Chapter 47: Chapter 47 - Frozen Fire – Part 4
Cough! Cough!
Noah was coughing up blood into his hand. His insides churned as if something was relentlessly trying to force its way out.
"...Is this serious...? How am I supposed to concentrate like this?" he said, wiping the blood from his mouth with his arm. freeweɓnøvel.com
[There is nothing that can be done to help you with that]
[The pain you’re feeling now is caused by the connection between the Frozen Fire and your phoenix constitution]
’I already know that...! Say something useful.’
[Your constitution is taking shape—awakening—even if it isn’t yet complete]
[It’s trying to break free from you and meet the flames]
’...So I just need to do that first, and tear it out from inside me so that the pain stops?’
[For you, that would probably be great; but for the girl...]
’What a miserable life...’
Noah raised his hand and moved toward the curtain surrounding the bed. He pulled it back, and as soon as the fabric tore, he saw the young woman lying there once again.
A nineteen-year-old girl, with long reddish hair interspersed with an increasing number of blue strands, a pale face, and an expression that was strangely calm—though it sometimes contorted when the pain arose.
"Alright... let’s get this over with..."
Noah placed his palm on her stomach, closed his eyes, and began to transfer his Qi into her body. The energy flowed gracefully, penetrating her skin, muscles, and flesh, traveling along the inner channels of Qi.
’...It’s a lot easier than I imagined.’
He concentrated, and the Qi flowed slowly throughout her body. Noah had expected it to be complicated, but surprisingly it was simpler than the first time he cultivated.
Even though the process was easy, it wasn’t fast: it took a few minutes for his Qi to reach the internal flame within her—a very hard-to-reach spot where his Qi kept dispersing every time it neared.
’Finally...!’ he sighed. ’What do I do now-?!’
Before he could finish the sentence, something strange happened. The flame, which had seemed tiny, suddenly grew into an intense flash—right next to Noah’s hand. He jerked his arm away from the girl’s stomach and recoiled.
Her body became enveloped in an immense blue fire. Noah, still caught between relief for having withdrawn and astonishment, swiped his hand to his side—and didn’t notice that clinging to his skin was a small remnant of flame, attached to a fine "thread" of energy that extended all the way to the girl’s body.
When he saw it, he felt a searing pain and dropped to his knees.
’Argh... What the hell is this...?!’
For a moment, he looked at the hand touching the floor. There, the blue fire still crackled. He looked up—and saw only the immense flame rapidly drawing near.
Before it could hit him, something inside him vibrated and burst forth. Noah saw a phoenix appear before him in a reduced version of both size and power, causing the fire to retreat away toward the girl.
BUM! – a loud explosion was heard outside.
"What was that?!" exclaimed the old man, rising from the stairs.
The man and the woman almost simultaneously considered running to the room, but before they could even reach the door, both fell to their knees.
They trembled, their faces etched with utter despair. They felt an overwhelmingly terrifying pressure that made them feel utterly worthless—a pressure that rendered them motionless, not daring to move even a muscle.
The natural reaction of the weak when confronted with an absolute difference in power.
