His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 409: Loss
Chapter 409: Loss
Arissa’s eyes were fixed on the bomb strapped to her wrist. The countdown on the timer scared her.
"No," she coughed, and tried to release her hand. Tears tolled down her eyes when he saw her growing stomach.
Everywhere was quiet. Not a single sound could be heard.
"Nicklaus!" She muttered, her eyes searching everywhere. Wasn’t he coming? Why wasn’t he here yet?
Mr. Adams rolled out of where he was hiding. "Arissa," he whispered, trying to signal her. He stared at the bomb strapped around her wrist, and drew in a deep breath.
Arissa turned slowly. She coughed out a sob when she saw Mr. Adams. Her brown eyes glistered with tears.
"Mr_" before she could say anything more, three kidnappers emerged from the shadows. Arissa breath agressively caught up in her throat when she saw them.
"You’re not taking her anywhere," one of them sneered, his eyes cold and hard.
Mr. Adams didn’t flinch. With a swift motion, he pulled out a gun and began to fire, taking down the kidnappers one by one.
Three more kidnappers came out of the shadows, and Mr. Adams found himself surrounded when more of them appeared.
"Seems Mr. Rhode knows how well to protect his price," he sneered, using his body as a human shield to block Arissa.
They won’t hurt her, since that was the instruction. Well, with so much bullets flying around, he can’t take chances.
The countdown timer on the bomb was getting closer to zero. Arissa’s heart was racing with fear as she watched what happened around her.
One of the men pointed his gun at her. Before he would pull the trigger, Mr. Adams grabbed the kidnapper’s hand and twisted it, releasing his grip from the gun.
The kidnapper raised his fist to hit. Mr. Adams shot him dead before he would think of doing anything.
Mr. Adams managed to grab one of the kidnappers and use him as a human shield. He fired his gun, taking down several more, and then made a break for Arissa.
The countdown timer was a few seconds to zero when Mr. Adams’s reached for Arissa. His hands moved swiftly, trying to disable the bomb, but it was clear he was running out of time.
Arissa’s eyes were fixed on the timer, her heart pounding in her chest. Was Mr. Adams going to be able to save her, or was it already too late?
Her baby!
Urgently, he ripped off his jacket and wrapped it around the bomb, trying to shield Arissa from the blast. Arissa’s eyes widened in horror as she realized what he was doing.
"No, Mr. Adams! No!" she screamed, her voice hoarse with terror. "You can’t do this! You can’t save me like this!"
Mr. Adams smiled, "I’ll always protect you, Arissa," he whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of the timer. "You’re like a daughter to me. I’ll do anything to keep you safe."
As the countdown reached its final seconds, Mr. Adams wrapped his arms around Arissa, holding her close. Arissa buried her face in his chest, her body shaking with sobs.
"I love you, Mr. Adams," she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"I love you too, Arissa," Mr. Adams replied, his voice filled with emotion. "Always remember that. No matter what happens, always remember that I love you."
The bomb exploded, its blast ripping through the air. Mr. Adams’s body absorbed the impact, shielding Arissa from the worst of it. Arissa felt a wave of heat wash over her, and she was thrown backward, her body slamming into the wall.
As the smoke cleared, Arissa stumbled forward, her eyes scanning the destruction. She saw Mr. Adams’s body, his eyes frozen in a permanent smile. She screamed, her voice echoing through the yacht, as she realized that he had given his life to save hers.
Arissa’s world went dark, her mind reeling with grief and shock. She had never felt such a deep loss before, and she didn’t know how she would survive without the man who had been like a father to her.
She stumbled forward, her body shaking with sobs. She fell to her knees beside Mr. Adams’s body, her hands grasping for his.
"Mr. Adams, no! Please don’t leave me!" she screamed, her voice hoarse with grief.
But Mr. Adams didn’t respond. He just lay there, his eyes frozen in a permanent smile. Arissa’s heart shattered into a million pieces as she realized that she would never see him smile again, never hear his voice, never feel his warm hug.
As the reality of her loss sank in, Arissa’s body shook with sobs. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of grief, unable to breathe, unable to think.
All she could do was hold Mr. Adams’s lifeless body in her arms, her heart shattered into a million pieces. She knew that she would never forget the sacrifice he had made for her, and that she would spend the rest of her life trying to make him proud.
Fatigue hit her hard, and she passed out before she could hold on.
...
Arissa’s eyes slowly opened, groggily taking in her surroundings. She was in a hospital room, surrounded by the beeping of machines and the soft murmur of voices. Nicklaus sat beside her, holding her hand and gazing at her with concern.
"Hey," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "Welcome back."
Arissa tried to speak, but her voice was hoarse and barely audible. Nicklaus handed her a glass of water, and she sipped it gratefully.
"What...what happened?" she asked, her memories hazy.
Nicklaus’s expression turned somber. He kissed her palm with tears in his eyes. He kissed a thousand times, his lips and eyes trembling.
Arissa’s eyes widened as the memories came flooding back. She remembered the bomb, Mr. Adams’, and the feeling of utter despair.
"No," she whispered, tears streaming down her face. "No, no, no."
Nicklaus pulled her into a tight hug, holding her as she sobbed uncontrollably.
"Our baby," Arissa muttered.
Nicklaus laughed softly. "Our baby is a fighter." He chuckled and held both sides of her face and met her eyes. "Our baby is kicking beautifully,"
The next few days passed in a blur. Arissa underwent treatment for her injuries, and Nicklaus stayed by her side every step of the way. The authorities launched an investigation into the kidnapping and bombing, and Arissa cooperated fully, eager to see justice served.
