His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 311: The Hates.
Chapter 311: The Hates.
As she requested, Diego changed locations. He drove her to the mall closest to the hospital and helped her to highlight the car.
Arissa picked up her purse and highlighted the car. Immediately she came out to the view of the people, they began to talk in hushed voices.
Some even went as far as pointing fingers at her. Some gave her a look of disgust and very few gave her pitiful stares.
As the seconds ticked, more secrets about her father poured out massively into the internet and people openly knew more crimes their once saint committed. And now, proofs and evidence about Adele not being his biological but a stolen daughter aired out together with how Adele was sexually abused. It was a hard sight for the citizens to watch.
Currently, now, Arissa was known to be the only Lincoln heir, and one fact that traveled among the citizens was the fact that Alfred’s blood flowed in her and nothing would stop her not to turning out to become a monster like her father. They stared at her consciously and took steps back.
Arissa noticed all of this the moment she left the car. She scanned the place and viewed the people around before struggling with her emotions. Putting on a strong facade, she shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly.
She walked into the mall in the company of Diego and luckily, the people inside focused on their purchase while the few who took notice of her just snickered and the remaining gave her neutral expressions with small smiles.
The staff acted much better and to her surprise, the news played on all live broadcasts she could find in the mall, and with each turn and curve she made, the voices from the anchors and the hushed voices around resounded in her mind. She struggled with them.
What terrified her the most was the fact that teenagers stayed away and for little kids, their mum would draw them to themselves.
Her zeal to shop for a few things died off and she immediately regretted stepping out for fresh air. The stuffy air in the car felt better than the air she felt at the moment.
Diego saw this treatment and he did his best to block the phone cameras pointed at her by forming a human wall beside her.
He regretted making a suggestion but contrary to how the people acted, Arissa looked calm and level-headed without acting like she was the one being hated on and pointed at for nothing.
Arissa walked through the lobby with Diego and before either of them would be able to stop it, a man placed his hand on Arissa’s shoulder from behind.
She gently turned to the direction of the touch and her heartbeat drooped. Diego who was so focused on making her comfortable paused when he felt that she was no longer walking.
Arissa recognizes the man to be Richard. Her strong facade immediately died off and she took a step towards her cousin and threw herself into his arms. Tears stood in her eyes.
Richard wrapped his arm around her back so tight and hugged her back. He placed a light kiss on her head and said, "I’m so mad at you," his voice carried annoyance in it but still, he clutched her tight.
"I know," Arissa murmured from his chest. Unable to hold it in for so long, she let out a low chuckle, accompanied by small silent tears.
Richard dropped small pats on her back, "That’s okay. I’m so sorry for sending you out of my house the way I did. I’m so sorry we fought for a long time," he apologized.
Arissa kept mute. She half expected Richard to apologize first and now he did, she could only stay speechless. His words comforted her and she appreciated each of them but they did not make her feel any less guilty.
She felt so guilty that her small tears became sobs and when her silent cries turned into a sob, Richard let go of the bag he was holding and parted the hug.
He held both sides of her crying face and placed a kiss on her forehead, "You don’t have to be this hard on yourself. You did nothing wrong and I understand why you kept me in the dark.... It did hurt but I now understand. My only unhappiness was that you did not let me fight with you,"
Arissa smiled, "I’m so sorry about that," she apologized, "I also wish I had you around when the days were so stormy,"
Richard wiped her tears with his thumb, "You have me now. Just don’t keep secrets from me anymore, no matter how dangerous it might be,"
Arissa nodded and viewed the lobby and to her relief, it was empty.
Richard saw how she looked around the place and he bent down to pick up the bag he once dropped to the floor. He smiled at her and brought out the face cap and nose mask from the bag.
He handed the cap over to her, "Here, I saw the weird stares and had to get this. Ignore them, it would only last for a few days and soon, everyone would forget about hatting on you because it makes no sense. I’m lucky to have seen you," he said, putting the mask and face cap on her to protect her appearance.
Arissa smiled and then she giggled. Richard’s care was so heartwarming and it made her remember all they shared when they were little.
Arissa stared at him as he made sure she would look hardly recognized. Something came to her mind and then, she said, "Let’s go and see Adele, I’m sure she misses you,"
"Indeed," Richard smiled and placed a light pat on her head, "I’m sorry you all had to go through tough times like this alone." he held Arissa into his arm like a protective older brother and walked away from the lobby with Diego behind them.
