How Did I Become an F1 Driver?-Chapter 124 - 93: The Dream of Joining Ferrari’s Junior Program Fulfilled Today
Lawson felt that he, as a head of Ferrari’s youth training, came personally to negotiate the contract with you as a driver; he’s given you all the respect and honor, surely you won’t let Renault take you away, Qin Miao?
"...Right now?" Qin Miao was a bit puzzled, isn’t there supposed to be some physical testing or whatnot? Why are they bringing the contract right away?
"It doesn’t have to be right now, but the sooner the better. Call me back once you’re ready."
Qin Miao was still somewhat confused, but agreed: "Okay, Mr. Lawson, I’ll call you back as soon as possible."
After hanging up the phone, Qin Miao still felt puzzled. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Why did Lawson suddenly come looking for him? Was it just because of the results he put out yesterday? But surely a lap time that other drivers can’t achieve wouldn’t make Ferrari’s head rush over overnight?
No matter how he thought, Qin Miao couldn’t figure out the reasoning.
At this moment, Qimeng also woke up due to Qin Miao’s movements, somewhat groggy she asked: "Honey... what’s going on?"
Lost in thought, Qin Miao didn’t even notice the change in the way Qimeng addressed him, and recounted what had just happened.
Even though she was still a bit sleepy, hearing Qin Miao talk about serious matters, Qimeng perked up and listened intently to his account.
After he was almost done, Qin Miao raised his question: "Why is he suddenly so focused on me? There must be some change, but what exactly it is, I’m not sure either."
Qimeng frowned, she didn’t know why Lawson was behaving this way either, but signing the contract early might not be a bad thing.
"I can’t figure it out, but I also feel there’s something we’ve overlooked," Qimeng paused before saying, "There must be a way when the time comes, since he’s so eager to have us sign the contract, let’s go and have a look."
After getting ready, by the time the two had finished packing, Zhou Guanyu was still asleep.
They left him a note explaining that they needed to go out for an affair, then Qin Miao and Qimeng left Zhou Guanyu’s house.
Leaving the house, Qin Miao made a call back to Lawson as promised.
Once connected, the other party gave Qin Miao an address.
Navigating via phone, it wasn’t too far, and after hailing a taxi on the road, the two headed to Lawson’s location.
However, after they got off the car, they found that it wasn’t the cafe foreigners liked to discuss things in, nor a restaurant preferred by Chinese for business talks.
What appeared in front of them was a law firm.
Even though it was only eight in the morning, the office was already open, with the sign lit.
Upon entering, Lawson was sitting at a reception area at the front desk, sipping on coffee. Judging by his somewhat darkened complexion, it seemed he hadn’t slept well the previous night.
Seeing someone push the door and enter, Lawson visibly tensed, and his face showed a sense of relief upon seeing Qin Miao.
But his expression changed slightly upon noticing Qimeng behind Qin Miao, which he quickly collected, smiling as he approached Qin Miao.
Although Lawson had seen Qimeng standing beside Qin Miao in Ferrari’s P room, Europeans have some degree of face blindness towards Asians and vice versa, so he didn’t recognize Qimeng at first.
Qin Miao introduced, "Mr. Lawson, this is my partner, Qimeng."
Before Lawson could react, Qimeng stepped forward, smiling and reaching out her hand to Lawson: "Hello, Mr. Lawson, nice to meet you, and thank you for valuing Qin Miao."
Once he confirmed her identity, knowing she wasn’t an outsider, Lawson also shook her hand with a smile, expressing admiration, "I really didn’t expect Qin could find such a beautiful and outstanding partner as Ms. Qiu, he must have put a lot of effort when he pursued you?"
Qimeng simply smiled appropriately: "Mr. Lawson, actually, it was I who pursued Qin Miao, but I believe you have more important matters to discuss with Qin Miao."
"Indeed." Lawson’s smile broadened: "Qin, the contract is ready for you, the law firm provided a notary, and there are lawyers to review the contract for you, now it’s just waiting for you to sign after you’ve reviewed it."
Qin Miao instinctively glanced at Qimeng.
She returned a look.
After spending time together, they have developed a tacit understanding, receiving his look, Qin Miao smiled and nodded before proceeding with Lawson into the room set up for signing contracts.
Then, with the introduction from the lawyer at the firm, Qin Miao learned the specific terms of his contract.
Qin Miao first understood the clauses he needed to abide by, as well as the obligations he must fulfill. He also heard the lawyer explain the benefits Ferrari needed to provide and the opportunities to compete.
There were many complex clauses, but after the lawyer’s review, Ferrari hadn’t laid any traps within the contract.
The contract duration is one year, but whether or not to renew after a year is up to Qin Miao. If other teams offer the same as Ferrari, then after a year Qin Miao must choose Ferrari.
After all, it’s a training contract for developing a driver; the salary is low, only a monthly pay of 5,000 euros, totaling 60,000 euros annually. Fortunately, Ferrari would pay Qin Miao’s taxes, so he wouldn’t have to give up any earned money.
