Chapter 106: Just Delete Me

The door to the guest quarters didn’t just close, it was kicked shut with a finality that echoed in Xin Yi’s bones.

THUD.

Xin Yi didn’t have time to process the geography of the room. All she knew was that she was pinned against the rough wood of the door, her feet dangling inches off the ground, held up effortlessly by the cool, hard bands of Qing Lin’s arms.

"Qing Lin," she gasped, her hands instinctively clutching his shoulders to steady herself. "The... the blueprints. The Goddess... the life link..."

"Do not speak of them," Qing Lin hissed.

He buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling deeply, desperate and starving. His nose brushed against her pulse point, cold against her fever-warm skin. It was a shock to the system, fire meeting ice, and Xin Yi couldn’t suppress the shiver that racked her body.

"You smell of dust," he murmured, his lips grazing her collarbone. "Of that wretched charcoal. And...of Wolf."

He growled the last word, his teeth scraping lightly against her skin. Not enough to break it, but enough to claim.

"I have been here for some time," Xin Yi whispered, her head falling back against the door as his hands tightened on her waist. "Everything smells like Wolf."

"I will fix that."

He carried her away from the door.

The room Xin Yi had assigned him was spacious, chosen specifically because it was built near the fortress’s main chimney. It was the warmest room in the castle, and someone, probably a terrified Wolf servant, had already lit a massive fire in the hearth.

The air was thick and dry, a stark contrast to the humid swamp of the Azure Scale territory, but the heat was stifling.

Or maybe that was just Qing Lin.

He moved quickly, laying her down on the pile of furs spread before the fire. Before she could even adjust to the softness of the pelts, he was over her.

He hovered, bracing himself on his forearms, caging her in.

His long, dark hair spilled forward like a curtain of silk, shielding them from the rest of the world. His emerald eyes were glowing, with vertical pupils blown wide, swallowing the iris until his eyes were almost entirely black pools of desire.

"I craved you," he confessed.

"I did too," Xin Yi admitted, her voice trembling.

She reached up, her fingers threading through his cool, silky hair.

"For the first few days, I didn’t know if I’d see you again."

"You will always see me," he swore. "I would have torn down every stone of this fortress with my bare hands to find you."

He lowered his head.

This time, the kiss was slow.

It wasn’t the frantic, possessive claiming of the balcony. This was a savoring. His lips were cool, soft. He kissed her deeply, his tongue tracing the seam of her lips, coaxing her open.

Xin Yi melted.

Her hands slid down his back, feeling the muscles shift beneath his silk robes. She tugged at his sash.

He broke the kiss with a sharp intake of breath, pulling back just enough to look at her.

"You can no longer wait?" he teased, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "And here I thought I was the savage one."

"Shut up," Xin Yi blushed furiously, trying to pull her hands back.

He caught her wrists.

"No," he whispered. He guided her hands back to his chest, pressing her palms against where his heart beat, slow, heavy, and rhythmic. Thump... thump... thump...

"Touch me, Xin Yi. Remind me that you are real."

[DING! (¬‿¬)]

[Host is FINALLY about to get some]

[I’m in full support!]

Xin Yi ignored the blue screen hovering near the ceiling. She focused only on the man, the snake above her.

She pulled him down.

The friction was electric. His cold skin against her warmth created a sensation that made her toes curl. He kissed her jaw, her throat, the sensitive spot behind her ear that made her gasp. His hands roamed over her body, memorizing every curve, every dip, reclaiming territory that had been away from him for too long.

"Mine," he growled against her skin. "Not the Wolf’s. Not the Panther’s. Mine."

"Yours," Xin Yi breathed, caught in the haze. "I’m yours."

He shifted, his knee parting her legs, settling his weight between her thighs.

His hand slid up her thigh, pushing the hem of the oversized Wolf tunic upward. His fingers were cool, sending goosebumps racing across her skin.

"Qing Lin," she whimpered.

"I am here," he rasped, his eyes locking onto hers. "I am going to make you forget every other male in this world. I am going to make you forget your own name."

He leaned down, his lips hovering inches from hers, the air between them crackling with unspoken promises.

He closed the distance.

BAM!

The door flew open.

"HELLO!"

