Chapter 76: Sacred Shell (1)

"Sir Jurad, we’re almost there."

I had been a bit spaced out since I had been cursing the high elf avatar for his school life drama.

He was a handsome high elf that was surrounded by a ton of beautiful elf and high elf girls that were all trying to get his attention.

How could I not be jealous when seeing something like this?

But I pulled myself back to look at Amy before saying with a nod, "Alright, do you want me to lead the way or do you want to bring us in?"

Amy knew that I was being considerate to her, but she shook her head in the end before saying, "There’s no need for that. They should have already received the news, so it would actually be best if you lead the way."

I gave a simple nod without saying anything else.

Either way worked, but there was Amy’s position as the saintess to think about.

Only it didn’t seem like she cared about that with how she gave up the lead to me without hesitation.

Once the carriage arrived, I was the first one that came out.

The priests that had been waiting for us to arrive were surprised to see me come out first.

But it didn’t seem like they let this affect them as they saw Amy following behind me.

When they saw this, they immediately put the two and two together to figure out that I was the hero that everyone was talking about.

Otherwise, there was no way that the saintess Amy would be walking behind me.

None of the priests actually said anything to me though. Instead, it was one of the important looking people that had been standing in the back that came forward to greet us.

"Welcome guests that have come from afar. We’ve been waiting for you."

There was a friendly look that was on his face, but I could see that there was a different look in his eyes.

The way that he looked at me was as if there was something that he wanted.

It was the same as when he looked at Amy.

Still, I didn’t let this get to me as I simply said, "I’m here on the orders of the archpriest and the king to take the trail of the hero’s relic stored here."

This priest didn’t seem bothered at all by the fact that I brought up the archpriest and the king. He just simply said with a calm smile, "Of course, we’ll lead you there right away. That is our duty."

Then without even caring if we were following or not, he turned around and led the way into the temple.

With the way that he moved, it really didn’t seem to make sense since there was no mistaking the way that he had looked at us previously.

It was clear that he wanted something from us...

But it soon made sense why he didn’t say anything.

"Please take some time to rest before you go into the trial. We’ve prepared plenty of food and such for you all, as well as prepared places for you to sleep."

It seemed that he wasn’t actually keen on seeing us enter, but rather he wanted to keep us inside of this temple as long as possible.

This was the kind of person that I hated dealing with the most.

He wasn’t someone that plotted against you openly, he was someone that plotted behind your back. This was the kind of person where it would be hard to deal with since he had plenty of different ways to make you feel bad about saying anything.

Though I still didn’t really know what kind of objective he was going for.

In the end, I decided to play along.

It was all because we needed to rest.

It was a fact that we were tired after our journey here and it wasn’t as if the trial would be an easy matter. The trial was something that no one had passed so far and there was a reason for that.

So it was best that we were fully rested before I went to take that trial.

Once we finished the food that was given to us, we didn’t waste any time heading to the land of dreams.

When morning came, the bishop actually came to wake us up.

I found out that the one that had led us in yesterday was actually the bishop that was in charge of this temple where the hero’s relic was sealed.

Only when he came to wake us up this morning, it really seemed like there was something that was different about him. It didn’t seem like he had the same tone to his voice as before.

At the same time...

"Please follow me. I’ll take you to the trial now."

Yesterday, he had been stalling for time as if he wanted to keep us away from the trial for as long as possible. But today, he brought us to the entrance to the trial as soon as we woke up.

It really seemed like something had changed...

I couldn’t help looking at Amy since she was the only one that could have actually done something.

She looked away at first as if she didn’t want to acknowledge what she had done, but she eventually folded under the pressure of my gaze and told me the truth.

"He just simply doesn’t want to remain the bishop in this place any longer."

I was a bit surprised to hear this, but it wasn’t as if I couldn’t understand why the priest would think this.

The temple that this second hero’s relic was in was actually quite far from the rest of the world. It was a place that was isolated all because of the trial for the hero’s relic, so it couldn’t be placed near other places.

"But will you be fine making that kind of promise?" I couldn’t help asking in a worried voice.

There was a smile that appeared on Amy’s face when she heard this before she said in a teasing voice, "Are you worried about me."

I didn’t say anything as I kept looking at her with the same worried look.

Amy’s expression softened seeing this before she said, "Don’t worry about me, I won’t have a problem making this kind of promise. I am the saintess after all, I do have some influence."
