Chase nodded back at Nairi, who waved at him as she sat down at a table after getting hot and sweaty with her Beta on the dance floor. Kane followed her like a puppy dog and didn’t mind following after her obsessively. The well-known stoic and moody Beta was also well known for his puppy-like behaviour towards his mate.

One of his warriors froze on the spot after joking with his friend about their Beta’s behaviour with Nairi and didn’t realise the pair were walking past once, watching over the training. Everyone looked at Kane expectantly, like he was going to cause havoc at them for not training properly. Instead, he just smiled lovingly at Nairi.

"Well, they’re not wrong."

Everyone relaxed, and the warriors chuckled nervously. Still smiling, Kane told them to do a ten-mile run because they had enough energy to gossip whilst training. Kane didn’t care about his image with Nairi, it just meant he was obsessed with his mate, and she made him a better man. Others sighed at the sight of the pair together. It was the ’perfect’ relationship.

Again, he didn’t care about labels such as ’perfect’ because most mates acted the same. It was only because of his usual nature as the Beta that made everyone watch them so much. Or not watch them that much because they were always in their lovey-dovey world.

Now, Kane sat beside Nairi and pulled her onto his lap, kissing the side of her neck and snuggled his nose into the corner of her neck and collarbone, inhaling deeply. Nairi giggled and clutched his hand that had rested on her hip tightly.

"Kane, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.." Nairi suddenly became serious, staring down at him as she caressed his jawline. Kane was now enchanted even more by watching her. He wanted to take her back to their room, away from everyone else, so he could have her all to himself.

Instead, he listened intently. Not only because of the small smile on her lips and the nervous yet delighted expression on her features, but their inner wolves were growing excited like they were wagging their tails and chasing each other already. They’d been so secretive lately, and he’d found it hard to get any intel from his wolf. It was frustrating.

"There’s never been the right time TO tell you.. so here goes.." Nairi exhaled slowly.

Kane couldn’t bear to see her so nervous. "Hey.." He cupped her cheek. "You know you can tell me anything. We’re a team."

He moved his face to kiss her hand that stroked his jaw.

Nairi chuckled lightly and nodded. "Yes.. Yes.. I’m so silly.. Well.. Here goes: I’m pregnant."

Kane’s eyes widened, his breath halted, and slowly he looked down at Nairi’s belly that he’d been gripping tightly. He instantly lessened his hold, and a smile split across his face, brightening it so much as he lowered his face to her belly. "You’re carrying my pup?"

Nairi nodded with a bright smile as she stared down at Kane, already hugging her flat belly. "Umhmm, that’s right," she whispered. He looked up at her in amazement before looking at her belly.

"So this is what our wolves hid from me? He will grow to be big and strong like his father," Kane grinned and kissed her belly.

"And what if the baby is a girl?" Nairi giggled, shaking her head.

Kane slowly started kissing from Nairi’s belly up her torso and neck and lastly stopped before her face, his hands now in the nape of her hair. "Then she will grow up strong and beautiful like her mother."

Kane kissed her lightly, then held her face to his and deepened the kiss, feeling overjoyed by this news.

Pup, baby, mother.. Father.. it all sounded so foreign yet right to Kane’s ears. "I’m going to be a dad.." he whispered, their foreheads touching, staring at one another. "We’re going to be parents."

Kane grinned some more, mirroring Nairi, who nodded slightly. "That’s right, we’re going to be parents."

"WHAT!?"

Kane and Nairi turned their heads at the same time to see Aila and Damon stopped and staring at them wide-eyed. Aila’s expression was the first to break into a grin, swiftly followed by Damon’s.

"Ah, maybe we should have mind-linked," Nairi muttered with a slightly nervous, low laugh, her eyes darting to Kane.

It was still early into the pregnancy, but Nairi couldn’t wait any longer to keep it from her mate. Her wolf had been urging her each day, stating he would be over the moon. She knew he would be, but she was anxious about anything going wrong.

"Oh.." Aila slipped her arm around Damon’s and stopped him from going towards the couple. "We are NOT about to ruin this moment for you. Please.. go on. We didn’t hear anything."

"But-" Damon gestured towards Kane and Nairi, about to argue, but then he saw Aila’s meaningful look and what looked like a conversation through a mind-link before he sighed and shook his head. His displeasure was quickly replaced with his version of a puppy dog look as he followed after Aila, his hand spreading over her waist, keeping her situated close to his body.

Damon was thrilled to hear his best friend’s news and wanted to congratulate the pair. But like what Aila just mind-linked him, it wasn’t the right time. Nairi just told Kane, and they needed to have the moment alone.

He looked back at the pair, who were once again in their own little love bubble. Kane was hugging Nairi’s flat belly, looking up at her like she was a goddess, and she smiled down at him warmly. If anyone looked close enough, the pair were already giving away their news from the excitement beaming on their faces.

It was such a happy moment, and at their wedding at that!

"Don’t go getting ideas," Aila smirked as he twirled her around to face him. They were no longer near the dance floor, yet they still did something similar to a slow dance and a walk, gazing at each other like there was nobody else around.

Any music and background noise slipped away as they spoke to each other.

"I thought that was what the wedding night was for," Damon smirked back, his silvery eyes glittering in amusement.

Aila shook her head slowly, gliding her hands to the back of his neck and clasping them together. "Not yet," she whispered with a small smile.

Damon pouted but in jest before he closed the small gap between them and met her lips softly before too quickly pulling back, causing Aila to pout this time, wanting more from him. He smiled, replying, "No, not yet. But I want a small army when you can."

"An army!?" Aila pulled back, eyes wide, trying to gauge his reaction. "You’re joking!"

Damon burst into laughter at her expression. "Okay.. not an army, that’s a lot. Eight will do." He winked, and her mouth fell open wide.

"You’re definitely joking." Aila shook her head, still flabbergasted.

"Wolves have four to ten pups. Plus.. don’t you want to build the Cross family?" Damon joked, but there was some truth behind his words.

He didn’t mean to have that many kids, but he certainly wasn’t complaining. He wanted to have the packhouse full of more love and laughter, children giggling and screaming in fun. He didn’t have that growing up, but he would with his future family.

"Well.. Yeah.." Aila absently scratched the side of her face.

"Come on. We just got married. We don’t need to think about our future army of children," Damon joked again and chuckled lowly at Aila’s eyebrows rising high.

"Future army of children.." she muttered, shaking her head as she turned away, hand entwined with his as they started to walk towards the bar.
