Hunter of Mysterious Creature-Chapter 546 - 122: Yao Yu
Ten minutes ago.
Watching the massive balloon on the screen bounce several times on the ground before safely landing, the entire launch site was overwhelmed by a cheer. A male engineer directly embraced a petite female researcher beside him and kissed her deeply. Two technicians, who appeared to have Siberian Federation ancestry, somehow produced a small flask and began to drink heavily, taking turns. Some even took off their cold-weather suits in the subzero temperatures, shirtless, and started running wildly around the launch site. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The atmosphere of the project team, repressed for several days, was directly ignited with the success of the test, and many shed tears of joy.
However, amidst this enthusiastic atmosphere, there was one person who stared anxiously at the monitoring screen in front of him, clenching his fist stuffed in his pocket.
This person was Yao Yu, the direct supervisor of Hunter "Thermobaric."
After the ignition launch of the PFDA test machine with Thermobaric aboard, Yao Yu noticed that Sun Hang, who originally stood beside the launch tower, had disappeared—he searched everywhere for traces of Sun Hang but couldn’t see even a shadow of him... until he saw Sun Hang, who arrived at the destination even ahead of PFDA, in the drone’s monitoring footage.
Why was he there? How did he get over there?
The same questions that plagued Thermobaric seemed to emerge in Yao Yu’s mind nearly instantaneously.
This guy named Sun Hang... What is he planning to do?
Suddenly, Yao Yu felt a strong sense of danger welling inside him. He almost instinctively turned around and casually slipped a palm-sized PDA from the table into his pocket.
Yao Yu walked quickly towards the outside, but as he just turned his head, he accidentally collided with the guy who was shirtlessly running wildly.
"Huff... huff... You... You’re Dr. Yao who is responsible for Thermobaric, right?" The guy came to a halt, panting heavily due to excitement as he kept stepping in place to maintain body warmth, "You... huff... where are you planning to go at this time?"
"I’m going to the bathroom," Yao Yu said casually, "My stomach has been uncomfortable while I was on the way here, but now seeing the experiment succeed, I can finally peacefully go relieve myself."
"Oh, oh, for the bathroom, you go over that way, turn left after you see the yellow and black warning sign, walk fifty meters and go around the pile of containers to get there. Oh, and remember to activate the temperature control device in the restroom, or otherwise you’ll catch cold easily," the shirtless guy told Yao Yu.
Yao Yu glanced at the mist rising continuously from the surface of the guy’s body. Despite wanting to ridicule someone bare-skinned in minus-ten-degree conditions for unashamedly saying, "Be careful of catching cold," the crisis he felt inside crushed his desire to retort.
Yao Yu nodded and smiled, "Thanks for the reminder. Let me clear my bowels first, and I’ll join you all in celebration later."
"Great!" The shirtless guy didn’t linger, quickly running past Yao Yu.
But Yao Yu hadn’t walked far before the man called to him again: "Wait a minute, Dr. Yao!"
Yao Yu stiffened instantly, his footing frozen mid-step.
He turned his head somewhat rigidly, maintaining his previous smile, and asked, "Is there... anything else?"
"There’s a celebration feast tonight! Eat all the roast meat you want! Drink all the beer you want! Make sure you come!" The shirtless guy said to Yao Yu.
Only then did Yao Yu realize this bloke wasn’t some regular researcher but the second-in-command of the PFDA project team, with authority just below Song Yarong.
With Song Yarong not here, this bare-bodied bloke was now the person with the highest say.
"Alright, I’ll definitely come."
"There really aren’t any normal folks at the Celestial City Mysterious Creature Research Institute, are there?" Yao Yu muttered to himself, hastening his steps again.
He soon reached the yellow-black warning sign, but instead of turning left, he headed straight for the exit of the test site.
To ensure confidentiality of the test, the exit had three checkpoint cards, with a buffer zone of one kilometer between each. The space between the innermost checkpoint and the middle one served as a temporary parking lot for staff vehicles.
Yao Yu was stopped before the innermost checkpoint.
"Please show your credentials," the guard at the checkpoint requested.
Yao Yu offered his credentials.
"Permission verified, identity verified," the guard scanned Yao Yu’s credentials with an instrument like a temperature gun and then scanned his face before returning the credentials, "Where are you headed, Dr. Yao Yu?"
"If you want to leave the test site during the experiment, you need permission documents from the project supervisor... that’s the rule, hope you can comply."
"I’m not leaving," Yao Yu promptly said, "I just left something in the car at the parking lot; I’ll grab it and come right back."
"What item is it?" the guard quickly asked.
"Heart medication," Yao Yu responded swiftly, "I have congenital heart disease and must take medicine at fixed times. I hurried over here earlier and left the bag with the pill bottle in the car."
The two guards exchanged glances. Generally speaking, allowing someone out without permission documents is against regulations, but if he’s only going to the parking lot for medication, and not leaving the test site... Besides, heart disease is no joke; if medication gets delayed, it could turn into a life-threatening situation.
