His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 344: Fate Plays Nasty.
Chapter 344: Fate Plays Nasty.
Geal chuckled alongside her laughter. He never had chances to tease Nicklaus all the years they were together while growing up and now, the chances are unlimited and he does not want to stop.
The feeling he gets from teasing Nicklaus feels so great. He wishes Mrs. Wyatt was here to experience him teasing her aloof son. They all thought it would never have happened.
Well, a lot of things going on in Nicklaus’s life now weren’t predicted and they are all happy about the changes.
Geal sighed dramatically, "Well, for your sake, I won’t give him high charges. I want my niece and nephews to eat good meals before and after their arrival," he sounded considerate even if he can’t wait to laugh his ass out.
Much to Geal’s disappointment, Nicklaus did not react to Geal’s words. He only took the lid off the plate before him and stared at the meal provided on the plate. He has never tasted Geal’s meal since Mrs. Wyatt cooks great and he never saw it as something he should have done. To him, eating home-cooked meals prepared by a guy friend felt like they were practicing gay for some unknown reasons.
Thinking back at how far he had come and the changes he had undergone, Nicklaus realized that indeed he never saw any of the things he just accomplished coming. Soon he would stand before the priest in a chapel, waiting to take the hand of the woman he loves in his so they would seal the vows before God and man. Soon he would go on his honeymoon with her. Soon he would have someone to call him father. Soon he would help someone take his or her first step. Soon he would have kids running around the house. Soon he would have kids to jump all over him when he returned from work. Soon he’d become a granddad and soon, he’d grow old with the woman seated beside him.
All these soon weren’t part of the life he planned for himself. He never expected any of it but the woman beside him made all of them possible by walking towards him that night. The reason why he said she made it possible and not the contract arrangement was because the contract could be with anyone but the feelings he felt with her on the night they met can’t be felt with someone else. He felt pulls from her, she drew him in on that first night they met and those immediate pulls caused him to be overly gentle with her even when she steps on him.
Considering the fact he had never dreamt or wished for any of these, his whole heart loved her over and over again and his love for her deepened in seconds.
Fuck! He loves Arissa and she can’t understand how much he does. For the first time in his life, he demanded something from God again after a very long time. He requested something with faith from his long-forgotten creator and that which he asked was for God to grant him life to be able to take proper care of Arissa.
He does not wish anything else in this world than to make her happy. He would chase her happiness because her happiness was all he needed.
Nicklaus gazed at Arissa softly, ’Life isn’t fair,’ he thought.
The reason why such a thought came to him was because he remembered all had said to himself, the vows he placed, and the suffering he had gone through. He vowed never to have something to do with a woman but now, he wanted everything to do with one of them. The funny part about all of it was that he couldn’t even breathe when she wasn’t near and it amazed him the power she has over him.
The fact that he found his happiness from within through a contract marriage made him acknowledge how nasty fate can be and he finally decided to give her some respect and took his curse words to her from the other day back.
Not knowing the thoughts that ran through Nicklaus’s mind, the two people in the dining hall with him continued their conversation.
"That’s so thoughtful and sweet of you," Arissa remarked placing her left hand on Nicklaus’s hand that was visible on the table. She turned to him, "My husband cooks great and I think he refrained from cooking because he was saving his sweet talent for me. Right, Honey?"
Nicklaus smiled at Arissa. Pulling out of his thoughts, he decided to be shameless and nodded in acceptance, taking sweet credit from her.
Arissa rubbed Nicklaus’s palm and with a smile, she raised her fork to his lips and fed him from it. When he took the meal into his mouth, she leaned in for a kiss and Nicklaus readily gave her a light and brief one.
Geal rolled his eyes, seeing through Arissa’s cover-up for her husband but that did not change the fact that they had been so lovey-dovey before him and this made him want someone beside him also. He can’t watch his friend flaunting his wife before him and taking credits for what he never did.
He also needs someone to pamper him this way as Arissa does with Nick. He was also curious about how that feeling felt.
