Chapter 167: Rocco’s Unexpected Tears and the Prison Blockade

"Thanks for everything, Ragar. This is for you. Say ’ahh’."

Ragar let out a small gasp but then hesitantly opened his mouth and took a bite.

His sharp fangs briefly flashed as he chewed, making Rocco blink his eyes.

If those fangs ever bit into him, he’d probably be devoured down to the bone in an instant.

Unlike the others, he wasn’t particularly trained, so his body was soft and delicate.

The thought sent a chill down his spine and his face turned paled slightly.

"Ragar... you’re not allowed to eat me, okay?"

"Of course not, Young Master. I would never commit such disrespect."

Ragar with his bulky body tilted his head in confusion.

Rocco wanted to believe him, but coming from someone with that kind of physique, the reassurance wasn’t entirely convincing.

Still, it was Ragar.

He could trust him.

If it were Georgio, who was always goofing around, his trust level would be zero.

Speaking of Georgio... Rocco suddenly wondered if he was doing okay.

Absentmindedly, his hand reached toward the scar over Ragar’s right eye—a deep, vertical wound.

When his fingers brushed against it, he felt the rough, uneven texture, and his expression softened instinctively.

Not out of fear, but because he could imagine how painful it must have been when Ragar got that injury.

Ragar seemed startled by the change in his expression.

"Young Master...?" he asked hesitantly, looking uneasy.

Rocco quickly snapped out of it.

He shouldn’t have made that kind of face—Ragar might misunderstand his thoughts.

"Ragar, I care about you a lot. I trust you completely. So... if you’re ever in pain, make sure to tell me, okay? I’ll protect you."

Maybe it was because he had unconsciously touched the scar, but suddenly, his mind was flooded with thoughts of Ragar’s past.

The words slipped out before he could stop them.

Realizing how abrupt he had been, his cheeks turned red with embarrassment.

Had he made things awkward?

He lifted his gaze to check on Ragar—

—and froze.

"R-Ragar...? What’s wrong? Are you hurt?!"

"...N-no. It’s nothing... I-I’m sorry, I just..."

A single tear rolled down Ragar’s cheek.

Rocco quickly reached up his hand and patted Ragar’s head, ears and all.

When someone wanted to cry, getting a comforting pat usually helped them calm down—it was something he had learned from experience.

"Ragar, good boy, good boy. If you’re ever sad, I’ll give you a big hug, so it’s okay to cry."

After all, whenever Rocco had nightmares, he often asked Ragar for hugs in the morning.

It went both ways.

Crying when sad wasn’t something only children did—adults did it too.

Humans and Beastmen alike.

There was no need to hide it.

Rocco wrapped his arms around Ragar and give him a warm hug.

The embrace lasted for a few seconds before he suddenly snapped back to reality.

Right—he had almost forgotten his original purpose.

If he didn’t hurry, the scene would be wiped clean.

"Ragar. Sorry for the sudden request, but can you carry me and go to the underground prison?"

"Of course. As you command, Young Master."

As Rocco wiped the tear tracks from Ragar’s cheeks which had been soft and emotional just moments ago and instantly returned to its usual sharp and focused expression.

His ability to switch gears was impressive.

With a powerful leap, Ragar dashed through the hallway at beast-like speed.

Rocco clung onto him tightly, bracing himself against the rushing wind.

They leaped down a narrow, hidden spiral staircase tucked away in the corner of the estate, skipping the railing entirely, and landed smoothly on the floor leading to the underground prison.

The sheer agility and precision of the movement left Rocco in shock—this was the peak of Beastman ability.

The sudden descent startled the prison guard so much that he fell flat on his backside.

"W-Who goes there?! ...Wait, Young Master Rocco?!"

The guard who is scrambled to his feet, swiftly drawing his sword from its sheath.

However, as soon as he realized who Rocco was, he quickly sheathed his weapon, looking flustered.

Rocco stared at the guard, a nagging sense of familiarity growing stronger.

Then, suddenly, it clicked—his eyes widened in realization.

"Ah! You’re Yori!"

He was Yori, a member of the Assassin Squad led by Georgio—also known as the "Handsome Braided Big Brother."

He was the one who had nearly died after getting kicked by Georgio.

Quite some time had passed since then, but it seemed his injuries had fully healed, which was a relief.

The fact that he had gone from being in the Assassin Squad to a prison guard gave off a bit of a "punishment in disguise" kind of vibe, but Rocco decided to quietly look away from that reality.

"Young Master Rocco, what brings you here? The inner cells are currently off-limits..."

Rocco immediately perked up at Yori’s words.

That hesitant expression and awkward tone... There was no doubt about it.

The "inner cells" he mentioned had to be where his mother had been.

Realizing this, Rocco reached out and lightly poked Ragar’s shoulder.

Ragar quickly understood the unspoken command and giving him a small nod before he gently setting Rocco down on the ground.

Rocco dashed over to Yori while puffed out his chest and gave a firm "order."

"This is a command. Take me to that inner cell."

"Uh, no can do. I was strictly ordered by the Young Master Sylas not to let you through under any circumstances."

"Gaaah!!"

Rocco collapsed to the ground dramatically while dropping to his hands and knees in defeat.

It wasn’t that he was sad about being refused.

What truly stung was that Sylas had anticipated his every move.

It was so frustrating, he could almost cry.

Now it made sense why Sylas hadn’t stopped him from leaving the room earlier.

If Sylas had thought Rocco was just going to run around aimlessly, he would have pulled him back immediately.

Instead, Sylas had already accounted for Rocco’s actions and had taken precautions accordingly.
