His Obsession Began After Losing Her-Chapter 78: She Can’t Marry Another Man
Chapter 78 - She Can’t Marry Another Man
Jin had just finished an executive meeting that discussed measures to handle the current crisis at Park Bank when his phone rang. He saw his mother's name flashing on the screen and reluctantly picked up the call.
"Mum," he greeted, trying to mask his irritation.
"Jin, is that girl kissing Noran Kingston in the video really Shuri?" Aera's anxious voice cut through the line.
Jin frowned, pressing his lips together as he thought back to last night. He had witnessed Shuri and Noran kissing passionately, and this morning, videos and photos of the incident were all over the internet, further annoying him.
He had been trying to block out the public spectacle, but his mother's call brought it all rushing back.
"Hello? Why aren't you answering me? Did you hear what I just asked?" Aera demanded.
"Yes, I heard you," Jin reluctantly replied, "It's indeed Shuri."
"H-How... How could this have happened?" Aera was in disbelief.
When Hana had informed her previously that Shuri was engaged, she refused to acknowledge it, thinking that she could still get Shuri to break off the engagement by following Master Hoon's advice.
"I handed you the charm that Master Hoon gave me. It was supposed to influence her feelings and make her see you in a better light. Didn't you give it to her? Why isn't it working?"
Jin tried to be patient and replied, "I passed it to Shuri, but I don't think she's carrying it around with her. Her fiancé even gave me back the fragrant pouch. Mum, I think we should just let this go. She seems really in love with him."
As much as Jin didn't want to give up on Shuri, after seeing their passionate kiss in the restaurant last night, he realized he had no choice but to let go.
"No! How could we let our lucky star go?!" Aera's voice was frantic.
"Our company is suffering losses because Shuri is drifting further from us. As long as we can get her into our family, she will bring us prosperity and good health! We can't just let her marry another man like that!"
Aera wasn't ready to give up. According to Master Hoon, Shuri would bring great prosperity to the Park family, akin to a golden hen that laid golden eggs. The thought of losing such a valuable asset was unbearable.
"We are already trying our hardest to solve the company's issues, Mum. Give us some time."
Jin didn't want to entertain Aera's thoughts of using Shuri to leverage Park Bank out of this crisis. He wasn't that superficial. Besides, he genuinely liked Shuri and didn't want to make use of her.
"You're useless!" Aera suddenly burst out. "How could you not make her fall for you after all these years? Now she's going to marry another man, and you aren't even trying to win her back!"
Jin, finally losing his patience, raised his voice slightly. "What do you expect me to do? Lock her up? We can't force her to be with me if she doesn't want to. It's not right."
Aera's voice grew even angrier. "I'll make it right! I'll go find Master Hoon and find a way to get you two together! You just follow what I tell you to do and don't stop contacting Shuri, you hear me?"
Before Jin could respond, Aera hung up, leaving him staring at his phone in frustration. He ran a hand through his hair, letting out a deep sigh. The tension from the meeting and now this conversation weighed heavily on him.
He had tried everything to win Shuri's heart over the years, and nothing had worked. Jin didn't believe that Master Hoon could succeed where he had failed.
...
Shuri was in the car with Noran, on their way to the shelter where she occasionally volunteered on her off days to give check-ups to the animals there.
"How could I have done something like that?" she muttered, looking at the video of her and Noran kissing.
Embarrassment was clear on her face.
Noran chuckled lightly, seeing her gasp at the scene.
"If you're uncomfortable with this, I can have them all removed from the internet," he offered, his tone reassuring.
Shuri looked at him in surprise.
"Really?" she asked, taken aback by the possibility.
Noran nodded. "Yes, it would take a while, but it's possible."
It might be more straightforward if this happened in New Valley, given his close cooperation with Lloyd Media. But since they were in Sol City, it could be a bit more troublesome. Still, there's nothing he couldn't handle.
