Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Help Me Look Into Someone

Kiana Sutton originally thought that after Ethan Sinclair discovered her schemes, he wouldn’t come home for a long time.

Unexpectedly, during this period, as long as he wasn’t on a business trip, he’d come back no matter how late his social engagements went.

The same went for Kate Lynch; Kiana thought Kate would retaliate against her, but surprisingly, Kate acted as if nothing happened, continuing with her acting and endorsements.

Would Kate give up on Ethan Sinclair because of this?

That’s definitely impossible.

But Kate’s calm demeanor was unlike her character. Something unusual must be going on, and Kiana had to remain vigilant.

Looking out from the eighteenth floor of the Evercrest Group, one could see the vast sky, which at this moment felt like the calm before a storm, causing a sense of unease.

In the afternoon, Joy Morgan called Kiana Sutton, asking if she had time after work to pick up Willow. Joy had to work overtime that evening and couldn’t make it.

Kiana had some free time, so she agreed.

After picking up Willow, Kiana took her to a children’s restaurant near Joy’s workplace. Willow was a lively and cheerful little girl.

She was very fond of Kiana and shared interesting stories from her school with her.

Kiana couldn’t speak, but she was an attentive listener. The little one chatted away, and time flew by quickly.

As the restaurant was about to close, Joy Morgan came in, panting heavily, and gulped down a glass of water as soon as she entered.

Kiana feared she might choke, so she quickly stood up to pat her back. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"Ugh... I’m exhausted!"

Joy slumped onto the sofa, and Kiana noticed she seemed thinner than before. With concern, she gestured, "Why are you so tired these days? If it’s too much, consider changing jobs."

"Jobs aren’t that easy to find, besides, I’m being picked on."

"By who?"

"It’s a long story, better not to mention it. It’s my mom. I don’t understand what she’s thinking. I have to work, and no one picks up Willow from school or takes care of her, yet she insists on going to work. She comes back in the early morning hours and is gone again by dawn. I’m juggling taking care of Willow, doing housework, and working, and it’s wearing me out."

Whenever Wendy Fletcher was mentioned, Kiana Sutton recalled her high-handed manner when accusing Hannah Lowell at the police station. She gestured, "Is Ms. Fletcher doing well at Kate Lynch’s studio?"

"Should be doing well. I see her occasionally, looking radiant and always praising how beautiful and capable Kate is. She even mentioned how much Kate loves osmanthus cakes, going out at odd hours to pick osmanthus blossoms downstairs to make cakes for her."

The more Joy Morgan vented, the angrier she became. "Honestly, I’ve never tasted anything she’s made in my life."

As a child, Joy Morgan wasn’t favored by Wendy Fletcher, perhaps because Wendy wanted a son but ended up with another daughter.

So Wendy rarely looked after Joy, and it was Joy’s sister, Serena Morgan, who raised her.

"Forget tasting her homemade stuff. No matter how hard I worked or excelled, she never praised me once. Instead, she claimed I liked showing off. Honestly, if it weren’t for my sister, under my mom’s oppressive upbringing, I might have ended up reclusive."

Starved, Joy Morgan ate while talking, "I sometimes think if she could praise me like she does Kate, I’d feel content, no matter how physically tired I am. But, humph... the old lady favors her idol over her family."

Kiana frowned, "Did Ms. Fletcher idolize celebrities before?"

"She used to listen to the Four Heavenly Kings a lot but wasn’t this fanatical. Now, she’s cast Kate as a deity. I’m just puzzled—Kate only debuted recently and hasn’t done many shows. How could she be so enamored with Kate?"

Kiana thought carefully for a moment and gestured, "Did Ms. Fletcher used to work at Mercywell Private Hospital?"

"Yes, the job at the hospital was good, with full benefits. She resigned after three years and went to work on the set of Kate Lynch’s crew as a field worker..."

Thinking of this reminded Joy of how Wendy prioritizes Kate over her own family, and her expression turned a bit sour. "Enough about that, it’s annoying! How about you, how are things between you and Ethan Sinclair now?"

Kiana didn’t know how to define her relationship with Ethan Sinclair. It seemed slightly better than before, yet unchanged.

Every family has its issues.

After the meal, Joy Morgan took the sleepy Willow home, and Kiana Sutton hailed a cab back to her place.

Along the way, she felt increasingly uneasy.

There are many teens idolizing celebrities to the point of denying their parents, but never have I seen someone ignore their daughter and grandchild for it.

Wendy Fletcher is no longer young, how could she treat her own daughter so poorly yet be so kind to someone else’s?

Lost in thought, Kiana sent Elliot Crowe a WeChat message, "Great Detective Crowe, could you help look into someone? Her name is Wendy Fletcher, lives on Evergreen Street, has two daughters—one passed away, leaving behind a granddaughter, and the other works at Celestial Plaza, currently at Kate Lynch’s studio."

Elliot replied with a row of question marks, "Don’t you already know about her? What else do you need to check?"

"I’m sending you this so you don’t waste your time. I want to know if there’s any connection between Wendy Fletcher and Kate Lynch."

"OK, considering the investigation into your father’s case hasn’t progressed, I’ll do this for free."

"Kate knows I’m investigating my father’s case, so she’ll be on guard. Be careful."

"Mm, don’t worry."

When Kiana Sutton arrived home, it was already 11 p.m.

She bathed in her room and, as she stepped out of the bathroom, she saw Ethan Sinclair with a somber face.

Before Kiana could react, Ethan carried her off to his room, stripped her naked, and engaged in the most intimate act between husband and wife without saying a word.

It had been like this for the past few days; every night he returned home, pulled her into the room for that without a word, his expression always heavy.

Every morning when Kiana woke up, he’d already be gone.

It seemed his sole reason for coming home was to sleep with her. She couldn’t speak, and he apparently didn’t want to.

After several days of this, in the morning as Kiana was heading to work, she received a WeChat message from Kate Lynch, "Let’s talk."

Kiana knew this day would come, or you could say she’d been waiting for it.

"I only have time in the evening."

"Then tonight at 9:30, see you at The Royalton Hotel."
