Help, I'm in Another World and All the Men Are Are So Dangerous! [BL]-Chapter 134: Family Tensions and Unspoken Histories
Chapter 134: Family Tensions and Unspoken Histories
The plot of the original story was about to be completely derailed!
Panicked, Rocco slammed his hand on the table and stood up dramatically, as if to declare "Objection!" with all the confidence he could muster.
"No, Father! You can’t interfere with my brother’s love life!"
It was terrible that his father wouldn’t approve of Sylas’s marriage!
Rocco huffed in frustration, but for some reason, the entire Del Fiore family father and son burst into laughter once again.
What was going on?
"Rocco, sit down."
"Huh? Uh, okay...?"
Makarov and Laxus, who had been laughing until they had tears in their eyes, finally began to settle down.
It was Sylas, his voice tinged with weariness, who spoke.
Although confused, Rocco obediently sat back down, fidgeting uncomfortably in the chaotic atmosphere that lingered.
His father had just declared that he had no intention of allowing Sylas—his child—to marry anyone.
That meant that, even if Sylas and Laxus’s relationship progressed to the point of marriage, his father would refuse to approve it.
How had it gone in the original story again?
If Rocco remembered correctly, there was indeed initial resistance from Sylas’s father toward Laxus, the heir of the Del Fiore family.
However, in the end, his father acknowledged Laxus’s capabilities and accepted their relationship.
Wait, if that’s the case, maybe Rocco didn’t need to panic and try to change his father’s mind right now.
From a storyline perspective, the protagonist pair was destined to overcome trials and tribulations to be together.
Even if his father represented a significant hurdle, they were the protagonists, after all—they’d have some kind of "plot armor" to ensure a happy ending.
Oh, so there was no need to worry at all!
Relieved, Rocco swung his legs under the table, feeling pleased with himself for solving his own dilemma.
As he basked in this newfound calm, his father’s sharp clearing of his throat shattered the moment.
"Enough of this nonsense. Let me make this clear: Rocco’s marriage will never be approved under any circumstances. Therefore, the day I hand Rocco over to your family will never come. That’s all. Now, let’s move on to the main discussion."
Huh? My marriage?
Before Rocco could process his confusion, his father had already pivoted back to the main topic at hand, leaving him behind to puzzle over what had just been said.
It felt like someone had dropped a bombshell at the very end, but for now, the meeting took priority.
Rocco straightened his posture, bracing himself and refocusing his thoughts.
"Hmm... I hate to interrupt just as we’re about to begin discussions, but could I ask one thing first?"
The previously relaxed atmosphere instantly shifted to something more tense and somber.
Feeling the change, Rocco adjusted himself quietly in his seat, holding his breath.
Just as the meeting was about to start in earnest, Makarov, lightly raised his hand.
"What is it?" Marcus asked, his expression skeptical, his brows furrowed.
With a faint smile, Makarov tilted his head slightly.
"Well, it’s a bit of a preliminary question. This meeting was called to discuss the major player targeting our two families, right? But, as I recall, the source of this information came from the Di Malventos, didn’t it?"
Makarov rested both elbows on the table, clasped his hands, and propped his chin on them as he spoke.
His demeanor seemed as cheerful as it had been moments earlier, but Rocco noticed the subtle shift—a chill in the atmosphere that hadn’t been there seconds ago.
His father undoubtedly noticed it too.
The room grew quiet as Makarov’s voice echoed, followed by the anticipated response from Marcus.
Rocco’s attention was riveted on the two men, his nerves taut as if he were watching a duel.
"What of it?" his father replied curtly.
"Well, it’s definitely valuable information, and we appreciate you sharing it with us. But... is it really wise to trust everything that comes from the Di Malventos without question? Don’t you think?"
Marcus brow twitched slightly in response, and Rocco broke out into a nervous sweat.
Despite his unease, he maintained a calm, neutral expression, unwilling to betray his feelings.
It was clear that this was now entirely the "parent’s round."
Neither Laxus nor Sylas showed any intention of speaking up.
The atmosphere was that of a duel between the heads of the families—though it wasn’t exactly a fight, per se.
"We accepted the risks involved in this meeting when we decided to proceed," Marcus responded firmly. "Let me make it clear—the Di Malventos are concerned only with the shadow of an enemy encroaching on the families. Rest assured, we have neither the time nor the interest to concoct schemes to undermine you."
"Wow, you’re as sharp-tongued as ever," Makarov replied with an exaggerated sigh.
Marcus delivered his sharp response with an impassive expression, leaving even Makarov visibly taken aback.
To be fair, even Rocco found himself wincing internally at how bluntly his father dismissed the remarks.
It was a cutting rebuke, but it was just so... characteristic of his father.
Apparently, the man treated outsiders with the same unyielding demeanor he reserved for his family.
"Well, you’re right," Makarov said, attempting to smooth things over. "It was just a precaution, you know? I wasn’t seriously doubting you, so don’t give me that scary look."
"It’s your fault for tossing out comments that undermine the entire purpose of this meeting," Marcus retorted coldly.
"Alright, alright, I’m sorry!" Makarov said with a sheepish laugh. "You’ve always been quick-tempered. Even now, after all these years, you’re still the same short-fused, no-nonsense guy I remember."
Hmm.
Judging by their exchange, the two seemed to be old acquaintances.
In the original storyline, there was a clear divide between the Di Malventos and the Del Fiores, so Rocco had assumed the family heads must have had a terrible relationship.
However, now that he thought about it, the focus of the story had always been on the protagonists.
It never delved into the background dynamics between his father and Makarov.
