HUNTED-Chapter 383: The Werewolf & the Huntress (2)
Ajax slapped Finn’s back and gripped his shoulder as he leaned closer just as Finn dropped the spoon of sugar in Sariah’s cup of coffee. "I thought you got some sugar last night!?"
Finn glared at him before glancing around the kitchen. There weren’t that many pack members awake, and those there couldn’t possibly be classed as awake. They looked slightly hungover and half asleep. Of course, they all danced and drank away the night. He didn’t expect any less.
Ajax held his hands up and grinned. "What?! You’re acting like you haven’t. Shouldn’t you.. I don’t know.. have a spring in your step or something?"
Finn smirked at that as he turned around and leaned against the countertop before the kitchen island, the coffee machine at his back. "I did.. But Sariah has to return to work."
Ajax’s smile dropped at that. "What do you mean? Is she going back with Chase?"
The pair watched the hunter. He was one of the few that was up, but he was reading the newspaper and not paying attention to those around him. That was what he wanted others to believe anyway.
They knew him better than that. Chase was merely ignoring some of the stares and whispers of those that had turned up to breakfast early. Though he did seem quite interested in a new message he had just received.
"She’s a hunter, and Chase’s right hand.. girl." Finn hated the pang of jealousy he felt at even saying those words, let alone the part where they worked together a lot. Sariah was always by his side.
Chase got to see Sariah more than him, and he was her mate! He got to see her dazzling face daily in person, whereas they had to schedule video calls with each other. It really wasn’t fair.
But that was going to change.
"So, what are you going to do?" A new, feminine voice asked, making the pair turn their heads in the Alpha Queen’s direction.
Alpha King Damon was following closely behind; his gaze was scanning the area, always alert like all the pack leaders. He nodded at a few pack members and quietly greeted others who passed them by.
Seeing Aila, though, made Finn feel worse. His Queen was right there when he was at the tipping point about leaving. Looking at her face made him hesitant about quitting. But the bond and the feeling of his mate only upstairs urged him to always be with her.
Aila read the indecision and the battle crossing his face and placed her hand on his shoulder, gazing at him with a gentle smile. "If you need to go.. I will not hold it against you. You should go."
"Go?!" Damon’s head snapped in their direction, his attention now theirs.
Aila elbowed the Alpha and his aggressive response.
"You’ve found you’re mate.. We know how hard it is to be apart.. and from the mark I saw on her chest.." Aila trailed off with a knowing smile. "It will be ten times harder now."
Wait, when did she see it?
His thoughts trailed off as Sariah entered. Barefaced of any make-up, her hair wet and cascading down her back and wearing only black combat trousers and a black vest top, and one of the smallest in the room in frame and height, she was absolutely stunning. She stopped in front of him and stood on her tiptoes as Finn bent slightly to meet her kiss.
"Your coffee.." He murmured before his lips pulled back into another heart-breaking smile, his gaze lingering on the mate mark proudly gleaming against Sariah’s skin above her collarbone. Proudly on show for everyone to see.
"Hmm, thank you. And.." Sariah looked directly at Aila. "Finn’s not going anywhere."
"He isn’t?" "I’m not?!"
Aila and Finn asked at the same time, looking at Sariah confused. Chase then appeared out of the corner of Finn’s line of sight. The hunter leaned his arms against the kitchen island from the other side to them, a lazy smile on his lips.
"Aila.. I think we should discuss a new position that has opened up in the hunters, one that involves a very trustworthy hunter, a ’specialist’ working for both the pack and the Hunters Association. That’s if you’re happy to have Sariah living here and working for the pack?"
Aila shared a look with Damon, a smile playing on her lips before she nodded. "Should we go to my office to go through the requirements of this.. specialist?" Aila winked at Finn and Sariah before leading Chase away from the kitchen.
What just happened?
Sariah giggled and clapped her hands together, glee apparent on her features before she looked up at Finn and practically pushed his chin up to close his opened mouth. His heart was still beating rapidly, his mind still processing what just happened.
He was ready to give it all up for his mate but now.. It seemed.. they found a way to be together?
Finn’s gaze moved to Sariah, his hand curling into the back of her neck, and he lowered his face to hers, stopping just before her lips as his eyes flicked between hers. He was overjoyed by this, but he needed to make sure his mate was happy.
"Do you want this?" He whispered, uncaring for those who had been around them. They took the hint and started to disperse. Well, Damon practically forced Ajax away to give the pair space.
Sariah tilted her head slightly. "What a ridiculous question! Of course, I do! I don’t want to leave you! And I don’t want you forced to leave here either."

"Now you’re forced to live here-"
"There is nothing forced about this. I’m happy to come and stay here. As long as I’m with you, that’s all that matters."
"What about your life before?" Finn asked. He still refrained from smiling too much, his brows forced to look stern as he stared back at his mate. Sariah was such a good person, and he wouldn’t put it past her to put him above herself for his happiness.
But they were a team. If Sariah wasn’t happy, then neither was he.
"What about it?" Sariah grasped his free hand between her small ones.
"Finn, I didn’t like that life. Working with Chase has been great. We uncovered a lot and have reorganised the hunters, but if I can work from within the pack.. Then I’m much happier here. I don’t want to take you away from here.
"I’m much happier here than after the many years of training and disappointment from my parents. Trust me, Finn. I feel more at ease with you and everyone here who has welcomed me with such warmth."
Finn’s shoulders relaxed, and he pressed his lips against hers, unable to hold back now. It was like all his dreams coming true. He was in a role that he loved, protecting his Luna, and his mate was going to be by his side, not across the country, getting hurt and him unable to do anything about it.
"If you’re sure," he whispered against her lips.
Sariah nodded her head slightly, their lips brushing each other as she did and spoke. "I promise."
