Chapter 36: Make them pay

After spending two hours on her laptop, Arissa massaged her nape and cracked her knuckles. She has spent moments searching through her parent’s history but as usual, they’re spotless with no evil stain on them.

Looking at her wristwatch, it was already past eight. Her lips tightened realizing that she now have to eat a late-night dinner but at least, that was great because she would be alone.

"Blu." she called the cat close to her who meowed in response, "Do you think Adele would be okay?" she asked gaining strength from the cat’s response.

The fact that Arissa always wanted a cat was something everyone close to her knows about but her parent’s strong rejection of pets made it impossible to have a cat in that house so, while abroad, the first thing she did after settling was to get this wonderful company.

Blu. was an all-white spotless cat with soft furs so nice for one to touch with beautiful striking sea blue eyes and that was also the reason she was called Blu. and she is also extremely well reserved and shy and that is one of the reasons Arissa does her possible best not to crowd her with a lot of people.

Arissa lay down on the bed as she looked up at the calming ceiling of a cloudy sky, "Would you like to visit Adele tomorrow?"

Since Blu. was seated on the bed just looking at her, she sat up and cradled Blu. into her arms," You have grown so big. Mama can’t carry you with no issues any longer," she complained playfully with a pout.

The cat purred in response and let out a playful smile, Arissa fell on the bed with a giggle, and in an instant, Blu. walked on her as it snuggled its face with hers.

Holding the arm of the cat, she raised it off her face, " Am sorry for being too busy," she apologized to the cat.

Blu. purred in delight as it snuggled up into Arissa’s neck. Arissa stroked Blu. fur as she also took comfort from her.

And then, her phone beeped with a notification. She sat up with Blu. and with Blu. now positioned on her lap, she picked up her phone, and seeing the files sent to her from an anonymous number, her face hardened immediately with recognition.

She took Blu. off her lap and placed her on the bed before picking up her laptop.

Re-scanning the files, she transferred them all to a disk after making sure that her pay sent her exactly what she needed.

There was a little sad light in her eyes as she realized that she would be the one sending her parents out to jail the moment this evidence are complete but they called for it.

Had it been they did not trick her to force her into marriage, restrict her freedom, and do all their evil to Adele, she would have still been abroad and everything would have been okay.

She would not have cared about knowing all of these but now that they asked for it, she would make sure she fish out every single piece of their deeds and make them pay for them with heavy tears and sweat.

Arissa walked out of her room the moment she finished transferring the files. Blu. was already sleepy so she let her be while she just walked out of her room. She needs a little air to be okay right now.

There are more deeds her parents have committed in secret and to her expectations, her uncle’s death was linked to her parents but surprisingly, it was more linked to her mother than her father, and the fact that most of the cops are allies with them made her more confessed on what to do.

But, one thing is sure. Jail would be at their door soonest.

Closing her door lightly behind her, she looked at the door before her. As usual, the lights in it are still off and she wonders times if he lives in this house with them.

She tied the belt of her lacy purple nightrobe firmly before walking over to the elevator.

Getting downstairs, she went straight into the kitchen and picked out ingredients. She can’t eat Mrs. Wyatt’s food because the woman loves spice a lot and eating spicy meals is a big challenge to Arissa ever since she was little.

Arissa heard movements coming toward the kitchen. Thinking it was Mrs. Wyatt, she turned around to her but surprisingly, it was her striking damn husband standing at the door in a casual outfit.

"You cook," Nicklaus said from the door more like a confirmation before walking into the kitchen and to the fridge opposite Arissa.

Arissa turned to him and back to the kitchen cabinet as she stretched her hands and took out an ingredient. She likewise brought out a couple of vegetables and dropped them all on the kitchen island.

Arissa packed her hair into a messy bun first before turning over to Nicklaus noticing he was still in the same space as her and even sat comfortably on one kitchen counter seat watching her every move.

Remembering their first encounter and all encounters, Arissa’s expression changed per his presence, "I thought you can’t stand me," Arissa said as she washed her hand in the sink and went back to the kitchen island.

Nicklaus’s expression remained unreadable after hearing her. He can stand her currently since she isn’t so edgy and questioning. He was about to use his piano when he saw her descending the staircase.

"Who made dinner tonight?"

He asked rather than saying something concerning her previous statement.

Arissa blinked at hearing his question, "Your mother," she answered with a blunt voice and Nicklaus’s eyes tightened as she was going down her annoying lane.

"My mother doesn’t make spicy meals when am in,"

"Well, she did today," Arissa affirmed.

Nicklaus’s eyes watched as her delicate hands sliced the onions skillfully and back at her more attractive body enhanced with the night robe she was putting on and effortless beauty.

But, if Arissa did not make the meal, then why did his mother say she did?

He scoffed at his stupid self that rushed back only to be tricked by his mother and not only that, the food was extremely spicy.

They stared silently for a while and only Arissa’s finger moved on her ingredient and the dishes can be heard.

"You don’t like spicy meals," Nicklaus noted from his observations and how she strictly avoided all spicy-related ingredients.

And obviously, that was the reason why she might not have been at the dining.

"Yes," Arissa answered with a tired voice, more like his presence was a disturbance.

Another prolonged silence ensured with Nicklaus watching all of her moves with a little bit too much interest.

Arissa took the pan off the cooker and placed it on the kitchen island, "Do you care for some?" she asked as she stopped her actions and turned over to Nicklaus who she ghosted like he was wasn’t there with her.

"No," Nicklaus gave her a curt reply and Arissa could only raise her brow as he stood up and walk out of the kitchen like he wasn’t the one watching her moves just now like he was learning from her.

Taking her eyes off his retracting back, she looked down at her meal and placed some into a plate for herself since she has no company.
