His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 149: This Mute Has Nothing Good Up Her Sleeve
Rosalind Joyce certainly deserves to die, but she’s the Vice Chairman of the Albatross Foundation, and this matter concerns the reputation of both the Sinclair Family and the Foundation.
Kiana Sutton just wants to prove her innocence; she doesn’t want to blow things out of proportion, so she intends to give the video to the old lady and let her handle it.
The old lady watches the video and is so furious that she immediately calls Rosalind Joyce to the house.
Rosalind Joyce is still basking in the joy of having ruined Kiana Sutton’s reputation; today she’s dressed to the nines, all designer brands.
She had originally arranged to meet friends to check out the latest season’s handbags and clothes, but when Nanny Chapman called her, she was in a foul mood. As soon as she walked in, she complained, "Mom, I’m busy managing Foundation affairs. Why did you have to summon me so urgently?"
The old lady throws her phone at Rosalind Joyce. "See for yourself what you’ve done!"
Rosalind Joyce looks at the phone and her expression changes dramatically.
Damn it, how is there a video like this?
Who filmed it?
No, that’s not the point. The point is, how did the video end up in the old lady’s hands?
Seeing Kiana Sutton standing next to the old lady, Rosalind Joyce curses under her breath. If she’s guessed right, it must have been Kiana who gave the video to the old lady.
But where did Kiana get the video?
Rosalind Joyce panics, her mind racing, then she asks in disbelief, "Mom, this... what’s going on?"
"What’s going on? Isn’t that you in the video?"
"N-no, it’s not me. I never did anything like that."
Rosalind Joyce plans to deny everything. "Mom, I’ve been with the Foundation for years. I care for both people and animals—I’d never let anyone hurt a cat!"
As she speaks, Rosalind Joyce starts to cry, aggrieved. "Technology these days is so advanced—someone must’ve deliberately made a video like this to frame me." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
The old lady slams her cane on the floor, glaring at Rosalind Joyce, unable to restrain her anger. "Even now, you still won’t admit it!"
"Mom, if I didn’t do it, I won’t admit it even if you beat me to death. Why don’t you tell me where you got the video? I want to see who’s trying to tear us apart."
While speaking, Rosalind Joyce glares fiercely at Kiana Sutton.
Kiana Sutton gestures, "I gave Grandma the video. If you’re lying, just find that staff member—all the truth will come out."
Upon hearing this, Rosalind Joyce points at Kiana, cursing at her. "I knew you were up to no good, you little mute! You abuse cats and now you’re trying to pin it on me."
She sneers. "Fine, then let’s find the staff member from the video. We’ll confront each other face to face."
At that moment, the butler rushes in.
"Madam, Jacqueline Warren handed in her resignation yesterday. When we went to her house today, it was already empty."
The old lady shoots Rosalind Joyce a cold look. Rosalind feigns innocence and shock. "How is that possible?"
Then she goes over, clutching the old lady’s arm, complaining, "Mom, I really don’t know anything! I don’t even know that woman called ’Warren’—someone is clearly trying to set me up. You have to investigate thoroughly!"
That’s what Rosalind Joyce says, but inside she’s secretly delighted—since she wanted to take care of Kiana, she would never keep Jacqueline Warren, that ticking time bomb, by her side.
Last night, she’d already arranged for Jacqueline to go abroad; by now, she was probably already landed.
Just then, a maid runs in. "Madam, a woman named Jacqueline Warren says she wants to see you."
Rosalind Joyce’s smile freezes instantly. She’s suddenly gripped by panic.
How... how could this be?
The old lady sees Rosalind Joyce’s expression and nods at the maid. "Let her in."
Seconds later, Jacqueline Warren walks into The Sinclair Estate, her face ashen and her whole body trembling.
As soon as she sees the old lady, she falls to her knees with a thud, kowtowing over and over. "Madam, I know I was wrong. Please, please have mercy on me."
"Stand up and speak!"
Jacqueline Warren nods and slowly gets to her feet.
At the very moment Rosalind Joyce sees Jacqueline Warren, every trace of her secret joy and pride is replaced by overwhelming panic.
Damn it, wasn’t this woman supposed to be abroad?
How is she here?
Before the old lady can say anything, Rosalind Joyce charges up and slaps Jacqueline Warren several times. Taking the lead, she shouts, "You’ve got some nerve, Jacqueline Warren! The Albatross Foundation treated you well and yet you abused cats to frame me and Kiana!"
As she hits Jacqueline Warren, Rosalind Joyce is clearly hinting that she wants Jacqueline to take all the blame herself.
Jacqueline Warren understands exactly what Rosalind Joyce means. Instantly, she remembers what that cold, lofty, distinguished man said to her.
"Your only chance to survive is to tell the truth. Otherwise, with just the twitch of a finger, I’ll see you rot in prison."
"I heard your son just started high school. His grades are pretty good—he must be your pride. You wouldn’t want to ruin his life because of this, right?"
Back then, Jacqueline Warren listened to Rosalind Joyce only for her son’s sake.
She’d already prepared everything to go abroad, planning to leave with her son last night. She didn’t expect Ethan Sinclair’s men would intercept her.
Ethan Sinclair didn’t expose her in front of her son. He gave her one night to think it over.
Between offending Rosalind Joyce and Ethan Sinclair, she’d rather choose Rosalind Joyce as her enemy.
Ethan Sinclair appears refined and cold on the outside, but she knows full well—if she angers Ethan, her whole family is finished.
With that in mind, Jacqueline Warren shoves Rosalind Joyce away. "Madam, I confess! I’ll tell you everything... Vice Chairman Joyce paid me to frame Miss Sutton."
Rosalind Joyce’s eyes redden with fury. She lunges, trying to hit Jacqueline, but the butler stops her.
Rosalind Joyce screams in rage, "You bitch! You dare to slander me—who put you up to this?"
Jacqueline Warren bursts into tears. "I’m not lying. You can check my bank account. There’s a record of Vice Chairman Joyce’s transfer—none of the money’s been touched."
Since Jacqueline Warren has offended Rosalind Joyce, all she can do is beg the old lady for help. "Madam, I swear I’m not lying! I have no grudge against Miss Sutton—I had no reason to hurt her. And how could I know she’s afraid of cats? It was all Vice Chairman Joyce who told me."
The old lady’s face darkens further. She stares coldly at Rosalind Joyce. "What else do you have to say?"
Rosalind Joyce never expected things would spiral like this. In just one day, the tables have completely turned.
At that moment, the butler gets a call, his expression grim as he says, "Madam, it’s bad—someone posted online that Second Madam instigated people to abuse cats and framed the Young Madam..."
