His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 405: Lost
Chapter 405: Lost
"Are you done dear?" Mrs. Wyatt rushed up to Arissa the moment she caught sight of her walking out of the ward.
Standing before Arissa, she gently pulled her into her arms and patted her back gently.
"You look pale," Mrs. Wyatt said in the hug, "Let’s go home so you can rest properly,"
Arissa pulled away from the hug. There were times when Mrs. Wyatt’s care would hurt her and now, they did. Sometimes, Mrs. Wyatt’s care leaves her broken and depressed, wishing she had grown up with such a great amount of love.
She stared at the older woman for a short while before smiling at her. Tiling her head to where Mr. Adams stood professionally, she said, "Right, we should get going. I’d show you the test results and all of it on our way back home."
They had barely walked out of the hospital when a child ran towards her and held her as if his life depended on it.
They were all taken aback, especially Mr. Adams who was all set to drag the boy away from Arissa. However, Arissa felt something was wrong with the boy and paid attention to him.
Arissa smiled when the child held her as if to protect himself. Her hold around the boy became protective and she immediately paid attention to his body language.
"You don’t have to be afraid, I won’t let anyone hurt you," she assured the boy and walked over to the closest bench to sit on. Mrs. Wyatt and Mr. Adams followed behind her.
Arissa sat on the bench and allowed the boy to hide his face on her chest. Arissa’s eyes became worried.
She raised her face to Mrs. Wyatt asking what next she should do. Mrs. Wyatt let out a low breath and instructed her to continue stroking the child’s back.
After a while, the boy calmed down. He raised his face to Arissa and gently played with her hair. Arissa smiled and gave him time to calm down completely.
"I want to go to my Mummy," the boy’s voice came out innocently after a while.
Arissa took in a sigh of relief. Her face brightened up. "Right, let go. Where’s your Mum?" She questioned giving Mr. Adams an alert look.
The boy stopped playing with Arissa’s hair and turned away from her. He raised his small hand and pointed to a distance, "She’s over there,"
Arissa gulped when he pointed into the restaurant. Looking into the restaurant, everyone seated there looked relaxed. No one looked as if they were searching for their child.
"Umm," Arissa cleared her throat, "What happened? Why are you here, why did Mummy leave you?" Her voice came out gentle as she embraced the boy protectively.
The boy turned to her and returned to playing with her hair. He looked into her eyes and blinked innocently, "I don’t know," his voice was hardly out but Arissa heard him correctly.
"Okay," Arissa straightened her legs, "We will take you to Mummy," she said standing up.
The boy’s expression immediately changed and his expression turned watery, "Would this bad man come with us?" he asked innocently, pointing towards Mr. Adams.
Arissa swallowed. Mr. Adams was supposed to follow her around but if it would inconvenience the child, then he should stay back. She believes the boy’s mother won’t be so far away.
"Stay back, Mr. Adams," she ordered.
The boy buried his face into Arissa’s shoulder and let out a ghostly smile. He raised his face and stared at Mrs. Wyatt. Mrs. Wyatr smiled at him and he returned it with a baby frown.
"And her. I don’t want her following us either. I only want you," he said and began to sob again.
Arissa smiled and stroked his back. She believed he must be a bit scared. Kissing the boy on his forehead, she nodded.
"They won’t join us. I would take you to your Mum myself," she promised him.
Mr. Adams frowned hearing her promise. "Arissa_"
Arissa turned around and faced him, "Please don’t trail behind. I’ll return the child to his mother and return before you know it. He’s just a child," she begged.
Mr. Adams parted his lips to argue but Mrs. Wyatt touched his arm and beat him into it, "Alright dear. Be quick so you can eat,"
Arissa nodded. She turned away from them and walked away with the child. She made sure to be gentle to make the child more comfortable with her.
The boy peeped at Mr. Adams from Arissa’s shoulder. An evil smirk creeped out of his face when he saw the man standing at his position as the woman carrying him had ordered.
His smirk wiped off his face and he let down his eyes the moment Mr. Adams locked eyes with him. His stomach crumbled and he remembered his mother’s promise to him before asking him to walk into the hospital.
"Should we do this?" Mr. Adams questioned Mrs. Wyatt when he saw Arissa walk into the restaurant, "I mean should I just stand here and watch?" He felt worried.
Mrs. Wyatt smiled, "You and Nicklaus worry too much. That’s just a child and before you know it, she’s out here again with us," she said.
Mr. Adams frowned and looked ahead. His feet ached to move forward, especially when he saw Arissa going towards the kitchen with the boy in her hand.
"She’ll be such a good mother. Look at how attached the boy is to her in just a matter of seconds?" Mrs. Wyatt admired, smiling sweetly.
Her words managed to melt Mr. Adams’s heart. The corners of his lips lifted into a fast smile and he finally managed to relax. Taking a step backward, he joined Mrs. Wyatt on the bench and waited for Arissa to walk out of the kitchen and return to them.
"She doesn’t seem as if she would forgive me," Mr. Adams said in a low voice after some seconds of silence.
"She would," Mrs. Wyatt said not tearing her eyes off the restaurant glass, "She’s predictable but at the same time unpredictable," she took her eyes off the glasses and turned to him, "You should have said something earlier. She needed a father,"
"And I made sure to always be there for her,"
"Don’t justify your wrongs, Mr. Adams. She went through a lot," Mrs. Wyatt warned.
Mr. Adams swiped his head towards Mrs. Wyatt in guilt and their eyes met. Looking forward, he automatically ended the conversation.
