Chapter 163: Chapter 163 A visit to Charles.

A Ferrari drove into a huge hospital, and out of it came two figures: one with red hair and the other with brunette hair but with a hooded sweatshirt that covered his face.

Draven turned to look at Xylander, who gave him a thumbs up, assuring him that he was fine. Draven nodded and made his way into the hospital, stopping at the receptionist stand.

He was attacked by the antiseptic smell the hospital was always famous for. Glancing around, he approached a nurse who was scribbling on a notepad.

Grunting, he got the lady’s attention, whose eyes fixed on him immediately while assessing. Xylander, who knew what his presence would cause—since he was already infamous—just stood in a corner watching. He never wanted to come, but with Draven helping him out and the latter just wanting to see his friend, he decided to follow him to ensure it happened, even though he wasn’t really doing anything useful in the hospital.

"Good morning, I am a friend of a patient by the name Charles McCall and would like to pay him a visit," Draven stated. The nurse, with a weird look, kept gawking at him, eyes assessing his beautiful features.

What a dreamy lad, she muttered to herself while forcing her eyes not to wander down.

"Are you lost? I said that I want to see a friend of mine," he repeated, now a bit irritated.

The nurse flashed a smile and flaunted her hair.

"My bad, I just got distracted by something sweet." She winked at him, but Draven gave her a blank look devoid of expression.

What the heck is this bitch saying? Is she deaf? 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"Do you want me to alert the manager? Because I don’t know why I keep repeating my words and you’re wasting my time." He barked so loudly that the nurse was forced to stand up in embarrassment. Not just because his voice was loud, but all around the waiting room everyone now began to look at the nurse in a strange way.

"Okay, I will take you there myself," she volunteered—still a ploy to continue to admire him—but Draven didn’t want her close to him anymore, so he bluntly rejected the offer.

"Thanks for the kind offer, but mind your work before you get fired." Draven deadpanned and looked to where she pointed for him to follow. With an aloof expression, he walked right through the passage and away from the reception room.

Now, reaching the ward, his heart began to beat so loudly. This would be the first time he was coming to see him in so long. The other time, his situation was so critical and terrible that he had to be transferred to another hospital, so this was his first time coming here to see him after the transfer.

His best friend, Charles. How lonely must staying here have been for him? Bedridden and unable to walk for weeks now.

Finally stopping at the door, he opened it and met a figure on an enormous bed with several pipes and connectors on his face and nose. His face was bandaged too, from the head to the neck, showing no skin.

He gasped, watching his friend lay stiff like a vegetable on the bed, all his glamour gone. The liveliness faded as if it was never there—all this contributed by Matteo Valez, that evil being who stole their joy.

Draven staggered close by, fell to his knees, and buried his face on Charles’s legs, which were all pale and warm.

"Charles, I miss your troublesome face and chatter so much. Please come back to me." Draven pleaded. He was becoming scared because previously it was said that his condition was a result of internal bleeding and damage to his face, which was going to need surgery.

Surgical operations in some places and plastic surgery on his face. He accepted plastic surgery but frowned when he realized his friend was going to undergo a change forever—that he wouldn’t be the same person he knew again—and that crushed his soul.

"Please get better. We are trying to make everything right again. I want you to have what you lost with us and get back your place beside your best friend. Please, I miss you so bad." Draven muttered silently, then said a little prayer and turned, meeting Xylander’s head up.

Xylander didn’t show an expression either, although he looked at the condition of the young man and grimaced at how sickly he looked now. It was really bad. They really did him dirty.

"I’m sorry for this. If I had protected all of us, this wouldn’t have happened to either of us. Now look at where we are—lost and stranded." Xylander hissed. His own concern was that Nicole had come again with a new plan against him, and he was truly screwed.

Could Draven help him out? Would he remain in hiding forever, never to come out again? He looked haunted and scared of the possibility that Daniel and he wouldn’t have that happy ending he had ever dreamed of.

A vacation down a remote island, a place where no one knows about, only him and his boys with Daniel and their kids, could enjoy.

That was his dream, his wish, but as it seems, that was a fading memory.

"Something happened, Xylander, that might be in our favor," Draven announced.

Xylander turned to him, face tensed up. He doesn’t like any sort of new reports like this because nothing comes out from it other than bad news, so seeing Draven actually wear a little smile, he began to have a little shred of hope.

Maybe all hope hadn’t been lost and there was still something that could be done, so he looked up to him and waited for Draven to tell him what the issue was.

"I’m hearing, Draven. What is it?" he asked, silently praying it was at least a good turn out.

Draven saw the complicated look and tired eyes and sighed.

"Nicole Shelton is now confirmed dead, and she was never pregnant, so all of that was false." It was like a pack of ice blocks fell on Xylander’s head.

He staggered and held on to a nearby wall, looking completely shaken.

How did it all happen? Why the unexpected turn out?

"What caused it?" Xylander asked, now mouth agape, and Draven came closer and whispered.

"Heard she committed suicide, but report is saying it’s not suicide but instead she was killed by someone else. Now the problem with that theory is that every track was cleaned and covered, so nothing could be found or traced—except that Nicole fell off the skyscraper and died right on the spot." Draven rendered the whole news, and Xylander’s brain stopped functioning for a second.

"Fuck!! That’s one messed up shit...."
