His soul-Chapter 571: Diego’s death

Diego’s execution day.

After a long and tiring trial process, finally the day of Diego’s execution arrived. With all the crimes he’s committed against the Sanders family, Diego’s charges are even more severe after being added to by the shootings he had committed on five previous cops. That’s why he ended up receiving the death penalty as Massimo had expected from the start.

"Shouldn’t we tell Rosa and Selena about this execution, Massimo?" Gina asked quietly to Massimo who was preparing to go to the place where Diego’s execution was carried out.

Massimo smiled. "No need, they’re both having fun. I don’t want to spoil their mood."

"But..."

"That’s what Daddy wants too, dear," said Massimo quickly, cutting Gina’s words gently.

Gina squeezed the dress she was wearing. "But Diego is Rosa and Selena’s older brother, they both deserve to know what Diego is going through."

"They will be notified by Daddy directly when they return from Bali."

"Bali?"

"Yes, your sisters are currently in Bali. One of the best islands they would love to visit," said Massimo gently. "Yes, I’m leaving, I’m fine at home, okay?"

Gina nodded slowly.

After landing a kiss on Gina’s forehead gently, Massimo then rushed out of the room because Martin had called him. They had to arrive on time at the execution site in order to see the big, awaited show.

From the balcony of her room Gina could see Massimo leave, she felt her belly which was getting bigger and bigger gently. Ever since finding out that Diego was going to get the death penalty, Gina had been very nervous. Even though Diego had killed his grandparents, Gina didn’t expect Diego to get such a severe punishment. Gina even hopes that Diego can change and become a new human when he is in prison, but all of Gina’s hopes are dashed when he finds out that Diego will get the death penalty.

"If there really is another life, I hope you will be reborn as a better human being, Diego," Gina said in her heart sincerely.

Place of execution.

Since last night when she found out that this morning Diego would be executed, Vanessa had been so hysterical. She went on a rampage, destroying everything in the cell. Two of their roommates were even injured because they were hit by the stainless plates they had eaten in, that’s why the two people who were finally removed by the police were on guard for their safety.

"Julian Sanders, you can’t kill my son. You can’t kill him!"

"Diego is mine, Julian. You can’t take it from me... Diego can’t die, Diego can’t die."

Vanessa continues to scream loudly as she is led to the course where she will witness Diego’s execution, with her hands tied behind her back. Vanessa can’t do much. She could only surrender when she was dragged into the soundproof glass room.

When Vanessa was entered into the special room, Massimo and Julian who had just arrived immediately turned to look at her. The sound of screaming and swearing that came out of Vanessa’s lips made Julian and Massimo silent, Vanessa’s chaotic condition made Julian a little concerned. Even though Vanesa has harmed him a lot, from the bottom of his heart he still has compassion for Vanessa. Julian feels indebted to Vanessa for having given birth to two daughters for him.

Realizing that the father-in-law kept staring at Vanessa who was screaming like crazy in the glass room, Massimo then gently landed his hand on his father-in-law’s shoulder. "This is the consequence she has to pay for all the crimes that have been committed over the years to the Sanders family, Dad."

"Yes, Daddy knows. Daddy just feels a little sorry for her, Daddy knows that Vanessa loved Diego. She must be very devastated when she saw her son die horribly in front of her eyes"

Massimo smiled. "That’s the price she has to pay for poisoning Diego with her greed, she’ll have to see how her own handiwork ends up."

"Yeah, you’re right, everything that happened to Diego was because of Vanessa’s selfishness. If Vanessa wasn’t too ambitious to make Diego the only heir in the Sanders family, this probably wouldn’t have happened, if only Vanessa hadn’t poisoned Diego with her evil plans. Maybe by now he has grown into a successful young man who is virtuous. Unlike today, he became a murderer and had to die at the hands of the executioner," said Julian hoarsely, having loved Diego for years making Julian feel a little lost.

"All this is well arranged by God, Dad. Trust me," said Massimo quietly.

Julian nodded slowly in response to Massimo’s words, because the execution process was about to take place. Massimo and Julian were then asked to go to the place that had been provided by the previous officer to watch the execution process which would be held soon. As soon as Massimo and Julian entered the room, the covered Diego was led out by the two officers to the center of the field where he would soon be punished.

After arriving at the designated place, Diego’s headgear was removed. His face was pale, but there was no sadness in it. Diego looks ready and resigned to accept his punishment, after three days ago the priest visited and made a confession Diego looks so calm now. Because he still has the last wish, Diego then uses that desire to speak directly in front of his parents who are not far from him.

"Mommy, I’m sure you can hear me now," Diego said quietly in a voice that could be heard clearly by everyone, including Vanessa who was talking to Diego. "Thank you for all your love all this time, I’m sorry if I have many faults with you.... I’m also sorry I couldn’t keep my promise to take care of you, thank you also for giving birth and loving me so much. I hope after this Mommy can become a better human being, I’m so sorry if I can’t carry out my duties as a son to you."

