Help! I Became A Guy In A BL Novel!-Chapter 233: My Mother
Chapter 233: My Mother
The sun was beginning its descent, casting golden hues across the sky as Riven returned home. His time with Raphael had been rejuvenating, filled with laughter and reminiscing. He felt lighter, he didn’t even flirt at all! This had been a first for him. He simply enjoyed the company of a true friend.
Entering the manor, Riven expected a flurry of activity or perhaps a concerned Ronan waiting by the door. Instead, the atmosphere was calm, almost serene. He found Ronan in the study, engrossed in a book.
"You’re back," Ronan said, looking up with a gentle smile.
Riven approached, noting the absence of tension he had anticipated. "I thought you’d be worried," he admitted.
Ronan closed the book, placing it on the table. "I was a bit saddened not to find you beside me when I woke, but I understand. This is what I’ve worked for—to ensure you have the freedom to come and go without fear."
Riven’s heart swelled with affection. "Thank you," he whispered, leaning in on his tiptoes to kiss Ronan’s forehead.
Their moment was interrupted by the sudden sound of the main doors crashing open. Footsteps echoed through the hallway, approaching rapidly.
"Where is he?" A voice demanded, sharp and commanding.
Riven could never have a quiet day, this was the bed he made and now he had to lie in it.
Riven and Ronan turned as Soren stormed into the room. His ebony eyes were filled with a rage that could cause anyone to shiver.
His eyes were wild, scanning the space until they landed on Riven.
"Soren," Ronan said, standing protectively in front of Riven. "This is unexpected."
Soren’s gaze didn’t waver. "I’m here for Riven."
Ronan’s stance remained firm. "There’s still a day left in the agreed week."
Soren scoffed. "Agreements can change."
The moment he read the letter that Ronan sent, he could barely contain his rage. He was going to spend an extra week there? No. Never. He would not agree to it. The fact that he had to share his little wolf with someone else was already enough, now they’re changing the agreement as they wish? Hah. Did they think he would take this lying down?
Riven stepped forward, placing a hand on Ronan’s arm. "It’s okay," he said softly.
Ronan looked at him, concern evident in his eyes. He did not know how to feel when Riven stepped in front of him. But he could not argue. He agreed to the arrangement, so now he had to watch his mate be with another man. He was trying his best to be the good guy here and not be pushy. But it felt so hard to keep his temper.
Riven nodded. "Let me talk to him."
Reluctantly, Ronan stepped aside, allowing Riven to approach Soren. The two stood face to face, tension thick in the air.
"Soren, let’s talk in that room and not here..." Riven eyes the servants that had gathered and the guards that failed to stop Soren.
Soren took a deep breath.
Soren pulled Riven by the hand, dragging him into the dimly lit room. The air felt thick with unspoken words and emotions that crackled like static. "What do you mean you want to stay here another week?" Soren’s voice was low, edged with frustration. "Didn’t you say that you liked me? That you loved me? That’s why I’m here. I’m here to drag you back."
As he spoke, Soren’s grip on Riven’s hand loosened, shifting to the back of Riven’s neck. His fingers glided down to the base of his back, brushing against the soft fur of Riven’s wolf tail, before his hand firmly grasped it. The intimate gesture sent a shiver down Riven’s spine, he was scary but also hot!
Leaning in closer, Soren’s breath ghosted over Riven’s skin as he whispered into the nape of his neck, "Do you refuse?" The look in Soren’s eyes was dangerous, a storm brewing beneath the surface. One wrong move, and Riven could tell that this man would drag him back, chain him and put him in a cage... No, not metaphorically.
Riven sighed, the weight of the moment pressing heavily on him. He needed to placate Soren, and telling him that he had been flirting with another man this entire week would not be the way to go.
"Soren, I did not stay with Ronan the whole week! I was away... finding out clues about my mother’s identity. No one knows about her, and no one tells me anything. I’ve been out there doing some investigating." His voice wavered slightly, but he steadied himself. "Yesterday, I had to rush back because I was sick... Sick from being away from my mate. I need a week to stabilise my condition."
You cannot be mad at a guy for looking for his mother!
Soren’s gaze bore into Riven, searching for the truth beneath his words. But Riven was a seasoned liar, a master in the art of masking his true intentions. All Soren saw was the flicker of sadness in Riven’s eyes, the way his shoulders slumped ever so slightly as he spoke.
"Riven..." Soren’s voice softened, but his voice switched into something threatening again, "Why did you hide this from me? And why did you go looking for clues alone? Is that Alpha that useless?"
Well, that was a fair question. Riven gulped.
"I did not want to trouble anyone. Even Ronan does not know about it. I only told him that I needed to do something, something that I could not tell him. You’re actually the first person I told." Riven looked at Soren, trying to figure out what this man was thinking. And thankfully, the moment he mentioned even Ronan did not know, he felt better.
Riven was glad he did not make any wrong moves, "And the reason why I did not ask for help... Or tell anyone is because I felt like this is something I should do. It’s MY mother! Anyway... I still need to talk to my father, he is in the dungeon."
