Hunter of Mysterious Creature-Chapter 518 - 106: Underground Commercial Street
The scavenger let out a gasp, and his finger trembled, causing the arrow nocked on the string to shoot towards Sun Hang.
Sun Hang reached out, catching the flying arrow mid-air—it was merely a sharpened disposable chopstick, with its tip wrapped in tin snipped from a can and the rear fletched with two feathers from a shuttlecock, held together by tape.
Although such makeshift arrows couldn’t compare to real arrows in lethality, a shot to a vital area like the throat could still be deadly. Moreover, the homemade crossbow, using several hard rubber bands as a string, was powerful enough at this range to penetrate a one-centimeter-thick solid wood board... definitely a weapon under regulation.
"I... I didn’t mean it!" Seeing the arrow shot out, and Sun Hang catch it directly with his hand, the scavenger panicked, "I... I really just slipped my hand! I didn’t mean to kill you! Really! Honestly!"
He hesitated for a moment, then dropped the crossbow and fell to his knees, trembling. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"You just threatened me with death, so I guess that can’t be considered manslaughter... Wouldn’t it be attempted murder?" Sun Hang pondered, "According to the laws of Tianfu City, attempted murder might not earn a death sentence, but a term of three to ten years seems likely... By the way, do you know the maximum sentence for attempted murder?"
"I... I don’t know..." The other person’s voice was almost crying.
"Oh, I almost forgot, I’m a Mysterious Creature Hunter, not an ordinary civilian, so I could consider you a member of a Cult Organization or a rebel, in which case it wouldn’t be an ordinary court judging you..."
"Please... please..."
"However... I didn’t plan on handing you over to anyone..." Sun Hang looked at the other with amusement.
"Really?" The scavenger lifted his head immediately, a gleam of hope flashing in his eyes.
"As a Mysterious Creature Hunter, encountering cultists worshiping mysterious creatures, just shoot them on the spot, why go through so much trouble?"
The spark in the scavenger’s eyes was extinguished instantly.
The next second, he sprang up, shoving several chairs stacked on a table towards Sun Hang and dashed for the door!
Yet, he hadn’t even reached the door when something seemed to grab his ankle, giving a hard pull backward, sending him crashing heavily to the ground!
"Ouch!!"
Sun Hang bent down, seized his greasy, filthy long hair, and dragged him entirely out into the hallway.
The scavenger appeared obese, but it was due to ill-fitting clothes stuffed with items. Once much of the stuff scattered out, Sun Hang noticed how thin the scavenger really was, with wrists as skinny as a twig.
"Oh, it’s a girl?" Sun Hang glanced at her throat, "What’s that saying... ’A beauty in the making, why choose thievery?’"
Perhaps to protect herself, the scavenger’s face was smeared black with soot, and her voice was somewhat androgynous, which made Sun Hang initially think she was a prepubescent boy, until he noticed she had no Adam’s apple and realized she was indeed a girl.
Yet, Sun Hang felt no sympathy for her gender, stomping on the scavenger’s back, mushrooms rapidly disarming her of various blades and iron spikes hidden in her belt and boots, then tore open her coat, dumping out numerous small tools and "stolen goods" from inside.
"Tsk... this expensive?" Sun Hang noticed the stolen coat still had a price tag, and it was surprisingly eleven thousand, enough to buy a decent car.
Having just torn apart a small car, Sun Hang tossed the wreck aside, saying to the trembling scavenger below, unsure if it was fear or cold causing the shiver: "This coat’s on you."
"Please... don’t kill me..."
"Give me a reason." Sun Hang poised a metal blade between his fingers, leaning forward.
"You’re... you’re here for the mysterious creature, right?" The scavenger shivered and said, "I... I might know where that creature is..."
"Liar."
"I am not lying!"
"If you knew there was a mysterious creature here, would you still come around to steal? Wouldn’t you run as far away as you could?" Sun Hang scoffed.
"I... I just felt something was off at that place, never thought of it as a mysterious creature at first..." The scavenger cautiously explained, "Besides, among the nearby districts, only here had the most stuff left... For survival, I had to..."
Sun Hang lifted his foot from her, pulling her off the ground: "Keep talking."
"There was a rumor here... saying several people had gone missing... uh, all like me... scav... scaven... little thieves..." The other stammered, "Some said there was a mysterious creature, but... those rumors were never confirmed, no one knew if those missing people ever existed since those spreading the rumors couldn’t even name them..."