Inside the room Vanessa screamed loudly, with her head shaking. Vanessa asked Diego not to talk like that. As strong and as much as Vanessa speaks, no one will be able to hear her because the room has been arranged so that the voice she speaks cannot be heard by others outside, Vanessa can only hear Diego’s voice which has been connected to a device in her room.

Even though he couldn’t hear what his mother was saying at the moment, Diego was sure that his mother was telling him not to speak, saying the last sentence. Diego’s tears fell when he saw his mother pounding on the large glass that was the wall where she was now.

Not wanting to waste the time he got, Diego then turned his gaze to Julian and Massimo who were in the room next to Vanessa. Diego was silent for a moment, seeing Julian who had taken care of him since childhood made Diego feel so guilty. After taking a deep breath, Diego finally started to speak.

"Daddy, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for all my mistakes, I’m sorry that I don’t know how to repay this favor. I hope that if there is another life after this, I can be reborn as your child. A child who will serve sincerely without any intention..." Diego stopped his speech because his chest felt tight, the many mistakes he had previously made to Julian made it difficult for Diego to speak. "I’m really sorry, even though my mistake can’t be forgiven I beg with humility, Daddy can forgive me. At least with that apology I can sleep in peace."

Julian immediately clenched his fists, Diego’s words hit his soul. Even though Diego was a child he cared for sincerely, seeing Diego about to face death and saying his last words made Julian so sad.

"And Massimo, Mr. Massimo del Cano...the only person I want to beat. I’m sorry for getting you and Gina into trouble so often, the jealousy growing inside of me made me try many times to separate you guys. Even last time I had time to send a video of Gina and Lucas together to you, and finally you and Gina had to separate again because of that, right? Please forgive my stupid actions, I’m really sorry... also convey my sincere apologies to Gina. Tell her I’m lucky to know her..and for Selena and Rosa please give them a hug, take care of my sisters like your own sister. Say sorry to them for not being a good big brother."

Not being able to speak anymore Diego then lowered his head, after a few minutes of silence Diego slowly raised his head again.

Julian, who had been calmed by Massimo then grabbed the microphone that had been provided. "Daddy forgives you son. Daddy forgives you...you can sleep in peace after this." Julian’s voice was shaking with sobs.

"Thank you, Daddy. Thank you for being my father," Diego answered hoarsely, slowly turning his gaze to an officer who was still standing beside him. "Go, I want to face my death without my head covered."

"Are you serious?"

"I’m serious, I want to be able to see my mom and dad’s faces one last time before actually leaving," Diego answered quietly.

The officer nodded his head, after that he walked towards the exit leaving Diego alone with the executioner who was ready with his guns exactly ten meters in front of Diego. Not long after Diego stood alone, the executioner who was wearing all black then aimed his gun at Diego.

Diego, who was so ready to look back at his mother and stepfather for the last time, after he had had enough he closed his eyes, preparing to meet the death that was waiting for him.

Dor...

Gunshots sounded loud in that place, the bullet that was released from the executioner’s weapon pierced Diego’s heart which made him die instantly without excruciating pain.

Seeing Diego covered in blood, Vanessa is going crazy, she screams loudly calling out the name of Diego, her lovely son. The child she so guarded and protected with the wrong love, because of her excessive greed, Diego finally had to groan for his life at the hands of the executioner like this.

Julian closed his eyes as he watched Diego’s lifeless body limp on the pillars that bound him, watching the child who had been raised with love for years die in such a horrific way that Julian couldn’t lift his head. Even though he wanted Diego to get a severe punishment for all the mistakes he had made, he still didn’t think that he would be this devastated to see Diego die.

"Dad, let’s go home," Massimo said quietly, inviting Julian to leave. Massimo, who had been told by doctor Peter to keep Julian’s emotions stable, tries to keep Julian strong.

"I..I want to touch Diego one last time."

Massimo smiled. "Later, after the body is put in the coffin. Not only Daddy, I also want to touch him and say goodbye to him. Now we go and let Vanessa hug her child one last time, let Vanessa taste the fruit she planted for years firsthand ."

Julian nodded slowly, without looking back at Diego who was being released from his leash he walked towards the exit with Massimo. When Julian and Massimo left the place, Vanessa had been released and immediately ran over to Diego who had been laid to the ground. Vanessa’s cries immediately sounded loud when she managed to hug her son’s lifeless body, Diego’s blood still dripping wet the prisoner’s clothes he was wearing. Vanessa continued to say Diego’s name and asked the child to get up, Vanessa put Diego’s head in her left hand, like holding a newborn baby.

"Wake up honey, wake up...don’t leave Mommy."

"Good boy Diego, wake up my dear. Mommy is alone dear, Mommy is scared."

Diego, who is dead, of course, will not listen to all of Vanessa’s words, his tightly closed eyes look so serene. His face which was now covered in blood from his mother’s palm remained calm in eternity, leaving Vanessa who was in so much pain.

"Wake up Diego, we’ve started this together... our fight isn’t over yet dear, wake up Diego... wake up!!"