Shuri thought for a moment and then sighed. "It's alright. Many have already seen the videos. I think it's pointless to remove them now. Besides, people will likely forget about it once something new comes up."
She was just worried that exposing her identity as Noran's fiancée might affect her clinic.
She didn't want paparazzi, reporters, or his fans crowding around her clinic, disrupting its operations. Surprisingly, none of that had happened despite the online frenzy.
Little did she know, Noran had his men protecting the clinic from such disturbances.
"Now that everyone knows you're my fiancée, you can't run away from me, Rin" Noran said, holding her hand gently.
Shuri smiled and squeezed his hand. "Why would I run away from such a fine man like you?"
"You did try to avoid me for a decade," Noran reminded her with a playful smirk.
Shuri pressed her lips together, quickly changing the topic as they approached the shelter. "Are you sure you want to come with me today? You can just drop me off here."
"I'm free today, and I want to spend more time with you, Rin," Noran said, his expression warm and sincere.
Shuri's heart swelled with happiness.
"Alright then, I'll introduce you to the director," she said, getting out of the car.
As they approached the entrance, the shelter director, Aileen Yoon, came out to welcome them.
"Thank you for coming to help us again, Dr. Lee," Aileen said with a warm smile.
Shuri returned the smile. "No problem, Miss Yoon. This is my..."
She was about to introduce Noran when Aileen interjected, "This must be your fiancée, Noran Kingston, right? Nice to meet you, Mr. Kingston."
It appeared the director had seen the news online as well. Noran shook hands with Aileen and greeted her politely. "Nice to meet you too, Miss Yoon."
"And thank you so much for your donation, Mr. Kingston," Aileen continued. "Thanks to your generosity, we've been able to renovate our facilities and provide better care and treatment for the animals."
Shuri looked at Noran in surprise.
"You donated to the shelter?" she asked, her eyes wide.
"It's not much. I just want to support the place you've been volunteering in."
Aileen smiled warmly. "You're being humble, Mr. Kingston. Donating a million dollars is no small feat. Thanks to your generosity, we can make significant improvements and provide better care for the animals."
"A million dollars?" Shuri echoed, her voice filled with disbelief. She couldn't believe Noran had donated so much to help her cause, and he hadn't even mentioned it.
"It's nothing worth mentioning," Noran replied as if it were no big deal.
Aileen turned to Noran with a hopeful expression. "Mr. Kingston, would you mind if I showed you around the shelter? I'd love to discuss the new facilities and renovations we can undertake with your donation."
Shuri thought it was a great idea for Aileen to bring Noran around when she tended to the animals. "You should look around the place with Miss Yoon and interact with the animals here. I'm sure they would be delighted by your presence."
Whether it was because of his good looks or comforting presence, for some reason, animals tended to like being around Noran.
Noran nodded, believing he shouldn't disturb Shuri as she tended to the sick animals. "Alright, I'll see you later."
Shuri waved at him with a smile, and Noran took a final glance at her before leaving with Aileen.
Then, she made her way to the check-up station in one of the shelter houses, greeting the nearby dogs that approached her along the way.
Their excited barks and wagging tails brought a smile to her face as she petted them gently.
As she continued walking, she spotted Jacob and Gina, two regular volunteers at the shelter, approaching her.
"Hey, Dr. Lee!" Jacob and Gina called out, waving to her.
"Hi, Jacob. Hi, Gina," Shuri greeted warmly. "How's everything going today?"
Gina replied, "We have brought someone new to help us today."
"Really?" Shuri said, intrigued. "That's great! We can always use more hands around here."
"Yeah, we thought you'd appreciate the extra help," Gina said, sharing a knowing glance with Jacob.
With that, she continued towards the medical room, her mind buzzing with curiosity about the new volunteer. As she pushed open the door and stepped inside, she was greeted by the sight of a tall figure standing by the examination table.
"Hello, I'm—" Shuri started, but her words caught in her throat when she saw who it was.
Standing there, with a calm and composed demeanor, was Sigmund.
