Chapter 727: Chapter 727: Everyone’s Role

In an instant, Lilith’s threads of fate began to undergo subtle changes. The layer of resistance surrounding them showed clear signs of loosening.

"Next will be Edward," Amon said leisurely. "I won’t just steal everything he has—I’ll turn him into one of my puppets. All of his secrets will be mine to use. What do you think?"

Lilith’s eyelashes began to tremble faintly.

"Don’t rush," Amon continued with a smile. "This is only the beginning. Do you really think that after everything Edward has done to me, I’d give him something as simple as a quick death?"

"I’ll make him pay a hundredfold—no, a thousandfold."

"I’ll replace his identity, sleep with his woman, beat his child."

"I’ll personally destroy everything he treasures."

"And I’ll force you to watch all of it with your own eyes."

Suddenly—

Lilith’s eyes snapped open inside the amber, blazing with fury as she glared at Amon.

"So you’re finally willing to wake up," Amon said softly.

"Then...if you don’t mind, I’ll be taking your fate now."

Lilith said nothing.

At last, as a flash of light burst forth, Amon successfully seized Lilith’s fate-threads and slowly drew them out. The instant his fingers left the amber, the theft of Lilith’s fate was already complete.

In that very moment, Amon felt as though he were holding the entire world in his hand.

It was as if limitless authority and power had descended upon him. As long as he was willing—so long as he accepted this fate—he could replace Lilith, replace Edward, even replace Li Li, and become the Oldest One.

Become the Creator above the Pillars.

That intoxicating sensation of absolute control over everything...

It was utterly irresistible.

Slap.

At that moment, someone grasped his hand.

It was Grisha Adam.

Amon instinctively tried to pull his fingers back—but suddenly, his mind cleared completely. He then smiled faintly.

"So even I almost fell for it, huh?"

He looked at Grisha·Adam and said, "Are you sure you can withstand Its temptation?"

"I’m not sure," Grisha Adam replied honestly.

After a brief pause, a trace of a smile appeared on his face. "But I remain very confident in my ability to suppress the Oldest One consciousness."

Amon raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

"Because the Primordial One hidden deep within my consciousness," Grisha Adam said calmly, "may well be one of the beings in this world least willing to see the Oldest One revive."

"If Celestial Worthy were to revive, they would at worst fight once more. But if the Oldest One revives, everything will converge into one—leaving the Primordial One with no chance of ever turning the tables again."

"Perhaps after an extreme convergence, the Oldest One would split once more—but the God Almighty born from that split would no longer be Him."

"If you were the Oldest One," he asked softly, "what would you choose to do?"

A look of surprise crossed Amon’s face.

"Oh? So this is killing two birds with one stone?"

"Using the ’Oldest One’ to suppress the ’Primordial One,’ while also using the ’Primordial One’ to complete the suppression of the ’Oldest One’?"

"You planned all of this from the very beginning?"

Grisha Adam did not answer.

He took the fate-thread from Amon’s hand. The surrounding space rippled in waves as the thread touched his palm, rapidly coiling upward and merging into his skin.

In an instant, a strange light flashed through his eyes. His aura grew deep and heavy, as though he were establishing a connection with some ancient and mighty power. Endless voices echoed within his mind.

Yet he remained utterly unaffected.

He simply closed his hand gently.

Around his body, threads of fate intertwined with his own power, forming a vast vortex of energy. Within it, Grisha Adam’s figure flickered in and out of sight. His expression was pained—yet resolute—as he extended his hand toward Lilith.

A brilliant radiance erupted from the vortex, illuminating the entire space.

In the next instant, his consciousness was dragged into a boundless void.

There was no time.

No space.

Only endless chaos and whispering.

The whispers seemed to come from the farthest reaches of the universe, carrying ancient and oppressive power as they attempted to corrode his will. Every syllable was like a razor-sharp blade, slicing into his soul, trying to tear him apart piece by piece.

"You...cannot resist..."

"Do not resist...the Oldest One exists within everyone. Anyone can become the Oldest One."

"Embrace me, and you will obtain the power to rule the world."

"..."

A vast, cold voice echoed within his mind.

It was the consciousness of the Oldest One—the supreme existence born at the dawn of the universe. Its power was like an endless galaxy, boundless and overwhelming, nearly swallowing Grisha Adam’s consciousness whole.

He felt his thoughts being torn apart. Memories, will—everything was being devoured by that force. It felt as though countless hands were dragging at his body.

Yet he faced all of it calmly.

Gripping the cross at his chest, he transformed into a mass of golden light and pressed down heavily upon the Oldest One’s consciousness.

His awareness grew increasingly chaotic, increasingly faint—like a candle flame in the wind, on the verge of being extinguished at any moment.

And at that very moment—

A faint yet icy light rose from the deepest recesses of his heart.

It was the consciousness of the Primordial One.

It possessed neither warmth nor emotion—only an icy, absolute rationality.

The power of the Primordial One surged forth from the deepest depths of Grisha Adam’s soul, colliding head-on with the consciousness of the Oldest One. The two forces intertwined and clashed within his awareness, as though the birth and annihilation of the universe were being reenacted at the same instant.

Everything unfolded exactly as Adam had anticipated.

The Primordial One would never allow the will of the Oldest One to awaken.

