Chapter 293: Yor’s Mischief and Augusto’s Dilemma

"...All right, I understand..." Augusto finally relented, his tone reluctant. He cast a glance at Yor, whose cheeks were starting to puff out again, and gave in with a defeated sigh.

While Augusto still seemed conflicted—more out of guilt than annoyance—about the idea of going to bed before Damien, he didn’t appear to have any objections to the idea of continuing to care for Damien tomorrow.

But wait, wasn’t Augusto supposed to be a guest? Officially, he was here to be cared for, not to take care of someone else.

Even without the whole plan to pamper Augusto, Damien thought, this was absolutely backward.

The plan was falling further and further off course.

"Okay then, big brother, give Augusto a goodnight kiss," Yor said cheerfully.

"Wha—?!"

"Excuse me?!"

Damien’s already confused mind came to a screeching halt as Yor’s words landed like a bombshell.

Augusto’s face mirrored his shock, eyes wide in disbelief.

"Huh? What’s wrong? Big brother, you always give goodnight kisses. You have to do it, just like usual."

Sure, Damien thought, I do that with people I’m dating. But Augusto? No way!

"N-No! I—I couldn’t possibly—! I mean, I’m sorry, but that’s just—!" Augusto stammered, utterly flustered.

"What’s wrong, big brother? If you don’t give Augusto a kiss, he’ll cry," Yor said, his cheeks puffing up again, this time in visible disapproval.

Damien thought to himself, I really need to teach Yor the difference between how you treat a romantic partner and how you treat a close friend... and fast.

For now, though, he had to deal with Yor, who looked like he might explode any second.

"Uh, Augusto... um, it seems that’s what Yor wants, so..." Damien began hesitantly.

"N-No... I... I’m sorry, truly..." Augusto stammered.

"No, I’m the one who should apologize," Damien replied.

After a quick apology, Damien leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to Augusto’s forehead. The boy’s face turned bright red, his teary eyes wide with shock.

That should satisfy Yor... Damien thought, glancing over.

But Yor’s cheeks were still puffed out in displeasure.

Why?!

"Augusto too," Yor stated firmly.

Huh?

Damien quickly realized what Yor meant. With his romantic partners, Damien’s goodnight kiss was always reciprocated. But asking that of Augusto seemed like way too much.

Before Damien could find the words to protest, Augusto spoke up.

"U-Um, Master Damien... There’s no winning against Yor, is there?"

"Well... no, I guess not," Damien admitted.

"S-Sorry... may I have your hand?" Augusto asked, his voice trembling.

"My... hand?" Damien echoed, confused, but extended his hand toward Augusto as requested.

"I-I apologize... excuse me..." Augusto murmured.

After his polite apology, Augusto gently took Damien’s hand in his own warm, slightly calloused fingers. Slowly, he brought it to his lips and pressed a soft kiss to the back of Damien’s hand.

A small shiver ran down Damien’s spine.

"I-I’m so sorry! I shouldn’t have! Please forgive me! And—and please wash your hand immediately!" Augusto exclaimed, stumbling over his words as he panicked.

"N-No, um... thank you," Damien managed, though he was just as flustered.

Seeing their mutual confusion and embarrassment, Yor nodded in satisfaction, his expression one of great accomplishment.

Later that night, Damien lit the sleep-inducing incense in Augusto’s room, leaving him to rest after the long day.

It seemed that Augusto, likely tired from taking care of Damien all day, was already drowsy, so the incense might not have been necessary—but better safe than sorry.

Still, letting him work himself to exhaustion like that might have been a mistake, Damien reflected. Feeling a twinge of guilt, he returned to his own room, where Yor, rubbing his sleepy eyes, was waiting.

Damien gave Yor a goodnight kiss.

"Goodnight, big brother," Yor mumbled with a soft kiss on Damien’s cheek.

"Goodnight. See you tomorrow," Damien replied, watching as Yor waved sleepily and shuffled back to the servants’ quarters.

With that, Damien steeled himself for his final task of the day.

About thirty minutes after Yor had returned to the servants’ quarters, the participants of the nightly meeting gathered. Around the table sat the four retainers, Theo, Sebas, Isaac, and Lorenzo.

"Now that everyone’s here, let’s begin today’s report meeting," Leonide announced, placing tea and sweets in front of Theo and Lorenzo.

"First, we’d like to hear an update on Master Damien and Augusto," Leonide prompted.

Damien had anticipated being called on first. With his thoughts already organized, he began to report.

"Well, about that... the plan to spoil Augusto hasn’t made any progress at all today. Honestly, I’m at a bit of a loss about how to proceed. I’m sorry."

It was true that the plan had gone off track due to Yor’s interference, but since Yor’s intentions were pure, Damien couldn’t exactly complain. If anything, it was Damien’s own fault for failing to guide Yor effectively.

"I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts on how to adjust the plan moving forward—or if we even need to adjust it at all," Damien said, concluding his summary.

The group fell silent, each member deep in thought.

Leonide was the first to raise his hand.

"Master Damien, you mentioned ’not adjusting the plan’ as one of the options. Could you elaborate on your reasoning for that?"

"Well, that’s actually the part I’m still debating," Damien admitted. "But I was wondering if, instead of spoiling Augusto, today’s approach—where things unfolded more naturally—might actually be the better direction."

"You mean, like today—having Augusto take care of you, Master?" Lucian asked, raising his hand.

Damien nodded.

"Yeah. I mean, it looked like he was having a hard time being dragged around by Yor, but... he also seemed to be having a bit of fun. So I was thinking, maybe this isn’t such a bad idea?"

"That’s true," Lucian agreed. "During the experiment earlier, when Augusto was helping Yor assist you, he did look a little like he was enjoying himself."

Damien nodded his head thoughtfully. When Augusto walked with him, he always seemed nervous, constantly glancing at the other servants.