He hopelessly leaned back on his seat and watched them like one interesting piece of entertainment.
With that smile across his lips, Nicklaus looked dashing and Arissa felt butterflies in her stomach for the thousandth times today. Damn, Nicklaus was making her feel like a teenager again.
"So he cooks?" Geal brought the topic up again and watched them as Arissa broke away from any charm Nicklaus had on her and sat straight in her seat.
Nicklaus rolled his eyes at his friend proudly, "I do. Have an issue with that?"
Geal shook his head, "I don’t have an issue with that. If he can cook so much as much as you both claim, which is so surprising, why don’t he prepare a quick meal before us?" he was hellbent on laughing his ass out of Nicklaus. He believes Arissa won’t be able to save his friend this time or cover him up because he would stand and watch him throughout the cooking ordeal.
Nicklaus’s brows tightened, "Why should I do that?"
"Because you have to," Geal replied casually, and with a low shrug, he added, "I need evidence, even if I believe all my damsel have said,"
Arissa gulped, trying not to laugh when she saw the unacceptable expression on Nicklaus’s face after hearing Geal’s words.
For some reason, she does not feel like interfering and stepping in for Nicklaus again. She also wants to have a good laugh and Geal’s idea seems to be one to bring in a good laugh.
Nicklaus stared at Arissa but she did her possible best to avoid his gaze. She smiled as she munched slowly and at the sight of her dimple, Nicklaus knew he was on his own.
He faced Geal, "I have work to do, stop this madness at once," he scolded putting on a brave face.
Geal chuckled, "Madness? Do you call cooking for my Damsel madness?" his voice sounded serious and this got Arissa’s attention as she finally had her eyes fixed on Nicklaus.
"Geal_"
Nicklaus was cut off from his words by the notification sound coming from a phone. He recognized the sound to be that of his phone but decided to ignore it.
He let out a low sigh and turned to Arissa, "I never said_" The notification came in again and this time, it was triple. More flooded in and he cursed himself for not leaving the phone behind.
"That’s sounds urgent," Arissa pointed out.
Nicklaus nodded and reached for the phone in his pant pocket. Before he would fully draw the phone out, a call came through and at the sight of the caller, his face hardened.
He stretched his hand to Arissa and rubbed tenderly on her shoulder, "I’ll be right back," he muttered under his breath.
Arissa nodded in acknowledgment. Nicklaus rubbed his thumb on the crown of her head and left the dining room with his ringing cell phone.
Geal frowned at the urgency of the call and when he caught Arissa staring at Nucklaus departing back, he realized she had the same thought as his.
"It might be from work," he answered without being asked.
Arissa faced Geal, "Work-related could be from the higher-ups also, right?"
"It might," Geal agreed, "Now eat up, I don’t want my niece or nephew starving," he advised cheerfully, trying to lighten her mood.
Arissa passed him a dull gaze and said, "I’m not with a child yet. Tell me, is it right if I doubt the strength of Nicklaus’s love? He wants the best for his company and I seem to be getting in the way_"
"Hush!" Geal interrupted, "Don’t think that way. Nicklaus doesn’t say what he doesn’t mean or feel. When he said he loves you, he really does and I want you to push away all thoughts of uncertainty in you," he sounded convincing enough and Arissa calmed down a bit.
She bit on her life lip and nodded gently before digging into her meal in deep thought.
"Arissa, don’t let it get to you. You have the right to stay happy and if being with Nicklaus really makes you happy, I don’t want to see you looking this hopeless. It won’t be of any help to him if he sees you this way due to minor issues that could be solved," Geal advised when he saw sadness slowly creeping into her.
Meanwhile.....
Nicklaus walked far away from his dining hall. Getting to the position his piano was situated at, he answered the caller.
"Honourable Mr. Wyatt, it took you such a long time to reply," the caller spoke through the other end the second Nicklaus replied.
Nicklaus’s eyes hardened and his jaw clenched, "I can see you’ve gotten some guts. What made you think you’re allowed to contact me?" he asked, venom sipping off each word that left his lips.
