms trembling in anger, and she glared pointedly at her son who seemed relaxed and unfazed.

Towards Noah, her son and first child, her feelings were complicated. While she held no love for him unlike her precious daughter who she cherished like a pearl in her palm, her heart still leaned towards him because he was her son.

Her buried motherly instincts still kicked in within her at his presence.

Especially now that he was alive and healthy.

At the same time, she could not accept how he undoubtedly treated and sided with those children like his family, acting like he had no family of his own.

’’Noah, I understand that you hate us but we’re still your family.’’ Tears brimmed around her eyes once more. ’’I’m your mother! How could you curse and treat me like this?!’’

The sight of them could make one feel pity for her.

But....Noah, her son was different. He remained unfazed and did not once shifted from his seat. His eyes and face were calm, void of his actual feelings. Just like that past memory of their last meeting, but much calmer.

’’Why don’t you get on with the goal of this meeting, Eldest madam?’’ He dimissed her tears as nothing important.

’Ha...’ Lucinda’s eyes flashed slightly in realization as she almost tumbled on her feet. ’Mark, our son has gone too far to care about us.’

She and Noah held gaze for a moment before she sat back and let go of the table.

Her nose sniffled lightly and she dried her tears with her fingers. ’Even if one of us gets to die tomorrow, I’m sure he wouldn’t bother to show up at the funeral.’

The gap between their son, and them as his parents had gone too wide to narrow by mere words. When he needed them most, they were not there to support him. Rather, it was the children of her late brother-in-law.

They had filled in hole as a family for him.

Actually, she had always known that they couldn’t reconcile with the amount of years gone by between them. However, her husband had insisted of meeting with him, and she couldn’t help but have hope that the outcome might be different from her expectations.

Sadly, it wasn’t.

The reality was far worse than her expectations.

’’Your father wanted to know if you work in a company called N.K.’’ She revealed softly, lowering her gaze in shame.

At the moment, she just wanted to run away from those mocking calm eyes like the past. It was very humiliating to experiencing those eyes, but she had to fulfill the purpose of this meeting.

She didn’t know when, but one of her husband’s acquaintances seemed to have seen Noah with the secretary of the N.K company’s CEO. Then, she had assumed the person must have mistaken someone as Noah.

Noah had always sickly in a wheelchair, and he had no tertiary education. Besides the illness, there’s no way someone could work in a popular company like the N.K with just a high school education.

However, her son had been the former President of the Kingston corporation. Thanks to him, she recalled that memory. His reign as president had been smooth-sailing different from what she had expected from someone with no tertiary education and sickly.

Her husband had also been expected the same, but who could have guessed that their Noah had a knack for business?

He was the perfect son and child that she and her husband had wished for to compete for the Kingston family business.

There was a moment of silence before a soft chuckle sounded between them. ’’What was I expecting from the both of you anyway? Just like last time, you definitely have your intentions of meeting the son you had abandoned.’’

’’...’’ Lucinda remained silence to the mockery. Now, she understood the reason. Noah had long given up on them just like they had done to him.

She and her husband had never paid much attention to him, thus they had never known him as a person. They only knew him as their first child and son when they desired something from him.

’’Is there a reason that I should answer the Eldest master’s curiosity?" Noah asked in return. ’’If I am working at the N.K company, then what of it?’’

Lucinda kept quiet for a moment before replying. ’’I think your father has a business proposal for the CEO.’’ She said, softly. ’’Lately, I’m not so sure of what your father does on his own anymore.’’

She bit inside of her cheeks, feeling more humiliated.

As a wife, she did not even have an actual idea of her husband’s actions anymore. It was different from the past when he had often confided in her.

Back when the love has been somewhat sweet between them.

Her husband might be a managing director of the Kingston entertainment company, but Lucinda definitely knew that he had some works outside of that scope.

Especially with his goals of becoming the President of the Kingston corporation one day.

She wouldn’t be surprised if her husband was involved in something illegal and on the other side of the law, but she couldn’t say this to her son.

Noah felt the vibration from his chest pocket and took out his phone that indicated someone’s phone call. Lucinda watched as he answered the call amid their conversation and suddenly furrowed his eyebrow with a frown.

’’What? A scandal?’’

She didn’t know what the other person told him, but she met his knowing glance that suddenly gave her a bad feeling.

’’Yes, deal with it.’’

’’Hm. Thank you.’’ He ended the call right after that, and checked his phone, probably for something connected to the call.

’’Your daughter just couldn’t wait that long, huh.’’ Lucinda sensed the mockery from him about her daughter, and her heart skipped a beat at his words.

Had Arabella had done something?

Lucinda did not bother with the mocking words from him. Rather, she inwardly pieced the words from her son during his call, and then his sudden mocking words of her daughter. Her face paled slightly as a realization dawned on her.

It didn’t take a genius to guess that her daughter must have done something on social media without her knowledge again.

Arabella couldn’t have done something on social media, right? Especially when she had been warned to focus on her career only.

Unfortunately for Lucinda, Noah turned his phone over to her and showed an article that was trending on social media.

Noah took his phone back and returned the device to his pocket. ’’Who else could have done this if not her? I had assumed she decided to take her career as a top actress quite seriously, since she’s been quiet all these years.’’

’’Now, it appeared that she was only bidding her time to reach a certain height before doing another nonsense.’’ He added. ’’It seems fame has gotten to your daughter’s head, that she doesn’t truly understand the identity of the person she’s offending.’’

Lucinda suddenly felt a shiver down her spine.

Indeed, no matter how she wanted to deny it, her late sister-in-law’s daughter had become someone she and her husband could not afford to touch or offend anyhow. That was the reason her husband had warned herself and Arabella not to do anything against that girl.

Yet, her daughter seemed to have turned deaf ears to his warnings.

’’I guess you have something more important to focus on, Eldest madam.’’ Noah placed his elbow on the table and rested his chin on his clasped hands with curved lips. ’’You can go ahead and deal with your daughter. Ayana isn’t one to take these scandals to heart, but that doesn’t mean the people around her are the same.’’ His gaze sharpened with unsaid warnings.

Lucinda unconsciously gulped and released a shaky breath. ’’E-Excuse me....’’

She packed her purse along with her jacket and left their table in hasty steps.

Noah trailed after her back until she went out of the VIP room and wasn’t in his sight no more.

’Their shamelessness is still the same....’ He let out a small sigh, and relaxed on the seat with some thoughts.

One of them was the scandal that broke on social media.

And the other was what his mother said to him earlier.

His father somehow found out that he was connected to the N.K company. Though it seemed the man wasn’t aware that he was the CEO.

Before exposing himself to the public, Noah had never made it known that he was a CEO. Sure, his company had grown tremendously over the years that his name as a CEO was listed as one of the new billionaires in the world. However, that did not change that his identity had been a mystery.

Only a few people had known that he was a CEO and he had quite loved the non-existent attention in his life.
