Help, I'm in Another World and All the Men Are So Hot! [BL]-Chapter 310: The Office and Its Secrets
Well, Augusto was cute and handsome, so Damien decided to be cautious.
...
As they walked down the long corridor, Elyon stopped in front of a door.
This must be the office, Damien thought... but there appeared to be two more rooms further down.
If it was designed like Theo’s place, the office would be next to the head of the household’s bedroom, and there shouldn’t be anything beyond that...
"Well, here it is, the office," Elyon said.
It definitely looked like an office.
That meant one of the two rooms ahead was probably a bedroom, but what about the other?
Damien decided to sort out the office first and ask about the other rooms once they’d finished and rejoined everyone.
"Here, too, the same vines are carved," Elyon pointed out. "Just like before, this room can have a separate entry permission registered for a different person."
So, in other words, even within the private area, access to the office could be restricted even further.
"Right now, you, your lovers, and Sebas should be the ones registered," Elyon continued. "If you need to cancel the restrictions, just like before, you can touch the pillar."
Damien who understood the mechanism nodded his head.
He followed Elyon into the office.
Inside, it felt like a smaller version of Theo’s office.
Everything was just as it should be—desk, chairs, a table and sofa for receiving guests, bookshelves, and other furniture.
It was all ready to be used.
Of course, everything was empty for now, but once the necessary items were added, it would be good to go.
"Did you have all the furniture set up?" Damien asked.
"Yes," Elyon replied. "They made sure everything was ready in case you arrive at any time. They started with the personal rooms."
That made Damien wonder if the bedroom was also ready.
He ran his hand over the finely carved desk, enjoying the smooth and satisfying texture.
It seemed the person who carved the office furniture liked birds, as there were birds sculpted everywhere.
On the ceiling, there was a large magic crystal, which might be providing the light.
"Now then, let’s move on to the explanation of the defense mechanisms," Elyon said. "For now, sit in the chair at the desk, Damien."
Damien sat down in the chair in front of the desk, which was adorned with intricately carved birds, just as Elyon had instructed.
Ah, the cushion on the chair—was it made from the elven weave he’d been told about earlier? 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
It felt smooth and pleasant to the touch.
"Um, is it alright for all of us to listen in?" someone asked.
Indeed, considering they were about to hear an explanation about the security system, it might not be wise for everyone to know too much.
However, from Damien’s perspective, he actually preferred that Theo and the others hear it too—just in case something happened.
"I don’t think it matters," Elyon said. "The fundamental parts of the system can’t be activated without Damien’s magical power."
"In that case, I’d like everyone to hear it," Damien said.
It would make him feel much more at ease if they all knew.
With that, everyone gathered around the desk.
"Alright, then," Elyon said. "First, place your hand on the center of the desk. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your right or left hand—or even your foot, face, or any part of your body."
Damien didn’t see the need to place his hand anywhere else, so he placed his right hand on the desk.
He had expected something to happen, like the desk glowing, but nothing unusual occurred.
"You probably won’t feel any change," Elyon continued. "At this point, the system is already waiting for instructions. There are two commands it can accept: activation of the system and intruder repulsion."
"Huh? Intruder repulsion?" Damien asked, feeling uneasy at the sudden mention of a troubling word.
"As the name suggests, it’s a mechanism to repel any intruders who try to enter this room or the mansion," Elyon explained. "By saying ’fall,’ all living beings in the room, except for you, will instantly collapse. If you say ’fall, everyone,’ the effect will spread throughout the entire mansion."
"Would you like to try it?" Elyon asked, seeming rather amused.
Damien couldn’t imagine using such a terrifying command.
He shook his head vigorously, and Elyon laughed at his reaction.
However, the others were now looking at Damien as if they were seeing something dreadful.
"I don’t think that’s the kind of magic you should be using so casually..." Damien said.
"Well, it’s a defense mechanism," Elyon said with a shrug. "It’s necessary, right?"
"No, that’s true, but..."
Damien couldn’t deny that it was an effective security measure, but still.
He made a mental note to never utter those words out loud.
"Well, you should try it on someone as a test subject later. It’s a problem if you don’t understand the effects," Elyon suggested casually.
Damien considered that.
It made sense to try it out on someone to understand it better.
He’d find someone to do it later.
"Isn’t it... dangerous? I mean, it won’t harm their life, right?" Damien asked hesitantly.
"Yes," Elyon confirmed. "It doesn’t directly affect life. It only causes them to lose consciousness instantly. The only real risk is that they might injure themselves when they fall."
That was somewhat reassuring... maybe?
"Hm? Does it work on you too, Elyon?" Damien asked, suddenly wondering.
Elyon was an elf, and they were said to be very strong—would it work on him too?
"Of course. This defense system was originally designed to be used in the elven village," Elyon replied. "Even I, and even the older generation, would be knocked out by it."
Wow...
"As for the other function, it’s to summon an artificial spirit to maintain the system operation..." Elyon started to explain.
An artificial spirit?
Damien was curious, but what really caught his attention was how Elyon seemed hesitant to continue.
"What’s wrong, Elyon?" Damien asked, now feeling a little bit concerned.
