Hero or Villain, Both-Chapter 73: Verdant Forest (8)
Chapter 73: Verdant Forest (8)
With these Medium Grade Spirits here, it was easy to understand why the Primary Grade Spirits were so scared.
It might have been a single rank, but this was a large gap when it came to spirits.
It was like going from an infant to a teenager in terms of human development.
These Medium Grade Spirits were just that much stronger than the Primary Grade Spirits.
But still, they didn’t have the ability to communicate properly with people.
These spirits were still considered young even though they were Medium Grade Spirits. It was only High Grade Spirits and higher grade spirits that could communicate properly with people.
Still, there was no need for them to communicate since a contract would connect the minds of the person and the spirit. Once they were connected, there was no real need for spoken words.
Seeing these Medium Grade Spirits gather around me, I raised my hand for them before saying, "Do you want to form a contract with me?"
It was important for one to make the first move since spirits were quite shy in the first place. It was the main reason why they didn’t appear in front of people normally.
Right now, it was all because of the blessing of the Tree of Life that they showed themselves.
The Medium Grade Fire Spirit was the one that responded first as it came down to my hand.
Once it made contact with my hand, I said, "Pyro, is that alright with you?"
The Medium Grade Fire Spirit suddenly burst into light when it heard this, but I didn’t panic at all. Rather, there was a smile that appeared on my face since I could feel the connection that was forming.
It seemed like it quite liked the name that I gave it.
Then came to the wind spirit followed by the light spirit.
"Aero."
"Lumine."
Both of them had similar reactions to the fire spirit after hearing these names, though they didn’t glow as intensely as the fire spirit did.
Still, the connection between us was more than enough to show that they accepted the contract.
Only after all three of these contracts were formed did the dark spirit come forward.
It seemed like it was afraid as it approached me, but it eventually did touch my hand like the other two spirits.
"Nox."
The reaction that the dark spirit had was different from the other spirits as it seemed to grow even dimmer after hearing this name. But the connection that formed showed that it liked it and it formed a contract with me.
Once I formed the contract with all four of these spirits, I flipped my hand around.
As if they understood my will, the four spirits floated over to my palm and spun around as if they were dancing.
After letting them do this for a bit, I flipped my hand back around and all four of them disappeared without a trace.
However, the four pointed star on the back of my hand was more than enough to show that the contract was still there. That and the connected feeling that was inside of me that would allow me to summon them at any moment.
Though that star soon disappeared without a trace.
Not long after the star disappeared, the rest of the spirits and even the dome of green light disappeared as well.
When I came out of the dome of green light, I found that I was the last one that came out.
Nimue and Rania seemed to have already finished their baptism before me and had gathered around to see what happened to me.
Once I came out, Qilynn asked, "How was it? What did you obtain?"
Nimue was the first one to show her power as she suddenly gave a snap and a flame appeared in her hand.
It was clear that she had contracted with a fire spirit, though it was only a Primary Grade Fire Spirit.
Rania went next as she gathered a ball of water in the air after raising both her hands.
This was clearly a Primary Grade Water Spirit.
Once they were done showing off, the two of them turned to look at me.
With the way that they were looking at me, it was clear that they were expectant of what I had to show.
I couldn’t help revealing a faint smile when I saw them looking at me like this.
But it wasn’t just them that was looking at me like this, it was the other high elves that were also looking at me with expectant looks on their faces.
After all, they knew that the longer the baptism lasted, the stronger the effects.
This was usually in the form of more spirits that a high elf contracted with.
Rarely, it was a sign that there was a higher grade spirit contracted.
But the looks on their faces seemed a bit contained, showing that they didn’t believe that it was a higher grade spirit.
Since they wanted a show, I gave them a show.
Raising my hand, I created a ball of fire just like Nimue had done.
The moment that Nimue saw this, her eyes lit up as if she was happy to see this.
But on the other side, it seemed like Rania was disappointed seeing this ball of fire.
It seemed like she would have rather seen me create a ball of water.
However, that wasn’t the end of the show.
The ball of fire that I created became stronger and stronger until it became a roaring ball of fire that was five times as big as before.
The others didn’t seem to understand why this ball of fire was growing stronger until Umero suddenly said, "A wind spirit, huh?"
At that, the other high elves noticed that there was a subtle breeze in the air.
This breeze seemed to be concentrated around the ball of fire that I had created, feeding wind into the flames.
It seemed that they understood why the flames were growing stronger once they felt this breeze.
Only the surprise was far from over.
