Chapter 54: Resting Comfortably

"Oh, no, it’s just that I found it refreshing since I’ve never had to worry about the gaze of servants before."

Wow, that nobility mindset again.

Come to think of it, in movies, nobles always had their servants help them get dressed.

"The reason it’s half and half is that it’s either too much trouble to do it yourself or too much trouble to have someone else do it for you. It’s just a matter of that degree."

"Like being embarrassed if someone sees you...?"

"Not really. When you’re a small child, everyone gets helped normally. Plus, you won’t have a servant of the opposite gender helping you. They’re also educated not to care."

"...I don’t think I could do either, being the one putting them on or the one getting them put on."

No matter which side he was on, it would definitely be embarrassing.

"Hehe, it’s just a matter of getting used to it. Would you like me to help you get used to it?"

A life where Theo put Damien’s pants on for him every day...

"...It would probably end up being longer that I’m not wearing pants, so I’ll pass."

"Hahaha!"

Theo’s cheerful laughter was adorable.

After their bath, Damien and Theo changed into their nightclothes and lay down on the bed together—much larger than a king size, so even side by side, there was still plenty of space.

Although they were having a good conversation, it mostly consisted of Theo asking questions about Earth, and Damien answering.

Damien thought it was impressive how the questions never seemed to stop; it was already past midnight.

Feeling the urge to urinate, he stood up to go to the bathroom. He thought it was about time to sleep, but when he returned to the bedroom...

"Suu... suu..."

Theo was fast asleep.

When he was awake, with a serious expression, he looked older, but in this defenseless state, he looked like a child of his age.

Well, either way, he was still a beauty, like a divine being.

"Hey, Theo! Don’t you want to go back to your room?"

Damien poked Theo’s cheek to wake him up, but all he did was frown and groan, showing no signs of waking.

At that moment, he looked even more like a small child.

Today seemed to be a day for observing Theo’s various expressions.

As he thought about this, he considered what to do.

Seeing Theo sleeping so peacefully made it feel wrong to wake him up forcibly, but leaving him to sleep here... letting him wake up in Damien’s room felt like it could be a problem.

"Guess there’s no helping it..."

Ring ring.

Muttering to himself, he picked up the bell to call Sebas and rang it.

...Huh? There hadn’t been any sounds from the common room where he’d been ringing the bell for a while.

Was it already late enough that there was no one on watch?

Knock knock knock.

Wondering about it, he waited for a short while before there was a knock on the door.

"Yes, come in."

"Excuse me. Do you need anything?"

Sebas always spoke in the same tone of voice and performed the same motions, like a repeated recording.

Damien wondered if he was some kind of robot.

Feeling sleepy, silly thoughts floated through his mind.

"Um, I’m sorry for calling you. Theo fell asleep here, and I wasn’t sure what to do."

Theo showed no signs of waking up even now.

Well, he had probably worn himself out today...

Damien was also feeling incredibly sleepy.

"I see. If you’d like, I can carry master Theo to his room."

"That would be great, thank you."

As Damien nodded, Sebas entered the bedroom without making a sound, lifting Theo with an astonishing gentleness that belied his old age.

"Then, Sir Damien, please rest comfortably. Excuse me."

Sebas bowed and started to leave the bedroom.

"Oh, I’ll open the door for you."

Thinking Sebas wouldn’t be able to open the door while carrying Theo, Damien followed him.

"Mmm... Damien..."

As Damien tried to pass by Sebas to reach the door, Theo let out a small murmur.

Had he woken up?

Tentatively, Damien leaned in to peek at Theo’s face that still cradled in Sebas’s arms, but there were no signs of him waking up.

It seemed to be just sleep talk.

"Hehe, Theo, I’m right here," he said.

Seeing Theo frown in his sleep made Damien find him incredibly cute, and he couldn’t help but gently stroke his cheek.

The furrow in Theo’s brow relaxed, and his face transformed into a peaceful expression.

"...Sir Damien."

"Ah! I’m sorry..."

Damien was startled by Sebas’s voice and quickly apologized.

He hadn’t considered that Sebas would speak up at all; he had almost forgotten he was even there, and he had inadvertently said something embarrassing in this situation.

"I understand this might be presumptuous, but... if Sir Damien wishes, it wouldn’t be a problem to spend time in this room with Master Theo..."

"Really? Is that so?"

Damien thought for sure that it would be unacceptable due to social norms.

"Yes. Our direct servants have neither eyes nor ears when it comes to Master Theo."

"So, please feel free to live with that in mind."

That reminded Damien of what Theo had said earlier.

If that’s the case, then perhaps he could stay like this for the night... but then a thought from Sebas’s words caught his attention.

"Direct servants."

So what about servants who aren’t direct? Do they have eyes and ears?

Damien still didn’t fully understand Theo’s position, but having a lover—especially a same-sex one—before marrying into a high-ranking noble family would surely be quite the scandal.

Upon reflection, it seemed like a situation that went beyond mere social norms.

"Um... Sebas, from your perspective, is it really alright for Theo to stay here?"

"Yes, if I may be so bold, I will guarantee it."

If Sebas, who appeared to have Theo’s complete trust, said that, then it was probably okay to believe him.
