Chapter 216: The Diary of Yegor Tretyakov

Since Elyon didn’t have any language classes today, that might be the reason.

Damien did feel a little guilty about relaxing alone while everyone else was working, but according to Leonide, this was a necessary time for him.

It was still early in the morning, so the mansion wasn’t fully operational yet.

Of course, the staff had already woken up earlier than them and started working, but it wasn’t yet perfect, or so Leonide had explained.

Damien didn’t mind the imperfection, but Leonide and the others had emphasized that it was a matter of pride for the staff.

So, people like Damien and Theo, the masters of the house, were expected to stay in their rooms for a while longer and pass the time.

Most people would be doing work they could do in their rooms, reading letters that had arrived in the morning, or receiving reports of what had happened the previous night. But since Damien didn’t have anything like that to do, he was just relaxing for now.

So, for a little while longer, he decided to mess around with Ithnan.

"Master, that tickles!"

"That’s fine, that’s fine!"

Damien caught Ithnan, who was trying to escape, and forcibly removed his clothes.

"Don’t do it so forcefully... it’s embarrassing..."

Ithnan who is now exposed, fidgeted shyly.

Damien looked at the smooth skin around Ithnan’s elbow, where some of the old skin had come off, feeling satisfied as he nodded.

It seemed that people like Ithnan, the Dragonewts, regularly shed their skin.

Damien had noticed that Ithnan’s elbow had started to peel today and had learned about it from him.

Ithnan had started shedding recently, and although he thought he had peeled everything off, there were still some parts left.

Next time, when it’s shedding season again, Damien planned to help him peel it.

Looking at Ithnan’s now smooth elbow, he made a mental note to do that.

After their break, it was time for work.

Damien, dressed in the loungewear that Zima had helped him change into, made his way to the library, where he was scheduled to meet Theo.

The library, as the name suggested, was a place where all the books in the mansion were stored. It had tables for reading and felt more like a small library.

Since Damien was still in the process of learning how to read, he hadn’t had much use for the library yet, but Theo had shown him around once before.

When they arrived in front of the library, Ithnan knocked on the door on Damien’s behalf. Afterward, he exchanged some words with Sebas, who had come out to greet them.

It was a bit of a hassle, but since it was part of the proper etiquette, Damien obediently went along with it. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

"Please, Sir Damien. Young Master is waiting inside," Sebas invited Damien into the library.

Ithnan remained outside, standing guard.

"Good morning, Theo!"

"Good morning, Damien."

Theo,l who is sitting at the reading table surrounded by piles of books, smiled brightly as he greeted Damien.

"You seem a little tired still. Are you alright?"

Damien noticed the dark circles under Theo’s eyes.

Had he not been getting enough sleep?

"Oh, I’ve just been preparing for today."

Theo gave a wry smile, but there was a slight shadow of something unspoken in his expression.

It wasn’t exactly a lie, but it wasn’t entirely the truth either.

It was rare for Theo to lie to him, so Damien decided to pretend he hadn’t noticed. There must have been a reason for it.

"...I guess you’ve noticed, huh?"

And just like that, it was clear that Theo knew Damien had seen through him.

Lately, Theo seemed to be able to read Damien’s thoughts without any effort.

"I couldn’t sleep because I had some things on my mind," Theo explained. "It’s not that I’m sick or anything is wrong, so you don’t have to worry."

This time, there was no trace of the fog.

"Is that so? Should I not ask about it?" Damien asked.

"I’m still debating whether or not to tell you, so please don’t ask," Theo replied with a wry smile.

From the way Theo said it, it seemed like it was something related to Damien, but... well, if Theo asked him not to ask, he wouldn’t push.

"Okay, I understand. Well then, should we get to work?" Damien said.

"...Yeah, I suppose so," Theo replied, his voice carrying a slight pause.

It seemed like Theo was troubled by the work itself.

Damien had gotten fairly good at reading Theo’s thoughts by now.

"The task I’d like you to help with, Damien, is to decipher some texts left behind by an Earthian named Yegor Tretyakov, who arrived in this world about 800 years ago."

Ah, so it was something related to Earth.

Damien now understood what had been bothering Theo.

"I’m sorry, I debated until the last minute whether I should ask you for help," Theo said, his tone apologetic.

Damien realized that Theo had been hesitant to ask him for help, but the fact that he had done so meant that Theo must have been under some considerable pressure.

"It’s okay, you don’t need to worry about that," Damien reassured him. "Honestly, I’d be happy to help with whatever I can."

"Thank you... I really appreciate it," Theo said, bowing deeply, looking visibly troubled.

Damien smiled, but inside, he couldn’t deny that he was still feeling some kind of pain when it came to things related to Earth. However, the happiness of being able to help Theo outweighed that sadness now.

"Alright then, let’s get this over with. What kind of book is it?"

"This is it," Theo said, pointing to the table. There, along with a beautifully bound book, was a small booklet tied together with string, made from old, yellowed paper.

On closer inspection, the text in the first page was read as "Journey" and "Yegor Tretyakov."

"This is the diary said to have been written by Yegor Tretyakov," Theo explained.

Damien was taken aback. "Oh... wow."
