Help! I Became A Guy In A BL Novel!-Chapter 261: Oh- Oh... No...
Chapter 261: Oh- Oh... No...
Leon’s jaw clenched when he saw his sister raise her sword in his direction. All at once, the battlefield fell eerily silent. The clash of steel ceased, footsteps paused mid-stride, and every warrior, lion, leopard, and wolf alike—froze in place.
On Soren’s side, snow leopard and wolf fighters exhaled in unison, visibly relieved. They recognised the banner at Ronan’s back—soldiers they’d not expected. With new reinforcements, their dwindling numbers were no longer hopeless. The tide of war had turned in a heartbeat.
On Leon’s side, uncertainty flooded through his ranks. They clustered, whispering among themselves, glancing at the reinforcements and, most importantly, at his sister, Catalina of the Aurum Sword. She stood with unwavering poise, sword pointed in testament, her every movement radiating the quiet assurance of a warrior queen.
They knew her reputation. In teenage duels, she had easily outmatched her tutors. During the last royal tournament, she disarmed eight knights in as many minutes. Beneath that white-and-gold gown, she wore light armour—renowned craftsmanship that glinted as she shifted weight. Her long golden hair whipped against her robes, and her eyes, cerulean and stern, fixed on Leon.
Leon’s throat went dry. Whenever Catalina had confronted him before their father’s death, in court, at a public ceremony, even in whispered council meetings, he had found himself hurt, but due to his pride, he dismissed every concern of hers.
Now, in a war he had instigated against the wolf clan, she had deliberately come to turn the tide. And not just that: she had called him a disgrace because of the broken treaty, the treaty between all four clans, the very agreement every ruler swore to protect. He felt incredibly disgusted with his behaviour.
A heavy wind rattled the tents at the battlefield’s edge. Leon heard murmurs from his own lines. "Princess Catalina." "The sword." "She’s here."
He finally found his voice, tight and brittle. "Catalina..." he said, the name a question, a complaint, a memory.
She didn’t move her blade. "Retreat right now, and the Alpha will forgive your transgression" Her voice carried across the field, clear and unwavering. "This is the end. You cannot defy your ancestors’ treaty and expect no challenge."
Leon swallowed loudly, glancing at his commanders. They looked at him with concern. Some lowered their spears.
Catalina’s expression softened for a fraction of a heartbeat—enough for Leon to remember childhood mornings when she braided his hair, the warmth of family it had once represented. But that warmth was gone.
Ronan and Soren watched from the other side
Catalina stepped forward, blade lowered an inch. "Brother, do not continue better seen in your pride than in your heart." She spoke not to the soldiers, but to Leon. "Lay down your arms."
Leon felt dizzy. Pride and despair warred in his chest. He had fed on pride all his life. But pride now made him blind. "Since my dear sister is requesting it, I will give in." He said in a self-mocking tone.
Catalina narrowed her eyes at him and called her sister again. Ever since he had been crowned, he wouldn’t call her that, but suddenly, he was calling her sister like they were close.
Ronan gave her a small bow of respect. Then, with one sweeping gesture, he signalled to his reinforcements. What felt like hundreds of soldiers stepped back, giving ground. Soren’s men followed, drawing their line tighter and farther from Leon’s front.
Leon stood at the centre of his stagnant force, flanked by Catalina on one side and Ronan on the other. His world had shifted within minutes.
He drew in a steadying breath.
Leon’s shoulders sagged. He turned to his own commanders—some watching with stunned seriousness, others uncertain. He lifted his hand, palm outward. "Stand down. Return to the kingdom."
They hesitated, then picked themselves up and obeyed. Swords slid back into their sheaths. Spears lowered. Bows were unstrung.
Leon looked at the field, at the divided lines of soldiers, and finally at Catalina and Ronan. He nodded. One slow, decisive nod. "Well played, Ronan." He muttered.
Leon lowered his gaze, circling past the flattened grass of the battlefield. As he passed Riven, their eyes locked for a brief heartbeat—Leon’s expression softer than any Riven had ever seen. Something pleading flickered there, as if he was asking Riven to come with him.
Riven blinked and looked away. What did that look mean? He thought to himself.
"Did you... Know Ronan was coming?" Riven asked, voice quiet and curious. He turned to look at Soren, who did not seem surprised at Ronan’s sudden appearance.
Soren exhaled slowly. His gaze drifted toward Leon, then towards Ronan before landing back on Riven.
Soren sighed, the weight of annoyance pooling in his chest. "Well, not exactly, but I knew that he was going to change the tides," he admitted. What they needed was time, for both Soren and Ronan to summon their soldiers, it would take time, time that Leon would not give them.
Riven met his gaze with a steady look, the corners of his mouth hinting at a smirk. "You sound almost impressed, Soren." If they both got along, his problems would be reduced by half. And also... Threesomes, the most important thing on his mind.
"Impressed? Not quite." Soren rolled his eyes, trying to mask the begrudging admiration creeping in. "I just give credit where it’s due. He is good at playing his cards, I’ll give him that."
Ronan, who finally reached Riven after commanding the soldiers, heard what that annoying snow leopard had to say, his demeanour shifted slightly, recognising the begrudging respect hidden in Soren’s words. "I’m just doing what needs to be done," he replied, his tone serious.
He was going to accept the respect, but he did not need any praise. He was doing what a good ruler should, always humble.
Soren completely ignored that mutt and focused on Riven instead, "So... Are you finally going to tell us?"
Riven tilted his head in confusion, "Tell you what?"
Soren chuckled, it was pleasant to hear but Riven knew that danger lurked behind it, "Tell us what went down between you and that lion."
Oh- Oh... No...
