Chapter 95: Discovery and Drama

It seemed they would be conducting magical experiments starting today, but what exactly would that entail?

Inside the magic experiment facility was a large room with a stone floor and reinforced walls and pillars. The overall impression was one of sturdy construction.

In this environment, it was clear what sort of experiments they would conduct...

"Today, we’ll be measuring various magical abilities you possess," Theo declared.

Of course...

Damien realized that today would be his last day. Images of himself being charred by fire magic flashed in his mind.

"Don’t worry, I won’t put you in any danger," Theo reassured him. "Well, I’ll keep it within a range that won’t hurt too much, so you can relax."

Sure, he thought. He already knew that wouldn’t be entirely true.

"Um... I’m sorry, but it might hurt a little," Theo added, the slight fog around him confirming Damien’s apprehensions.

"Let’s start with measuring how much magical power you have," Theo said, standing in front of a white pedestal topped with a crystal that Sebas and Leonide had brought in.

Magical power... Damien wondered if he even had any.

"Do I really have something like that?" he asked, perplexed.

He had lived his entire life without ever considering that he might possess any magical ability.

"You do," Theo replied confidently.

"Sure, but there are no records of people on Earth indicating that anyone could use magic," Damien acknowledged.

Right, magic didn’t exist on Earth, and naturally, he had never seen or heard of it outside of fiction.

But then he had a realization.

"But, Damien, you’ve used the magic of truth-seeing on me. So it’s almost certain that you have magical power," Theo explained.

Oh right, he had used magic.

He hadn’t consciously acknowledged it, as it had seemed to come naturally to him without thinking.

Feeling a rush of excitement, Damien found himself staring intently at his hands, wondering how he could possess magical abilities...

Could this mean he could wield some offensive magic too? something that every boy dreamed of?!

"Let’s test it quickly!" he exclaimed, feeling suddenly enthusiastic.

He placed his hand over the crystal, which was supposed to measure the magical power of the person who touched it.

This was thrilling!

"Please hold still for a moment. The magic power detection crystal will respond automatically," Theo instructed.

Nodding at Theo’s words, Damien waited for a few seconds.

The crystal began to glow faintly.

The light gradually intensified...

It grew brighter and brighter until it was almost too bright to look at directly.

"T-Theo?! Is this really okay? It’s shining so brightly!"

He feared that pulling his hand away might be dangerous, so he glanced at Theo and the others, but the light from the crystal was so blinding that he couldn’t even see them anymore.

How could it be so bright that it didn’t even cast shadows?

"Damien, it’s fine; just let go of your hand," Theo assured him.

Following Theo’s instruction, Damien lowered his hand and stepped back slightly.

As soon as he did, the light emitted from the crystal began to fade and soon completely vanished.

Damien looked at Theo and the others exitedly, only to find that everyone, except Sebas, had a look of shock on their faces.

Even Leonide’s usual composed demeanor had broken.

Could it be... had his time for magical domination finally arrived?

"Sebas, please check it just to be sure," Theo instructed.

"Understood," Sebas replied, focusing on the task.

Ignoring Damien’s excitement, Sebas placed his hand on the crystal.

Just like Damien, a few seconds later, the crystal began to glow faintly... and started to be encased in what looked like stone.

The stone grew and covered the crystal, stopping when it reached about an inch thick.

"I believe the functionality is normal," Sebas reported.

"I see..."

Theo regarded Sebas’s results with a contemplative expression.

Could this finally be the moment they had all been waiting for?

Was this going to lead to the realization that Damien was some sort of genius?

"I’ve never seen anything like this."

Here it came!

"I’ve never seen magical power without an attribute before."

Huh? What did that mean?

...

"Seeing is believing, so let’s have a look, shall we?"

With that, Theo placed her hand on the crystal.

After a few seconds of waiting, flames burst forth from the crystal, quickly spreading to envelop Theo within moments.

"Theo?!"

Damien rushed toward the engulfed Theo, tackling him around the waist and pulling him away from the crystal.

"Sebas! Someone call a doctor! Quick! A doctor!"

Where was the water?!

No, wait, before that, he needed to extinguish the flames if they had caught fire!

Panicking, he looked over Theo’s entire body, only to find that there were no scorch marks on his clothes—he hadn’t even caught fire. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Hadshe been okay since he pulled him away so quickly?

That intensity of heat didn’t seem like it could be so easily dismissed...

"Ouch, ouch, ouch..."

He felt a wave of relief wash over him, but confusion lingered until Theo’s voice snapped him back to reality.

Thank goodness... he was still alive...

"I-I’m sorry for startling you. The flames from the crystal are just illusions, so they’re not hot at all," he reassured him.

...Illusions?

Now that he thought about it, Theo hadn’t felt hot at all when he rushed toward him.

What was going on? That was a shocker.

What a hasty conclusion he had jumped to.

That was a mistake; he had messed up.

As those thoughts swirled in his mind, his mouth and tear ducts acted on their own.

"I-I’m just so glad you’re okay!" he exclaimed, th tears began to streaming down on his face uncontrollably.

Theo hurriedly comforted him as he cried like a waterfall.

...

It took about ten minutes for Damien to stop crying.

During that time, Theo held him close and gently stroked his back, but Damien thought it was only natural after worrying him so much.

Even now that he had calmed down, Theo was still hugging him from behind, and Damien thought it was fine to stay like this for the rest of the day.
