Chapter 137: A Day in the City

Wait, Theo and Sebas were going to be involved in this? The situation was getting bigger than he had expected.

"Then, as a reward for today, I shall grant you one," Elyon said, suddenly looking flustered and turning red.

"Huh? A reward? What’s that again?" Damien asked, feigning confusion.

"What!? You’re the one who brought it up!" Elyon replied, flustered.

"Ehh, I don’t really remember," Damien teased, pretending to have forgotten.

He was lying, of course. He remembered everything.

Feigning innocence, Damien laid back on the bed, closing his eyes, and puckered his lips as if waiting for a kiss.

"Good grief, you little...," Elyon muttered, then, with a sigh, leaned over and gave Damien a light kiss.

That was when Damien sprang into action, catching Elyon by surprise. He wrapped his arms and legs around Elyon, kissing him repeatedly on the face.

"Wha—what are you—hey, wait! It’s almost dinner time! Stop it! Noooo—!"

Elyon’s protests were weak and unconvincing as Damien continued to playfully kiss him.

...

At dinner, Damien was surprised to see Elyon sitting with them in the usual lounge.

Elyon usually ate alone, out in the forest somewhere, but today he was here because he said there was a "practical test" to discuss.

He was eating something that looked like a salad, a separate meal from theirs.

Was he a vegetarian?

Lately, Theo and Sebas had been so busy that the only time they had to talk was during meals. Even Elyon, though he was their teacher, seemed to understand that and made himself scarce during the conversations.

"Practical test...?" Theo asked, her expression curious.

Damien was just as uncertain as to what it actually entailed.

"Well," Elyon began, "the best way to learn numbers is to deal with actual, real-life numbers, so I thought I’d take him to the city tomorrow."

Wait, what? He could go outside?

For Damien, who had resigned himself to never leaving the mansion, this was a huge shock, like a bolt from the blue.

But Theo was making a serious face, and it seemed unlikely that this was going to happen.

"Sebas, what do you think?" Theo asked.

"Considering the need for protection, I cannot possibly approve," Sebas replied. "Given the current situation, it would be impossible to provide the large-scale security that would be required, especially considering the delicate position of Sir Damien. While it would be possible to arrange for a discreet outing, there is no one available who is both skilled enough and free to take on such a responsibility. So, that option is also impossible."

"Yeah, I figured..."

Damien sighed inwardly. As someone who had somehow ended up being treated as Theo’s mysterious lover, he couldn’t ask for such an extravagant arrangement, especially considering the shortage of staff due to the embezzlement investigation involving the viscount.

Though he had wanted to see the outside world, it seemed like there was no choice but to give up.

Still, he had the freedom to roam the mansion, and recently, he could even visit the backyard. There was no shortage of people to talk to, so it wasn’t like he was particularly dissatisfied.

He was lost in these thoughts when Sebas spoke up again.

"However, that’s only the issue of security. Beyond that, I believe it would be good for Sir Damien to get used to ’the outside’ sooner rather than later."

Damien was surprised by Sebas’s unexpectedly supportive stance.

"Exactly. The only problem is security."

Theo was clearly agreeing with Sebas.

"Damien, do you want to go outside?" he asked.

"Yes!" Damien responded instantly, nodding eagerly.

He hadn’t realized how much he’d been looking forward to it. After all, he did want to see the streets of this other world, even if it was for a short time.

That said, he didn’t want to trouble anyone with his wish.

"But... if it’s impossible, then that’s fine. I’m not that desperate to go outside or anything."

He immediately felt like it wasn’t convincing, especially since he had nodded so quickly.

Theo smiled faintly, clearly sensing the contradiction.

Damien hadn’t meant to lie, but he might have been a bit too vague.

"Understood. I’ll fall into the trap of my teacher’s plan, then. Teacher, I’d like to ask you to provide protection for Damien tomorrow."

"Got it! Leave it to me!" Elyon said, looking very pleased.

And just like that, Damien was given the green light.

"So, Damien, you can go out and see the city with Teacher tomorrow."

It seemed like he was actually going to get to go outside after all! 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

"Yay!!" Damien exclaimed, barely able to contain his excitement.

Morning dawned, and breakfast in the lounge became a hub of last-minute planning for the day’s trip to the city.

Damien sat with Theo, Sebas, and Elyon, ironing out the details of their outing.

Leonide, Damien’s assigned servant, stood silently against the wall, awaiting orders. As usual, Elyon had ordered Leonide to stay away from him, leaving the young man lingering awkwardly on the sidelines.

Even though Damien had already repaid the favor that had initially bound him to Elyon’s demands, he couldn’t exactly say so out loud. Elyon had reluctantly agreed to keep the truth hidden, at least for now. For the moment, it seemed neither Theo nor Leonide had any idea.

Sebas, though? Damien was convinced he knew. But if Sebas had figured it out, he hadn’t said a word to Theo—probably out of deference to Elyon’s wishes.

Theo, on the other hand, didn’t seem interested in prying. Damien suspected his sharp instincts would unravel everything if he wanted to, but for some reason, Theo didn’t even seem curious.

Still, Damien couldn’t shake the feeling that their sudden closeness might be raising suspicions. The whole situation gave Damien an odd, guilty sensation, like being caught juggling too many secrets at once.

"The plan is simple," Theo said, redirecting the discussion. "You and Teacher will act as our household staff that was sent to the city to purchase some ingredients."
