Chapter 180: Chapter 180: Return to Caldwen

An hour later.

The helicopter landed on the helipad of Caldwen Private Hospital.

The medical team, who had been waiting, immediately pushed a stretcher briskly toward them.

Julian Grant personally carried Josephine Thompson onto the stretcher.

"Be careful."

"Rest assured, President Grant."

His fingertips never left her hand throughout.

It was only when the stretcher was pushed into the VIP ward that he breathed a half sigh of relief.

The ward had already been arranged.

The spacious room was filled with fresh flowers, and the window offered the most beautiful sea view of Caldwen. If not told it was a hospital, one might think it was a five-star hotel.

The nurse swiftly attached the heart monitor.

The doctor carefully reviewed the previous test reports and conducted a detailed check once more: "President Grant, Miss Thompson’s aconitine has been mostly neutralized by the serum. However, her myocardial enzymes are slightly elevated, so she needs to stay for a few days for observation; if there are no abnormalities, she can be discharged."

Julian Grant listened, his tense shoulders and back finally relaxing completely, "That’s good."

"I don’t care what treatment methods you use, you must ensure her safety."

"Rest assured, President Grant."

After the doctor left.

Julian Grant sat by the bedside, gazing at her tenderly yet worriedly.

Josephine leaned against the pillow, her complexion better than it was on the mountain, though her eyes remained somewhat dazed and tired.

"Josephine, are you thirsty? Would you like some water?" He picked up the warm water next to him, dipped a cotton swab, and wiped her lips.

Josephine gently shook her head, her gaze falling on the dark circles under his eyes.

He hadn’t slept since yesterday.

On the helicopter earlier, he had been clutching her hand, his knuckles turning white.

"Julian, you don’t...need to stay with me all the time; you should go rest for a while."

Her voice was still a bit hoarse, "Besides, the archaeological team..."

"Professor Warren is overseeing things over there, nothing will go wrong."

Julian interrupted her, his tone allowing no contradiction, "Your only task now is to get better; don’t think about anything else."

He paused, then softened his tone, "The poison in the smuggling tunnel was strange; if you force yourself again, you might not be so lucky next time."

Josephine said nothing, merely gazing out the window.

The sky above Caldwen was bright blue and clear, vastly different from the misty Mount Aethel.

But she couldn’t shake off the image of the Lotus Pattern on the bronze cup and the unknown secrets within the smuggling tunnel.

"Thinking about the Lotus Pattern Box?"

"Hmm."

Julian sighed with a touch of exasperation in his tone, "Look at you, almost losing your life yet still thinking about those random things."

"No more thinking; just focus on recuperating."

Josephine was slightly startled, a ripple of unspoken emotion rising within her.

He truly...

was very, very good to her.

"I’m just a bit anxious." She whispered defensively.

"The Lotus Pattern on the bronze cup resembles the base of the Lotus Pattern Box in my dad’s notes. If we could find the complete box, perhaps we’d know how to open the Jade Bone Box..."

Before she finished her words.

Julian pressed his hand gently on her forehead, urging her to lie down: "Lie down."

"You’re not allowed to think about anything."

Though his words were domineering, Josephine wasn’t angry.

She knew he was genuinely worried about her.

She could still recall him calling her name with red eyes on the mountain.

"Understood." She obediently closed her eyes, her voice softer, "Now you go rest too; you look like you have panda-like dark circles."

Julian chuckled, didn’t move, simply took her hand, and massaged it lightly in his palm.

Her hand was still cold, likely due to the recent poisoning.

"I’m not tired; I’ll stay with you, waiting until you’re better." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

Josephine no longer urged him.

She knew his character, once he decided something, nothing could sway him.

She leaned against the pillow, comfortably resting her eyes.

She used to think of him as a notorious figure, flamboyant and domineering. But spending time with him these days revealed a gentle and meticulous side.

"Julian." She suddenly spoke.

"Hmm?" Julian looked at her with deep affection.

"Thank you."

Julian raised his head, met her gaze, paused, then smiled, "Thank you for what? I’m yours, thanking is being too formal."

Josephine smiled back and said nothing more, only lightly grasping his hand in return.

The sunlight streamed through the window, falling on their clasped hands warmly.

Perhaps, as he said, she should first heal her body. Otherwise, everything would be for naught.

After Josephine fell asleep.

Julian sniffed himself.

A scent of sweat mixed with odor.

During the days spent on the mountain, he hadn’t had a chance to bathe.

He felt that he smelled.

Taking advantage of her sleep.

He quickly went to the bathroom, removed all his clothes, and threw them away.

Then, he carefully took a shower, shaved, and changed into clean, fresh clothes.

...

An hour later.

He had just finished showering.

Josephine had also awoken from her sleep.

Julian came out of the bathroom, his hair still wet, holding a towel to dry it.

"Did you just shower?"

"Yes."

Josephine felt much better, only the earthy smell from the mountain still lingering on her.

Along with the thin sweat upon waking, she felt somewhat uncomfortable.

"I want to take a shower too."

Upon hearing this, Julian’s brow furrowed slightly, "Just woke up and want to shower? The doctor said you need complete rest now, absolutely can’t catch a cold."

"But my body feels sticky and uncomfortable." Josephine tugged at her clothes, feeling utterly uneasy.

While on the mountain, it didn’t bother her.

But upon returning to the city, she suddenly felt completely uncomfortable.

"Then I’ll ask the doctor to see if you can shower."

He turned to find the nurse.

Five minutes later.

Julian returned, carrying a clean bathrobe and towel: "The doctor said you could shower, but only for ten minutes, and raise the water temperature. I’ll help you adjust it."

Josephine didn’t expect him to have prepared a bathrobe as well, her cheeks warming: "I can manage myself."

"You’ve just recovered from a fever; standing is already difficult, how can you manage alone?" Julian, without a word, helped her sit up, and placed non-slip slippers beside the bed, "I’ll be outside; call me if you need anything."

The bathroom had been inspected by him and prepared with non-slip mats, and the water heater’s temperature was adjusted.

Josephine slowly walked inside, using walls for support; when closing the door, she heard Julian’s voice outside: "If the water cools, call me; don’t bear it."

She responded softly, turning on the tap.

The warm water flowed down, washing away the dust and fatigue, easing the weakness from the poisoning.

She looked at her pale face in the mirror.

For the past half-year, she barely looked into the mirror.

Even looking at herself, she had become unfamiliar.

As she looked, a feeling of a world apart arose.

"Forget it; don’t overthink. Wherever fate pushes us, we go."

Josephine took off her clothes, quietly showering.

Wanting to wash away all grime from her body.

Ten minutes later.

She had shampooed her hair, about to turn off the water.

Suddenly feeling dizzy, her hand lost its grip, nearly colliding with the wall.

"Bang." The showerhead fell to the ground.

Outside the door.

Julian heard the sound, immediately knocking on the door in alarm, "Josephine, are you okay?"
