Chapter 56 - Stay Away From Me

Chapter 56- stay away from me

Logan's POV

"Oooh, now, all of a sudden, you can't talk?"

Tyler asked with a smile.

But that smile—it wasn't real. It was a mask, a cover for the fury simmering just beneath his skin. I knew it too well.

"Tyler, please, listen to me," I pleaded.

His arms crossed, his posture rigid. "Okay!!! I'm all ears."

I swallowed hard, forcing the words out. "I wasn't working with him."

Tyler's smile didn't waver, but his eyes darkened. "Then what were you doing with him? Dancing? Sharing life stories over coffee?"

I shook my head. "It's not like that—"

"Oh, so how about we play your favorite game, huh? Guilt-tripping?" His voice dripped with sarcasm. "Let's try it out. When were you planning on telling me you were working with my father?"

My heart clenched.

Tyler continued, voice sharp like a blade. "After everything we shared. You used me. You betrayed me. You hurt me."

He tilted his head. "Now, do you see how that sounds like absolute bullshit?"

I opened my mouth, but he cut me off.

"At least I didn't tell you about leaving with my mom, but I didn't betray you by working with the main fucking enemy."

"Tyler, it's not like that," I said desperately. "You're misunderstanding me."

His eyes narrowed. "Then make me understand, Logan."

I took a shaky breath. "I'm not working for him."

Tyler's expression shifted in an instant, his gaze burning with rage. "Do NOT call that man my father."

I froze.

He had snapped at the dinner table too. I had noticed, but I hadn't thought much about it.

This wasn't the time to dwell on that.

This was the time to make him understand that I hadn't done this to hurt him.

"I'm sorry," I said quickly. "I won't call him that again. But please, just listen."

Tyler stayed silent, watching me like a predator waiting for the kill.

I took another deep breath. "About a week ago, I ran into Declan at a supermarket."

Tyler's jaw twitched.

"I went there to pick up some necessities. I greeted him like any normal person would, but honestly, I don't even like him," I continued.

Tyler scoffed. "Oh, you didn't like him? But you were working with him and feeding him information? Imagine if you did like him. You'd probably be shining his damn shoes too."

I clenched my fists. "It wasn't like that. Just let me explain, Tyler. Don't paint me as the bad guy."

His silence told me to continue.

"He recognized me. Said he remembered me as his friend's son. I tried to avoid him, but he wouldn't let it go. He started talking about my dad—stuff I didn't want to hear."

I swallowed hard before continuing. "Then he brought you up. Asked if I knew you. I said no, but he didn't believe me. He said he knew I knew you—because of Alexis."

Tyler's body went completely still.

"He knew about... that?" His voice was eerily calm.

"Yes." I forced myself to keep talking. "He said that since you hated me, there was no way I wouldn't know you. So I had no choice but to play along."

Tyler let out a cold laugh. "You had no choice?"

I pushed forward. "Then he made me an offer."

Tyler's expression didn't change, but I saw the way his hands curled into fists.

"He told me that he knew I wanted you to forgive me. And that he could help."

I exhaled shakily. "All I had to do was keep an eye on you and report back to him."

Silence.

I forced myself to keep going. "I asked him why he needed the information, but he told me it wasn't my concern. That all I needed to care about was your forgiveness. That if I wanted you back in my life, I had to do as he said."

I hesitated before adding, "And I agreed."

Tyler took a slow step forward.

"I was desperate for your forgiveness, Tyler," I admitted. "I—I never thought he would use the information to hurt you or your mom."

Tyler let out a bitter laugh. "You mean to tell me that after all these years of knowing him, you really didn't know what kind of monster he is?"

"I swear, I didn't."

Tyler let out a slow breath, shaking his head. "So let me get this straight... You've been talking to him for over a week?"

I nodded hesitantly.

Tyler's voice dropped lower. "So that means you were already feeding him information before those masked men came for us?"

My stomach twisted.

Tyler stepped closer, his voice sharp and accusing. "That's why you knew which path to take, huh? Why you knew they wouldn't chase us down that alley?"

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

His eyes burned with betrayal. "You already knew what was going to happen. You played along. Made yourself look like a hero when you were the reason we were in danger in the first place."

"Tyler, no—"

"Oh, Logan." His voice was mocking now. "You're more pathetic than I thought."

I flinched.

"And somehow," he continued, stepping even closer, "you had the audacity to cry and act like a bitch when I didn't tell you I was running away."

My chest ached.

"You were mad that I didn't trust you. And yet, the whole time, you were working for him."

I shook my head desperately. "I didn't suggest anything to him—I only told him that I thought something was going on with you."

Tyler's expression twisted into something colder.

"So you really think this explanation is helping you?"

I swallowed hard.

"Since when did you find out about the burner phone?" Tyler demanded.

I hesitated.

His grip tightened around my arm. "Answer me."

I exhaled shakily. "Today. I only found out today. Please, Tyler, don't hate me."

His jaw clenched. "Then tell me this—how did you tell Declan that we were running away when you slept next to me last night?"

I felt like I was suffocating.

I looked away.

"Logan," Tyler said darkly. "Look at me."

I forced my eyes back to his.

His next words were a death sentence.

"You told him while I was sleeping, didn't you?"

I bit my lip, but it was pointless. He already knew.

Tyler exhaled harshly, like he was barely holding himself together. "And what? You thought he was gonna help me? You thought he was gonna beg for my forgiveness?"

I tried reaching for him, but he jerked away.

"Tyler, I swear, I didn't know what he was planning. I—I didn't tell him about the burner phone. He must've found out some other way—"

Tyler scoffed. "Oh, Logan..." He tilted his head. "What the fuck am I supposed to do with you?"

My throat tightened. "Tyler, please—"

"All that crying... all that guilt-tripping... was fake, wasn't it?"

"No—"

"You were working for the devil himself."

I shook my head frantically. "I swear with my life, Tyler, I didn't know—"

Tyler didn't let me finish.

His voice was ice-cold. "Then let me give you some advice, Logan."

He stepped forward, closing the last bit of space between us.

And then, just as fast, he snatched the burner phone from my hand.

"Stay the fuck away from me."