A cheerful, high-pitched voice shattered the atmosphere like a hammer hitting a glass vase.

Xin Yi screamed.

Qing Lin froze. He didn’t move. He didn’t flinch. He just...stopped.

Xin Yi scrambled backward, frantically pulling her tunic down and clutching the furs to her chest.

Standing in the doorway was a girl.

It was Zhao Li. The most innocent, loud, and socially unaware creature in the entire Beast World.

"I brought snacks!" Zhao Li announced beaming. "Uncle Sha Chen was grumpy, so I thought the guests might be hungry!"

She stepped into the room, humming a little tune.

Then, she stopped.

She blinked.

She looked at the fireplace.

She looked at the furs.

She looked at the very disheveled Xin Yi clutching a blanket.

And finally, she looked at the Snake King.

Qing Lin was currently sitting on his knees. His hair was messy. His robes were open. And his face.....

If looks could kill, Zhao Li would have been vaporized into a fine red mist instantly.

Zhao Li tilted her head to the side, her ears flopping.

"Eh?" She pointed a greasy finger at Qing Lin. "Why are you on top of Uncle Sha Chen’s female?"

Silence.

Absolute, vacuum-sealed silence.

[DING! (⊙_⊙)]

[CRITICAL HIT!]

[EMOTIONAL DAMAGE: 99999!]

[QING LIN’S KILL SWITCH: ACTIVATED.]

Xin Yi felt the blood drain from her face. "Zhao Li.....no..."

Qing Lin turned his head slowly. Very slowly. His neck cracked.

"What," he hissed, the word sounding like steam escaping a pressure valve, "did you just call her?"

Zhao Li blinked, completely immune to the murderous aura radiating from the Snake King. She took a bite of a roasted leg she was holding.

"Uncle Sha Chen’s female!" she repeated with a mouthful of meat. "Because she lives here! And she smells like Uncle! And Uncle Sha Chen likes her! So she is his!"

She swallowed and smiled brightly.

"Are you wrestling? Is that a Snake game? It looks fun! Can I play?"

Qing Lin stood up.

"I am going," Qing Lin said, his voice terrifyingly calm, "to skin this pup."

"NO!" Xin Yi lunged forward, grabbing Qing Lin by the sash of his robe. "Qing Lin! She’s a child! She doesn’t know!"

"She called you his," Qing Lin snarled, spinning around. "You are MINE! I just spent the last hour washing his scent off you, and this.....this whelp comes in and claims you for him?!"

"I didn’t claim her!" Zhao Li said helpfully, walking further into the room and setting the tray down the bed. "Uncle claimed her! Everyone knows that! The whole pack knows!"

"ZHAO LI, baby, SHUT UP!" Xin Yi screamed.

"Why is everyone yelling?" Zhao Li asked, confused. She picked up a piece of meat and offered it to Qing Lin. "Do you want a rib? It’s spicy."

Qing Lin looked at the rib.

Then at Zhao Li.

Then at Xin Yi.

A vein in his forehead throbbed visibly.

"I am leaving," Qing Lin announced abruptly. "If I stay in this room for one more second, I will commit an act that will violate the Neutral Zone treaty before the ink is even dry."

He marched toward the door.

"Where are you going?" Xin Yi cried, scrambling off the furs. "We were.....we were having a moment!"

"The moment is dead," Qing Lin snapped. He paused at the door, glaring at Zhao Li. "And you. Tell your Uncle..."

He bared his fangs, his venom glands swelling.

"Tell him to lock his door tonight."

He slammed the door so hard the tray of meat jumped off the bed.

BANG.

Xin Yi stood there in the middle of the room, hair wild, lips swollen, sexually frustrated, and wanting to scream into a pillow.

Zhao Li looked at the closed door. Then she looked at Xin Yi.

"He seems grumpy," the wolf girl noted. "Did he lose the wrestling match?"

[DING! (≧▽≦)]

[System: Achievement Unlocked: ’Mood Killer’.]

[Reward: One very angry Snake and one very oblivious Wolf.]

[Current Status: Host is definitely not getting laid tonight.]

Xin Yi looked at the ceiling. "Goddess... if you are listening....just delete me. Reset everything. I’m ready."
