Herald of Steel-Chapter 1489: Queen and Princess (Part-3)
As soon as Lady Parthia heard Princess Camelia connect the sounds coming from that room with her presence in the room, the mature mother felt a bout of fear, unlike anything in her life.
Even when Alexander had led his conquering army past the Tibian capital’s walls and taken over the palace, letting the fate of her family hang in the balance, the regal queen was probably still not as scared as she was now.
It was a soul freezing fear that nearly paralyzed her as soon as her eyes met her daughter’s crystal clear, limpid pair, and her mind went blank.
And at that point, if the princess had only said- ’Was that you, mother?’ in a suspicious or even doubtful tone, we might have seen the first time Lady Parthia spontaneously fainting, if not suffering a mild heart attack.
But fortunately for everyone involved, things did not take that dark turn.
Rather, the still innocent and verdant Camelia came up with an excuse on her own, never even considering that it was actually her own mother’s joyous, vulgar cries that she had mistaken for another.
After all, this was her mother…. how many children would dare imagine such a thing about their own parents?
In fact, in the maiden’s eyes, due to Lady Parthia’s teaching and upbringing, she always appeared like a pure, untouched jade, eternally unmarred by any filth. The girl probably did not even think her mother had sex at her age.
Thus, it was really impossible for her to suddenly equate her always elegant and sophisticated mother to a prurient lady capable of making those kinds of bestial roars that were coming from that door.
Hence Cameila naturally came up with the next best explanation, i.e.- her mother was somewhere else, a ’fact’ she let her know on her own.
While, being presented with such a lifeline, Lady Parthia, of course grasped it like a drowning man clutches at a straw and instantly agreed with heavy nods,
"Ahhh… hahaha, yes, yes, I do recall I was suddenly moved to the next room! Ahhh…so that was what happened! No, wonder, no wonder! Ohhh! I must have been too deep asleep to notice. How… how scandalous!"
Without doubt, Lady Parthia’s answer was very forced and lacked any of her usual sophistication, only parroting many of her daughter’s own words. Worse still, her face had a cramped, almost toad like ugly smile, as if her tummy was hurting really bad.
If there was anybody else at the dining table right now, they would have instantly spotted that something was fishy.
However, Lady Parthia once again got lucky here… there was only the naive princess here, possessing an absolute blindspot for her.
Camelia simply glanced over her mother’s answer, no questions asked, just joining her nods in agreement with her,
"Mmmm… so that is what happened! *Tsk*, what a perverted man! To do such immoral things when Royal Mother was in the room right next door!
"..." Lady Parthia simply gave her disdainful daughter a pallid look, hiding all emotions.
"By the way, Camelia, when did you approach the door? Because I must say, I talked to the pasha for quite a while after he entered. I originally thought he came there to discuss various matters." Then out of nowhere Lady Parthia suddenly posed, looking intrigued.
Of course here, ’talks’ was euphemism for something very different- it referred to all the foreplay the diabolical four had done to her on the couch prior to her ultimate conquest.
But basically, Lady Parthia was really trying to figure out exactly when her daughter had caught them in the act.
Because there was still the smallest part of her that was still reluctant to accept that she had been heard.
At the back of her mind, there was a tiny yet energetic voice that claimed Camelia had really heard Lady Nanazin’s shouting, only that Lady Parthia was too exhausted to remember the lady crying as such.
"Ahhh… did you talk to Alexander tonight" While the unexpected revelation quickly sent a shock through the unaware princess’s mind, a hint of suspicion penetrating her voice.
After all, a man and a woman… meeting in a room in the middle of the night…. with strange sounds soon following out of it afterwards…
Even someone was blindingly trusting as Camelia could not truly wave such a damning info away.
"Ahhh that…" However, just as expected, this tiny seed was immediately blasted away by Lady Parthia even before it got to hit the soil, as the clever lady hurriedly brushed her hands,
"Yes, we talked quite a bit in Lady Cambyses’s room…. about various things like the recent rainfall, the possibility of flooding, and even about choosing someone from our family to meet the Adhanian king."
"The pasha is apparently to set for the capital and wants one of us to accompany him. I should not have to tell the importance of representing our royal family, right?"
"...." A look of realization as well as relief bloomed in the princess’s face as soon as she heard this, with her head quickly turning to the nearby window just like her mother pointed.
Indeed she could see the drizzling rainfall and already guessed the state of the city- the sight was nothing new for the princess. She had seen similar things plenty of times in Parthenon too, streets waterlogged by rain and the Diannu river overflowing.
So Princess Camelia, who of course knew of her mother’s position in Alexander’s inner council found it very reasonable for Alexander to ask for her mother’s advice.
Hence, the thing that quickly caught her eye was rather the matter of Alexander’s departure, as turning visibly curiously, she excitedly posed with both palms spread on her table,
"Royal mother, then are we going to Adhan? Do you know what the so called god king looks like? I heard his palace is built out of solid gold and there is a pond of honey! Is it true? Can we see it?"
"....." Lady Parthia at first took a bit of time to send her daughter a simple, cool look.
Some might see this as Camelia being a bit too excited or even somewhat immature.
However as a mother, Lady Parthia quite well understood where the excitement about this was coming from.
As their much, much larger and stronger neighbor, the king of Adhania had been always the subject of great fascination among the Tibian people.
Many hated, admired, and most of all fantasized about him.
And it seemed the youngest princess was also no different. After all that she had heard and read in books, she very much wanted to see this mythical figure and verify the many absurd rumors for herself.
The only slight hitch was…. this was only an excuse that Lady Parthia had come up on the spot.
Alexander actually had no intention of taking any of them to Adhan to make such a spectacle.
This was because, for one- he felt it was very distasteful to show off the defeated men and women like so… as if they were some kind of inanimate trophy. He had done it once during the triumph to entertain his people, and that was enough.
But the much stronger reason number two- he wanted to send a political statement to Ptolomy, i.e.- by not bringing the defeated Tibian Royal family in front of him in chains, he wanted to show the whole world that the triumph of Tibias was his- Alexander’s alone!
This was very much breaking away from the tradition that all conquered territory was achieved only through the grace and blessing of the god king.
Alexander wanted to deal with Ptolomy as equals.
And Lady Parthia subtly understood all this as revealed by Alexander during their short pillow talk this morning.
But she still said this so to her daughter to manufacture the image that she had a great need to meet the man in the dead of night no matter what.
And when her daughter took the bait without question, it gladdened her heart immensely.
Thus her gaze became much softer, and gently patting her on the back, Lady Parthia put her excitement down with a light smile,
"Silly daughter, how can a girl represent our family? We would be the laughingstock of the world if we womenfolk went to meet the king. Or do you want to go become a present for Ptolomy?"
"....." Camelia instantly went from red with shame to ashen with fear, visibly shivering at the innuendo.
Given what she was just complaining about, and combined that with the tidbits ’rumors’ she had picked from meeting with the other local noble ladies, the maiden did not dare imagine what went inside that golden palace.
However, even still, as a hot blooded curious sixteen year old, she felt a bit disappointed at having her dreams and curiosity dashed.
"Royal… Mother… can’t I… accompany Alexander as his mistress?" The poor princess thus mused out with some difficulty, looking very pitiful.

"...." Lady Parthia did not really bother to reply because the answer was pretty obvious.
"When did you come to see me, Camelia?" Instead, she re-iterated her previous question.
"Ahhh!" And remembering she had gotten sidetracked, the princess quickly noted, "It was around midnight! The rumbling thunder broke my sleep and I really wanted to see you."
