Chapter 68: Awkward Mornings and New Beginnings

"I can’t believe he really allowed us to stay overnight..."

"See? I told you," Damien replied, a bit smug, while Theo still looked slightly dazed.

Damien couldn’t help but feel overjoyed at the thought that they’d be able to sleep together tonight.

"Well then..."

"Well then..."

They both started to say at the same time that it was time to go to bed.

"You know I’m not going to let you sleep tonight, right?"

Theo smiled brightly, almost mischievously.

To be honest, Damien was tired... but he wasn’t going to miss the chance to stay up and be close to Theo, so he nodded silently.

...

Damien felt sleepy.

"Good morning, Master Theo," Sebas greeted him.

"Good morning, Sebas."

"You seem quite refreshed today, Master Theo."

"Of course! I’m full of energy today!"

"Is that so? We must thank Sir Damien for that."

Damien could hear someone talking, but the exhaustion weighed heavy on him.

The sunlight felt too bright, so he pulled the covers over his head, blocking the morning light.

He wished Theo and Sebas would be quieter. He was still so sleepy...

...

The smell of tea suddenly drifted into the room, causing Damien to bolt upright.

"G-Good morning!"

Panicked, Damien reached under the blanket, grabbed his discarded pajamas, and quickly put them on. He sat up and greeted everyone.

At some point, Theo had moved to the table in the bedroom, where Sebas was serving him breakfast.

Damien realized he had completely overslept.

Even though only about three hours had passed since he’d finally fallen asleep, Damien forced himself to get up. He wasn’t wearing any underwear, but his oversized pajamas seemed to cover everything, so he figured it would be fine.

With that, he got out of bed and walked over to Theo and Sebas.

"Good morning... D-Dam—Damien!?"

"Good morning, Sir Damien," Sebas greeted calmly without looking his way.

Theo, however, when he turned around toward him, his face turned bright red with shock, his eyes wide open.

Damien noticed Theo staring intensely—particularly at his lower half—and followed his gaze downward.

His pajamas were see-through.

The morning light streaming through the window was completely exposing the sheer fabric of his nightwear, showing more of his body than he’d realized.

It was... unmistakable.

Damien immediately dove back under the covers, hiding his embarrassment.

...

"Now then, Master Theo, your schedule for today includes summarizing yesterday’s interview report and preparing the application for the extension of the research period in the morning. In the afternoon, we have scheduled the physical assessment of Sir Damien. Does that sound agreeable?"

"Theo, is that alright with you?" Damien responded, still bundled up in the sheets on the bed.

After his earlier scramble, he had managed to find his clothes, but his underwear was missing. He glared at Theo again, but Theo just looked away innocently, not offering any help.

With a small sigh, Damien accepted his fate. "Well, I’m fine with it, but..."

"What should I do this morning?" Damien asked. He wanted to help, but reports and applications didn’t seem like tasks he could handle, considering he couldn’t read.

"Damien, you could join me in my office for some tea, perhaps—" Theo began.

"Master Theo, I suggest Sir Damien takes the morning to rest," Sebas interjected, cutting off Theo’s suggestion.

"Sebas? But Damien can be with me while I work—" Theo protested.

"Master Theo, Sir Damien is exhausted. I believe you know exactly why that is, so please allow him to rest thoroughly this morning to be ready for the afternoon’s activities," Sebas said firmly, leaving no room for argument.

Though Theo seemed reluctant, Damien was grateful. Truthfully, he was still exhausted, and Theo’s energy despite their lack of sleep was baffling.

"But maybe Damien could rest in my office..." Theo muttered.

"That is out of the question," Sebas replied immediately.

"Then, I could stay here with him..." Theo tried again.

"Absolutely not. Do you believe Sir Damien will get proper rest with you beside him, especially while he’s working?"

Theo had no comeback for that and simply pouted in frustration, making a small, dissatisfied sound.

Damien could understand Theo’s desire to stay close—it even made him a bit happy—but he appreciated Sebas’s care. "Thank you, Sebas," Damien said, nodding in gratitude.

Theo, noticing Damien’s gratitude, stuck his bottom lip out in a small pout. Adorable.

"Come on, Theo," Damien said with a soft smile. "Let’s both do our best today. And if we do a good job... you know..." He made a teasing gesture, pretending to hug something close to his chest.

Even Damien could feel his own face flush a bit with the implication.

"Yes! I’ll do my best today too!" Theo responded enthusiastically, his previous sulkiness instantly replaced by excitement.

So cute.

...

After breakfast, Damien took advantage of Sebas’s suggestion and had a nice, long nap. He woke up feeling fully rested and enjoyed a delicious lunch. With his energy restored, he prepared for the day’s outing by donning the exercise clothes Sebas had prepared for him—knee-length shorts and a short-sleeved shirt.

It was his first time going outside in a while, so despite his energy, he felt a bit nervous as he waited for Theo to come and get him.

Since Damien would be leaving the room—likely still within the mansion’s grounds—he was certain people would see him.

"I hope I don’t mess anything up," he thought nervously, silently resolving to be on his best behavior.

Just as Damien finished lunch, Theo arrived to pick him up, wearing an outfit that was neither his priest robes nor his sleepwear, but something far more extravagant. It made Theo look about fifty percent more handsome.

Theo explained that the priest robes were essentially a uniform, only worn when performing his duties at the church. Today’s outfit was more casual wear, and he mentioned that Damien would soon be wearing something similar. Damien couldn’t help but feel a bit daunted—it looked complicated to put on.

Today, after a physical exam, Damien and Theo would be measuring various physical abilities in the mansion’s backyard. Led by Sebas, the two of them walked through the mansion together. Damien had worried about the servants’ gazes, but there was no need. The moment they approached, the servants stopped in their tracks, bowing deeply and remaining perfectly still until they had passed. Out of curiosity, Damien once glanced back, but the servants were still as statues.

It was eerie.
