How To Lose Your Billionaire Alpha Husband In 365 Days (Or Less)!-Chapter 46: Check or Distract...
JASMINE’S POV
The warmth of the bathwater had faded from my skin, but my thoughts swirled hotter than ever.
I padded across the bedroom floor in a fresh robe, a towel wrapped around my damp hair, and stared at the soft moonlight spilling across the floor.
The day had been... intense.
Not just because Aiden decided to turn the living room into a boutiques just for me to shop without leaving the house.
Not because of the dinner or the rooftop view, or the way Aiden looked at me like I was the only thing anchoring him to this world, but because of what I was starting to feel.
And gods, I didn’t want to admit it.
Not when our entire marriage was born from a ridiculous, impulsive contract, one I had agreed to when I was drunk and wasted, trying to escape the engagement thrown on me.
Not when there were still so many things unsaid.
Elena’s voice haunted me like smoke curling through the cracks in my skull.
"She’s human, and the curse hasn’t even surfaced in years."
"But it’s still there. He’s a Frost after all, and the curse has been in their bloodline, and if it breaks—
Then the whole pack’s at risk," a deeper voice had finished.
I hadn’t brought it up, told or asked Aiden about it. Not yet. Maybe because I didn’t want to hear him lie, or worse... confirm it.
Was he cursed?
My scar hadn’t burned since I was preparing to leave for dinner earlier this evening. No more screaming shadows or whispered names. But the silence didn’t make me feel safe. It felt like the kind of quiet that comes right before the sky tears open.
A soft knock at the door snapped me out of it.
I hesitated. "Yeah?"
"It’s me," Aiden’s voice came through, low and soft. "Is it okay if I come in?"
I glanced at myself in the mirror. Just a robe. Damp hair. Slightly flushed cheeks.
Not bad.
"Uhm... sure."
The door creaked open, and he stepped in, pausing when his eyes found me.
He didn’t hide it; the slow, deliberate sweep of his gaze over the robe cinched around my waist. His jaw tightened, just a little.
"Didn’t realise you’d just stepped out of the shower," he said, trying and failing to sound casual.
I smirked. "That’s why you knocked, right? Hoping to catch a show?"
He lifted both hands in mock surrender. "Guilty. Though... I actually came to check on you."
"Check or distract?" I tilted my head.
"Can’t it be both?"
I stepped toward him, barefoot and still a little too warm. "Are you okay?" I found myself asking.
I don’t know why, but I felt something different in him since we returned.
"Yeah, why’re you asking?"
"I don’t know," I admitted. "I just felt this weird feeling since you walked in, like something is bothering you. Or you are thinking hard about something."
His eyes didn’t leave mine. "It’s nothing."
I arched a brow. "That sounds exactly like something."
He opened his mouth, then paused. "I just... don’t want to overwhelm you."
I took another step, deliberately slow. "Or you’re keeping secrets."
He didn’t answer.
I sighed. "This is why people don’t marry strangers."
Aiden chuckled, but there was no real humour in it. "Fair."
There was a beat of silence before I tilted my head, fake-innocent. "Well, if you’re not going to tell me anything useful..."
Then I "accidentally" loosened the knot on my robe.
It slipped open just an inch—enough to flash smooth skin and the barest glimpse of cleavage before I tugged it shut again with theatrical care.
His eyes darkened.
"Jasmine."
"Oops, sorry about that."
"You’re playing with fire."
"I’m married to a wolf, Alpha. I think I can handle the heat."
He stepped forward like gravity pulled him, his eyes never leaving mine. "Keep testing me, and I’ll remind you what happens when you poke at wolves."
My breath hitched, but I didn’t move.
But then... my phone buzzed.
I sighed dramatically and turned away, snatching it off the dresser, expecting Sophia’s snarky check-in.
But the name on the screen froze me in place.
Uncle Vale.
I glanced over my shoulder. "It’s a family thing. I’ll take it in the bathroom."
He nodded, watching me with something unreadable in his gaze.
I slipped into the bathroom and answered. "What do you want?"
"Is that any way to greet your dear uncle?" His voice was too calm. Too rehearsed.
"Cut to the chase, Uncle. We know you don’t just call to receive greetings."
"I have a file," he said smoothly. "One your parents kept hidden. It’s connected to Heart Enterprises. And maybe their deaths."
My stomach dropped.
"What kind of file?"
"A sensitive one," Vale said. "We’ll talk about it tomorrow. Alone. No husbands. No corporate meeting or fancy ball. Just you and me."
I hesitated. "Where?"
"I’ll text you the location. Don’t be late."
The call ended before I could ask more.
I stood there, phone still clutched in my hand, staring at my reflection in the mirror. My skin was still flushed, the scar on my collarbone faintly visible beneath the robe.
Everything was spinning too fast. And what did he mean, maybe their deaths? I thought it was all an accident... except... is it something more?
I tucked the thought away. Tomorrow.
For tonight... I opened the door and found Aiden still by the bed, pretending not to be frustrated.
"Crisis averted?" he asked dryly.
I smiled sweetly. "Just family being dramatic."
He didn’t press. Instead, he pulled back the covers and patted the space beside him.
"Come, let me put you to bed, wifey."
Wifey.
That word used to feel like a joke.
Now it felt like a promise I wasn’t sure I was ready to keep.
But I slipped under the covers anyway. Because right now, wrapped in tension and warmth and secrets we weren’t ready to share, there was still safety in the space between us.
And tomorrow... I’d face whatever Vale was hiding.
Even if it destroyed everything I was just starting to believe in.