At any cost, by every possible means, It would force the Oldest One back into complete slumber.

Before long, the two consciousnesses became entangled—mutually resisting, mutually cancelling each other out—as they plunged toward the deepest abyss. Grisha Adam then allowed his own consciousness to transform into a towering mountain, sealing off that bottomless chasm.

"It’s over..."

As the light gradually faded, Amon saw that Grisha Adam was now encased within the amber. He slowly opened his eyes. At this moment, his aura was so faint it was nearly nonexistent, yet his gaze carried a serenity and resolve that transcended everything.

"Goodbye, Amon."

With those words, he gently closed his eyes.

The already-vanishing aura disappeared completely.

Amon watched all of this with an expressionless face and said indifferently, "After going around in such a huge circle...it still ends like this, huh?"

He suddenly looked up at the sky.

"How boring."

At that moment, Lilith landed lightly. She glanced back once at Grisha Adam, then took a single step forward and vanished.

———

Edward’s consciousness began to blur under Li Li’s assault, as though he were falling into an endless ocean of memories. Countless rivers of memory flowed around him, each shimmering with different scenes—

Yet something was profoundly wrong.

Within all of them, there was no trace of Edward himself.

Only Li Li, and the lingering imprints of the Oldest One.

"What are you looking for?"

Li Li’s voice echoed from every direction. "Your memories? Your existence? Unfortunately, they’ve already been erased by me."

Edward raced frantically through the rivers of memory, desperately searching for his own traces. But every time he approached one, an invisible force shoved him away.

Li Li’s consciousness clung to him like a shadow, constantly disrupting his efforts.

"Give it up. Accept the will of the Oldest One," Li Li coaxed. "You’ll become the new Creator, and I’ll fuse with you, becoming part of your consciousness. In the end, the one who controls everything will still be you."

Cracks began to appear across Edward’s spirit body. He felt himself being assimilated by Li Li—or rather, by the Oldest One’s will—on the verge of being replaced at any moment.

Suddenly, a glimmer of understanding flashed through Edward’s eyes.

He raised his hand and extracted wisps of white light from his own mind, scattering them toward the rivers of memory.

In an instant, all the memory rivers twisted violently. The false images were peeled away, revealing the genuine traces beneath.

"You think that’s enough?"

Li Li’s figure abruptly appeared before Edward, holding a silver mirror. Within it were reflected countless Edwards—each one endlessly repeating a doomed fate. Only a single image showed Edward successfully advancing beyond the Sequence, ascending as a Creator.

Edward hurled a punch.

The silver mirror exploded, its fragments turning into starlight that scattered and vanished throughout the memory world. Li Li’s figure blurred with it—yet quickly reformed once more.

"No matter how you struggle," Li Li said coldly, "you can’t resist the convergence between us, nor can you stop the awakening of the Oldest One consciousness. Why bother?"

She extended Her hand, and a black seed appeared in Her palm.

"This is the will of the Oldest One," She said, Her voice laden with temptation. "Accept it, and you will transcend everything."

Edward’s spirit trembled. The aura emanating from the black seed was irresistible. Just as he was about to touch it—

Lilith’s face suddenly surfaced within one of the memory rivers. She smiled brightly, her eyes gleaming with that familiar light.

"No!!!"

Li Li’s furious roar erupted from deep within.

The combined power of the Chaos Sea and the River of Eternal Darkness surged forth—but at the critical moment, it veered off course, brushing past Edward’s body instead. The surrounding void detonated like a powder keg, and countless rivers of memory were reduced to dust.

"Hello, Li Li...no—Oldest One."

Lilith’s voice echoed from the depths of Li Li’s consciousness. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Li Li, enraged and nearly mad, tried desperately to tear Lilith’s consciousness apart. But by now, Adam’s suppression of the Oldest One’s will had already become an established fact, forming an irresistible force of attraction that dragged this severed portion of the Oldest One’s consciousness back into slumber.

"No..."

In that instant, Li Li felt as though Her consciousness had sunk into a mire. Every struggle grew harder, Her awareness fading rapidly.

At the very moment, Li Li’s consciousness blurred—

Edward seized the opportunity.

His spirit body erupted with dazzling brilliance. Countless points of starlight burst forth from within him, weaving scene after scene across the memory world—images of people from different eras, different places, different identities.

Together, they formed Edward’s anchors, supporting his mind and will, restoring him to complete clarity.

As Li Li’s consciousness was dragged into full suppression along with the Oldest One by Adam, Edward’s spirituality suddenly began to surge violently—

A crisis, originating from the Mirrored Original Creator!

Lilith stepped out from the River of Time itself. Weariness lingered on her face, yet she smiled gently.

"Edward," she said softly, "I’ve fulfilled my duty. Now it’s your turn."

Edward froze.

Suddenly, he recalled the words Adam had spoken earlier:

Remember—each of us only needs to play the role we are meant to play, and fulfil the duty we are meant to fulfil.

So that line...wasn’t meant for me alone?

Taking a deep breath, Edward gathered every remaining fragment of imagination within the memory space and absorbed it entirely into himself.

He leapt out of the current dimension and timeline—

And arrived at a future that had finally become clear.

At the far end of time, another version of himself sat quietly, having waited for a long time already.
