His Mistress is His Ex-Wife-Chapter 329: No Records
The next morning, Vladimir and Athena decided to go to the Civil Courthouse to register their marriage. She was now ready to use her real identity as Sabrina Williams. Her brother, Enzo, also gave them his blessing for this marriage.
On the other hand, Aaron respected his mother’s decision. He expressed his support for her own happiness, even though deep inside, he was still rooting for his biological father, Dominique.
’Let fate decide whether my Mom and Dad can be together or not,’ Aaron thought to himself as he entered the Civil Courthouse together with Sabrina and Vladimir.
The young boy was a little bit distracted as he didn’t know how to bring this up to his father. He was contemplating whether to inform Dominique about this marriage registration.
"Aaron, are you okay? Why are you so quiet?" Sabrina’s voice interrupted his line of thought.
She had noticed that Aaron was not paying much attention to his surroundings. He was just following her while holding her hand.
Aaron quickly gazed up, giving her a faint smile before responding, "Oh, I’m fine, Mom. It’s just that I didn’t sleep well last night."
Sabrina glanced at him meaningfully, silently observing his facial expressions. ’Is he having a hard time with this sudden marriage? I wonder what he really thinks about this?’
She darted her gaze between Aaron and Vladimir. She couldn’t refuse Vladimir, so she agreed without discussing it with her son. Even though Aaron never expressed his disapproval, she couldn’t feel any enthusiasm in him.
If he liked or was happy about something, Aaron was very vocal about it. This was the first time he was being so neutral and quiet.
As Sabrina tried to figure out Aaron’s hidden feelings, Vladimir held her waist as he guided her inside the Civil Registrar’s Office. A mix of joy and excitement was visible in his eyes.
’I know things will be alright. There is no turning back,’ she mumbled to herself, clutching her chest. She had mixed emotions today.
Upon entering the room, an employee immediately assisted them.
"Hi, Ma’am and Sir, how can I help you?" the staff politely said as he gestured for them to sit down in front of his table.
"We are here to register our marriage!" Vladimir promptly responded, raising the folder containing the legal documents needed for the marriage registration.
The staff smiled broadly, feeling Vladimir’s good mood. He could tell that the man was so in love with his bride.
"Okay, Sir. May I see the documents? You can also wait for a moment as I encode your personal details in our systems. After some verification, I will prepare your marriage certificates and then, we will proceed to the studio to take your photos together with your bride while holding your marriage certificates."
The staff explained the step-by-step procedure for their marriage registration. As he gave them some instructions, the staff shifted his attention to his computer, verifying their legal documents and proof of identity.
As they sat there, Vladimir gently squeezed Sabrina’s hand. "I still can’t believe that this is happening. In just a few minutes, we will be officially husband and wife. This is a dream come true."
Sabrina smiled back at him, pinching his right cheek. "Yes. This is not a dream, but a reality."
"Don’t worry, Sabrina... I will make our wedding ceremony memorable for you. Tell me what kind of dream wedding you want. I’ll do everything in my power to fulfill it."
Sabrina didn’t know why, but the moment Vladimir mentioned the word ’Dream Wedding’, the first thing that flashed into her mind was her wedding ceremony with Dominique.
Her wedding ceremony with Dominique was something she could have wished for before. That was the time she was so in love with him, and she was still clueless about Dominique’s evil motive for revenge.
"I don’t have a dream wedding... as long as I can be with the man I love... I will feel content," she responded, pushing the past memory to the back of her mind.
It was inappropriate for her to think of another man while discussing her wedding with Vladimir. Furthermore, Dominique was her ex-husband.
While Vladimir continued to consult Sabrina about their wedding preparations, a staff member returned to interrupt them. The civil registrar officer who had been assisting them now wore an odd, unreadable expression— one that immediately hinted that something was wrong.
"Ahem," he cleared his throat first before getting the attention of Sabrina. "Miss Williams..." he tossed an awkward look at the couple, then asked a question. "Were you married before?"
Sabrina and Vladimir exchanged glances with one another.
"Yes. I was... But I am already divorced from my ex-husband."
"Are you sure?" The staff member was confused for a moment.
Athena nodded in confirmation. "Yes. I signed our divorce papers five years ago," she added with certainty.
The staff member scratched the back of his head and took a deep sigh. "It seemed that we didn’t receive it. There was no record of your divorce. In our records, you are still married to Mr. Dominique Smith. That’s why we can’t process and register your marriage with Mr. Vladimir Ivankov."
"Are you certain you submitted the document to file for divorce? Maybe there’s been some misunderstanding. Have you spoken with Mr. Smith?" he asked again, seeking confirmation.
Vladimir’s expression darkened the moment he heard those words. Sabrina, on the other hand, looked just as confused as the staff member. "Are you saying... you misplaced our divorce documents?"
But the staff member quickly shook his head. "That would never happen, Ma’am. Once your divorce papers are submitted to this office, they are always included in our official records."
"What are you trying to say? Sabrina and Dominique are not officially divorced yet, and I can’t marry her?" Vladimir burst out, unable to contain his temper.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Ivankov... but that is the case. In our records, Miss Sabrina is still married to Mr. Smith. If you want to... You can bring Mr. Smith here or talk to him. Maybe he has any idea about what happened to the divorce papers Miss Sabrina signed five years ago."
"WHAT?!! This is driving me nuts!" Vladimir slammed the table in front of him as he stood up. He could feel a rage of emotions stirring inside his chest right now.
"Uncle, please calm down. We are in a public place right now. Please behave," Aaron suddenly intervened.
Vladimir almost grabbed the collar of the staff member because of rage. Fortunately, Aaron stopped him before he could reach the man.
Meanwhile, Sabrina didn’t know how to react to this absurd situation. She just sat there quietly, trying to process everything.
When Vladimir calmed down a little bit, Aaron began sending Dominique a message. He also wanted to confirm with his father about what happened five years ago. Why was it that the Civil Registrar’s Office didn’t have the record of his parents’ divorce?
[ Dad, good morning! It’s me, Aaron. My Mom and I are here in the Civil Courthouse. Uncle Vladimir and Mom are supposed to register their marriage today. But for some unknown reason, the staff member told us they couldn’t process their marriage certificate because you are still my Mom’s official husband. What happened to your divorce papers? ]
