How To End This Marriage-Chapter 151: The Veiled Heiress
"Master, tell me what your next move is," Erios inquired as Duchess Bernice entered her room.
"That’s none of your concern," the Duchess snapped.
"It is my concern, Master. You are my concern. My sole purpose is to ensure your safety. I am bound to you because you cried out to me in pain. How can it not be my concern?" Erios pressed.
Duchess Bernice let out a humourless laugh. "Concern? You think this is the first time time has reversed?"
Erios’s brow furrowed. "This isn’t the first time? What do you mean? I only know about this regression."
Duchess Bernice’s voice hardened. "No, this isn’t the first time. The first time was my death. Executed in front of all Ablia, pelted with stones, my mother laughing, and my husband... sleeping with Princess Vixara." Her words dripped with bitterness. "This isn’t the first time I’ve returned. It’s happened twice already."
Erios’s eyes widened. "But my creator doesn’t know about this."
"Your creator? The Supreme God who rules the world? He doesn’t know about this?" the Duchess echoed, incredulous.
Erios nodded. "He’s only concerned about why you’ve returned when no one can change fate, written by the fate god Moiroi. You’ve defied that, causing chaos in Heaven Realm."
"Heaven Realm? I heard that in a dream..." the Duchess muttered, a flicker of doubt crossing her face.
"A dream? What dream?" Erios probed.
The Duchess shook her head. "Nothing. Imaginings." She straightened her shoulders. "You can return the prison key now."
"As you command, Master," Erios bowed and vanished.
Suddenly, Duchess Bernice found herself in Heaven Realm, face-to-face with the Lunar God, his brows furrowed in concern.
"Finally, you appear!" she smirked, a hint of defiance in her voice.
"That’s what I should be asking! Why couldn’t I contact you? Where did you disappear to, beyond even my reach?" the Lunar God demanded.
The Duchess’s smile widened. "Ask your Supreme God! He’s the one directing this play."
"The Supreme God hid you?" The Lunar God’s voice dropped to a whisper.
"Yes! He trapped me in a place I didn’t even know existed. But someone I know mentioned a Centurian Enchanted Circle, the most powerful in the world. It seems that’s where I was."
The Lunar God’s face paled. "That’s why I couldn’t reach you."
"Tell me why you called me here now?" Duchess Bernice’s voice hardened. "And tell me the truth about my regression! Why do I keep going back in time, suffering through it all again?"
The Lunar God stared at her, his gaze unreadable. "Regression? Isn’t it just once?" 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
The Duchess’s heart sank. "So you don’t know either?" she whispered, despair creeping into her voice.
"Tell me what you mean by going back in time again!" the Lunar God pressed, urgency lacing his voice.
The Duchess recounted her fragmented memories, the voice in the circle revealing her past lives. "A voice? Is it her?" the Lunar God interjected, his voice barely audible.
"Her? Who?" The Duchess’s confusion deepened.
"I have no clue either," admitted God Lunar, frustration edging his voice. "He mocks me constantly, appearing and disappearing in this realm at will. But she... she remains hidden from everyone."
Duchess Bernice had vanished from Heavenly Realm, leaving the Lunar God bewildered.
"She can do that again!" he exclaimed, still startled by her abrupt departure.
"She too can come and go as she pleases, as if she belongs here. Then why is she trapped in the mortal realm? Why isn’t she here? And why does the Supreme God despise her even more?" God Lunar mused aloud as Moiroi, the Fate God, materialized before him.
"Did you see her? Are you satisfied with your little interrogation?" Moiroi sneered.
"This isn’t what you think," God Lunar defended himself. "My concern is genuine. As a god, there’s much I remain ignorant of, and it complicates matters."
"So, what new clues have you unearthed?" Moiroi inquired, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"She can enter and leave Heavenly Realm at will," God Lunar stated. "And the Supreme God imprisoned her within the Centurian Circle!"
"Lastly," he added, "this isn’t her first time traveling back in time. It’s happened before."
Moiroi’s eyes narrowed. "Happened before? Why was I, the Fate God, unaware of this?"
"That’s precisely what I’m trying to understand," God Lunar replied. "Everything seems to revolve around her, and the Supreme God’s animosity towards her is palpable."
Moiroi vanished once more, reappearing in the Heavenly Library guarded by the ever-vigilant sentinel.
"Back again, Moiroi?" the guard greeted him with a knowing smile.
"Indeed," Moiroi confirmed. "Seeking answers, as always."
"But the locked door remains impenetrable," the guard reminded him, "until the true heir arrives."
"True heir?" Moiroi echoed, bewildered. "Are you suggesting the Supreme God, Marcus Fulcinius Eumenius, cannot unlock the door that’s been sealed for ages?"
The guard shook his head. "No."
"The true heir is not the Supreme God!" he exclaimed, the revelation dawning on him.
"Then who is it? Tell me!" Moiroi demanded, his voice rising in urgency.
The guard, however, remained unfazed. "Forgive me, but I cannot reveal more. My oath binds me to secrecy."
Frustration boiled over in Moiroi. "Why? If you know the true heir isn’t the Supreme God, why allow him to rule? He shouldn’t be on that throne!"
"Some truths cannot be spoken or revealed at will," the guard said calmly. "They emerge when the time is right. And that time is near. Be patient, for soon, all will be clear."
But Moiroi refused to be appeased. "No! This injustice cannot continue! The true heir deserves the throne!"
"Where will you find the true heir, Moiroi? Do you even know who it is? Can you imagine anyone more deserving of the throne?" the Heavenly Library guard inquired, a playful smile dancing on his lips.
Moiroi fell silent, his brow furrowed in deep thought. After a long pause, he raised his head, conviction burning in his eyes. "Yes," he declared, his voice ringing with newfound certainty, "I know who the true heir is."
The guard’s smile widened, a flicker of anticipation gleaming in his eyes. "You do? Are you sure?" he prodded gently.
Moiroi squared his shoulders, his gaze unwavering. "I am," he affirmed. "Bernice Balliol Agnes is the true heir to the Heavenly Throne."
