Chapter 203: Chapter 203 In deep sleep.

In the city hospital, Ruth quickly alighted from the car used to convey Daniel, her steps fast and urgent. Xylander quietly came out from the other side, Daniel cradled securely in his arms like something fragile that could shatter at the slightest mistake.

With Ruth leading the way, Xylander followed behind, passing through several wards. Curious eyes trailed them. Some instantly recognized him, whispering among themselves. The gossipers wasted no time, already taking pictures and posting them online.

As expected, the usual mad fanbase began to rage over what had happened to their king, sparking another long debate across social media.

Finally stopping at the last ward, Ruth pushed the door open and entered. Xylander followed closely. She pointed at the neatly made bed, and without needing further instruction, Xylander gently laid Daniel down on it. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Daniel didn’t even move.

He remained completely motionless. If not for the faint rise and fall of his chest and the soft breath escaping his nose, it would have seemed like he was already dead.

Xylander sank down at the side of the bed, gripping Daniel’s hand gently while caressing it with a tenderness filled with fear.

"You people just can’t stay away from trouble, can you? At this point, can’t you all just leave this town?" Ruth muttered, bringing out her stethoscope to check Daniel’s breathing.

Xylander knew she was going to say that, yet he couldn’t even muster a reply. They were all devastated. And if by any chance they survived this last hurdle, there was no way he was staying in this city again—no matter the cost.

Unaware of the storm brewing inside him, Ruth leaned closer to listen for a heartbeat. Her brows slowly furrowed. His heartbeat was faint... weakening... almost like he was giving up.

"Okay, Xylander, just calm down and let me run further tests," Ruth said, trying to sound composed.

She drew a blood sample with a syringe, then checked his blood pressure and ran quick examinations for any underlying complications. When she was done, she stepped out of the ward to process the tests.

At the doorstep, she paused and turned back.

"How about Alexander? He hasn’t contacted me in a while. Is he okay?" she asked.

Xylander kept his expression neutral, one that revealed nothing, and simply shrugged.

"I don’t know why he hasn’t contacted you yet. But rest assured, he is fine," he replied.

Ruth frowned slightly. "That asshole... I can’t believe him. Fine, give me a few minutes. I’ll be back."

And she left them alone.

The moment the door shut, Xylander’s stoic mask shattered.

He began to cry.

Life couldn’t be any less merciful to them. Any shred of happiness that tried to bloom in their lives was either snatched away or brutally wiped out.

When they finally had that family... the dream home... Daniel couldn’t even live properly to enjoy it. And with the pain he had endured since childhood—

Yes, Xylander knew it was bad. But how terrible was it that Daniel went blank again, even lashing out at Draven? And now look at where he had landed just because his memories resurfaced and tangled his mind.

No matter how powerful he, Xylander Wolfe, was, he couldn’t take away Daniel’s pain.

How could his soulmate be hurting so deeply and he couldn’t even share the agony?

It was unfair.

To love someone so much and still be helpless when they are drowning.

His tears fell freely, staining the white bedsheet. Daniel’s hands were becoming colder, trembling faintly.

Panicking, Xylander rushed out into the corridor, searching desperately for Ruth. Thank goodness she was already walking back toward the ward.

"Xylander, why are you out here? What happened?" she asked, hurrying inside when she saw his pale face.

He tried to speak, but his body was shaking violently. No words came out.

"It’s okay. I will help him. Nothing will happen to Daniel, I promise you," Ruth assured firmly.

She checked his temperature and realized it was dropping dangerously. Quickly, she adjusted the blanket, covering him properly, then connected him to a life-support monitor. After stabilizing that, she administered a series of injections.

For one terrifying minute, Xylander stopped breathing himself. He felt that if he exhaled, Daniel would disappear.

But after a tense silence, Ruth sighed, wiping the sweat from her forehead.

"He’s out of the danger zone for now. But Xylander... what I can tell you is that he is in an acute coma. A deep one. It was triggered by a mental breakdown."

She tried to speak slowly, gently.

But the opposite effect took place.

Xylander’s muscles stiffened. His face turned deathly pale as he staggered backward, slamming against the door.

"Wait—what are you saying?" he interrupted sharply. "No. No, don’t say that."

Daniel wasn’t in a coma.

He was going to wake up.

Daniel was what he needed. Without him, how was he supposed to function? How would his life move forward?

"Let me finish, please! It’s not the end. At least rest assured—he will wake up," Ruth insisted.

Xylander shook his head violently.

"You’re wrong. So wrong. Fine—tell me when he’s waking up then, if it’s not bad. Tell me when? Four years? Ten? Talk to me, Ruth! Our family—the kids—they’re waiting for us to return. I can’t go back empty-handed and tell them their father is in a coma. That won’t make sense!"

He was almost convulsing as he shouted. His throat burned from dryness, but water was the least of his concerns.

"No. This coma is a result of psychological abuse he has endured for years. His brain couldn’t handle it anymore—it shut down. And I’m afraid... if he doesn’t face his fears inside there and fight through the psychological damage, he might stay longer."

With those words, Xylander understood one thing.

He was completely helpless.

It was up to Daniel now.

Shaking his head in denial, he collapsed onto the floor, ruffling his hair, yelling Daniel’s name repeatedly.

"Xylander, calm down, please—"

But he rolled onto his side, refusing to stand.

"I’m not leaving here until he comes back to me. And I’m not eating anything."

Ruth thought he was exaggerating, but Xylander didn’t budge. He remained on the cold floor, shivering slightly, clutching Daniel’s dangling hand.

"No... I must call his partners. I can’t let him suffer like this and you fall sick too," Ruth muttered anxiously.

She stepped out into the corridor and dialed Draven’s number since Alexander’s phone wasn’t going through.

To her dismay, Draven’s phone went straight to voicemail.
