His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 140: Go Ahead and Kill Me If You Can
As soon as Joy Morgan returned to the hospital room, she saw Wendy Fletcher with a dark, furious expression.
"Mom, why are you out of bed again? Didn’t the doctor tell you..."
Before Joy could finish, Wendy suddenly grabbed her wrist and loudly demanded, "What did you just talk about with Mrs. Yates alone?"
"You should get back..."
Joy’s words were cut off sharply by Wendy, "I asked you, what did you say to her?"
Wendy was obviously agitated, as if afraid of something.
The grip of her hand was so tight that her nails actually cut into Joy’s wrist.
Joy frowned in pain, not understanding why Wendy was acting like this. It was so late, she didn’t want to disturb anyone else, so she gently tried to soothe her: "She said all your hospital expenses will be covered by the Lynch Family."
"Just that? Nothing else?"
"Mom, do you think she’d tell me anything else?"
"No... It’s fine if there wasn’t."
Joy wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but when Wendy heard that Sylvia Yates hadn’t said anything else, she seemed relieved.
After helping Wendy back to bed, Joy fetched water to wipe her face and wash her feet.
"How did you actually get to know Kiana Sutton?"
Joy’s hand paused slightly. She’d met Kiana on the way to the prison, and later they became close friends.
But she couldn’t let Wendy know she often went to the prison to visit that person, especially since he never agreed to see her.
"She came to shop at our mall, so we met."
Wendy didn’t doubt this answer; her anger came from something else.
"Didn’t I tell you last time to stay away from a woman like Kiana Sutton? Are you just ignoring my words?"
Joy had been exhausted from work all day, and rushed over as soon as she heard Wendy was in trouble, but instead of comfort, she got relentless questioning, which made her angry too.
"You don’t even know Kiana, why are you so hostile toward her?"
"Do you even know what kind of person she is? Do you know what kind of parents she has?"
Then, she angrily spat out, "Her father’s a kidnapper. If Miss Lynch hadn’t been lucky enough to wake up after three years in a coma, he would have been a murderer. And Kiana Sutton, just to marry into the Sinclair Family, drugged Ethan Sinclair and climbed into his bed, stealing Miss Lynch’s boyfriend. You think someone like her is decent?"
Joy felt something was off. "Mom, how do you know so much about Kiana Sutton and Kate Lynch?"
"You don’t need to worry about that. Just remember one thing—completely cut ties with Kiana Sutton."
"Impossible!"
Wendy’s eyes nearly sprang out of her head, "What did you say? Say that again?"
"I don’t know the details about Kiana’s dad or Kate Lynch, and I won’t comment, but Kiana is my friend—I know exactly what she’s like."
Joy paused, then continued, "And... if I remember right, when Kiana married Ethan Sinclair, he and Kate Lynch weren’t together. So how could anyone say Kiana stole Kate’s boyfriend? Clearly, it’s Kate who’s trying to wreck Kiana’s marriage now..."
"Slap..."
Before Joy could finish, Wendy slapped her hard across the face.
Wendy was beside herself, her chest heaving, eyes blazing with anger. "I think you’ve been brainwashed by that Kiana Sutton!"
Growing up, Wendy hadn’t treated her very well, but she rarely hit her; tonight, for the sake of Kate Lynch, she’d actually slapped her this hard.
Joy fired back angrily, "So why does Mom think Kate Lynch is such a good person?"
"You..."
Wendy tried to strike her again, but Joy stood her ground, staring back stubbornly, with a look that said, "Go ahead and kill me if you can."
"Get out!"
Joy gritted her teeth, spun around, and left the hospital room.
Elsewhere, Kate Lynch finally got to see Ethan Sinclair, and of course wanted to stay with him a little longer.
But Sylvia Yates was resolute—she told Kate to get in the Lynch Family’s car.
Kate had no choice but to say a reluctant goodbye to Ethan Sinclair, "Ian, then I’ll see you in Varden."
Ethan Sinclair nodded, "Take care and get some rest."
Then he nodded to Sylvia Yates and got into his own car.
Recently, Ethan Sinclair had been so busy he could barely breathe, and the moment he got in the car, sleepiness hit him like a wave.
Kiana Sutton was still brooding over why Wendy Fletcher hated her so much, when suddenly her shoulder felt heavy. She turned around to see Ethan Sinclair, eyes closed, sound asleep.
He’d been working overtime for days, his dark circles visible even in the dimming light.
But as soon as he heard about Kate Lynch’s accident, he dropped everything and rushed over without a moment’s hesitation.
If only he could worry about her like that—be just as nervous and protective—she’d be satisfied.
When they arrived at The Montpellier Villa, Connor Grant gently woke Ethan Sinclair.
Ethan Sinclair awoke, only to realize he’d fallen asleep leaning against Kiana Sutton. His brow furrowed slightly: he’d always slept badly, especially in cars, and no matter how tired he was, he could never doze off.
But somehow, those past two hours had been the best rest he’d had in ages.
Not just that—even at night, as long as he slept with Kiana Sutton, his sleep was always deep.
Damn, what the hell is going on?
He stared intently at the sleeping Kiana Sutton, conflicting emotions swirling in his eyes.
When Kiana Sutton finally woke up again, she found herself in her own bedroom; it was already morning.
She realized she’d fallen asleep in the car last night.
Was it Ethan Sinclair who carried her home? And where was he now?
No time to think it over, Kiana Sutton got up and rushed to work.
Ethan Sinclair wasn’t at the office.
Early that morning, he’d taken Nathan Lawson to survey a crime scene; on the way back, he got a call from his grandmother telling him to bring Kiana Sutton to the old house for dinner that night.
Ethan Sinclair didn’t even get a chance to refuse; his grandmother had already hung up.
Soon, Kate Lynch called.
"Ian, do you have time tonight? It’s been ages—I want to have dinner with you."
"Sorry, Kate. I’m afraid it won’t work tonight."
"Oh, you’re busy?"
Kate’s tone sounded truly disappointed. Ethan Sinclair didn’t have the heart to let her down, so he replied softly, "Yeah, I have to go home to the family estate; maybe another time, okay?"
"Okay, I’ll wait for your call."
As soon as she hung up, Kate Lynch’s face turned cold.
If Ethan Sinclair was going to the old house, he’d definitely bring Kiana Sutton.
Maybe, after seeing how caring Ethan was toward her last night, Kiana purposely got Grandma to call him home, just to put him in check.
This Kiana Sutton—her scheming is really something else.
Stella popped in, saw Kate’s furious expression, and immediately knew her plan to meet Ethan hadn’t worked out. While munching an apple, she said, "Sis, I’ve got an idea."
Kate shot her a cold look, "You’ve been played by her so badly, what good idea could you possibly have?"
"Hmph, I underestimated her last time, but this time, I swear she’ll be utterly disgraced, and Grandma will be totally disappointed in her."
Kate hadn’t come up with any way to deal with Kiana Sutton for now, so she decided to hear Stella out.
"What is it?"
Stella leaned in and whispered a few words in Kate’s ear.
"Are you sure?"
"Of course, I saw it with my own eyes."
Kate pondered on her phone for a moment, then patted Stella’s shoulder. "Stella, you really are getting smarter—once Ethan and I are together, I promise I’ll help match you with Miles Goodman."
