Chapter 259: Taking Responsibility

"Um, the head of the Crowell family hasn’t agreed to this yet, you know?" Damien said, feeling a bit left out.

In the past, he might have sulked and let them do whatever they wanted with his fate, but now, having some responsibility for the lives of a few people, he was beginning to feel differently.

He couldn’t just ignore what was being discussed.

"Ah, sorry about that," Theo apologized. "It’s just so convenient that I got carried away."

"I apologize as well, Sir Damien," Sebas added, both of them bowing their heads.

Damien shook his head. "It’s fine. I don’t really understand all of this anyway, so I’ll just go along with whatever you two decide. But I do have Leonide and the others with me, so I’d like to hear the details to prepare myself."

"You’re absolutely right, Damien," Theo agreed. "I’m sorry about that. Since we’re at this point, we should gather Leonide and the others and officially discuss this as a request from the Dalehaven family."

Damien felt his world getting bigger.

But, this was something he, as the head of a baron family, had to do.

It was starting to feel like he couldn’t escape his responsibilities as a baron after all.

The scene shifted to the lounge in Damien’s room.

Of course, there was also a lounge for Theo, but when it came to private conversations between them, they usually ended up using this one.

As usual, Theo sat on one side of the table, with Sebas standing behind him.

On the opposite side of the table were Damien and his four vassals, including Leonide.

Today, the topic of discussion was related to Damien’s duties as the head of his household, so it was just this group. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Yor, who had not left Damien’s side since they visited the slave merchant’s store, was...

"Big brother, tea," Yor said, wearing a slightly oversized servant’s uniform as he brought tea to Damien.

"Thank you," Damien replied, patting Yor’s soft hair as he smiled happily and returned to the kitchen... to Zima.

Damien watched Yor’s retreating figure before whispering to Leonide, who was sitting beside him.

"Something’s changed with him. What did you say to him?"

Yor had been constantly clinging to Damien and had developed a habit of kissing him. After being introduced to Leonide and speaking with him, Yor had changed completely. He no longer clung to Damien and, in fact, had even started helping out on his own.

The sudden change was strange.

Knowing Leonide, Damien was sure he hadn’t said anything inappropriate, but he still wanted to know what had been said.

"I just told him that if he doesn’t behave, he’ll be disliked by the master," Leonide said.

"Wait, just that?" Damien asked, surprised.

"Yes, among us, no one can resist when it’s said like that," Leonide replied.

"Really?"

"Yes."

"Well, if it gets out of hand next time, maybe I’ll try saying it too," Damien said, with a lighthearted tone, though he was concerned about Yor starting to kiss him in front of others.

"Please don’t," Leonide interjected. "If the master says something like that directly, not just him but all of us, including myself, would end up crying."

Damien was stopped with a serious face.

"No, no, that’s an overreaction," he said.

"I will cry, seriously cry," Leonide insisted.

"...I won’t say it," Damien replied, nodding his head quietly since Leonide’s eyes were so serious.

Seeing that, Leonide seemed satisfied and nodded as well.

"That child... we will teach Yor various things, so I hope you can be patient with him and watch over him. I think he has potential," Leonide said.

Damien didn’t think enough time had passed to assess his skills in housework, so he wondered what potential Leonide was talking about.

Did Yor have something that stood out at first glance?

"He’ll make a good member for your harem," Leonide added.

Damien decided to ignore that comment.

"However, he’s become quite attached to you. What did you do to him?" Leonide asked.

It already sounded like Damien had done something to cause it.

"That’s a bad way to put it," Damien muttered.

"I don’t really know what I did," he added.

They had only met today, and they had just exchanged a few words. Yet, for some reason, Yor’s affection for him seemed off the charts.

To be honest, Damien was a little bewildered as well.

It was just his guess, but this might be Yor’s way of getting by in life.

It didn’t seem like Yor was doing it intentionally, so it was probably all unconscious... but that made it even more troublesome.

As the slave merchant had said, Yor might indeed be a dangerous child.

"Big brother, here’s some sweets," Yor said, bringing the tea snacks over.

While thinking about that, Damien patted Yor’s head.

After Yor smiled happily, he closed his eyes and puckered his lips, so Damien gave him a light kiss on the lips.

Yor who is embarrassed, pressed his cheek and ran back to the kitchen.

Damien made up his mind to work hard to help Yor live comfortably.

Now, with the tea ready, it was time to discuss business.

...Ah, yes, right. Before the business, a kiss for everyone.

Yes, Damien understood, and he was more than willing.

"Wait!? Even Theo!?"

Even though there was no one around to see them, they all insisted on being serious.

Damien got a scolding from everyone.

Indeed, it wasn’t something Damien should be saying.

He reflected on it.

Everyone forgave him after he kissed them once more.

Now, with his spirits lifted, it was time for the serious discussion.

"So, the reason I gathered everyone today is that I want to have the young heir of the Castellani family taken in by the Crowell family," Theo said, after briefly scanning the room.

"Uh, what do you mean by ’taken in’?" someone asked. "Aren’t they supposed to be with their parents?"

Theo had taken some time to come to the drawing room, so Damien had talked with Leonide and the others in the meantime. They were all aware of the Castellani family’s downfall.
