Chapter 70: Chapter 70 -

In a barren desert where the sun burned fiercely enough to scorch the skin of the frail, Fusu flew at high speed, slicing through the air as if the heat couldn’t touch him. He felt nothing from the sun, paid no mind to his surroundings. He simply pressed forward, lost in thought.

Ting must be alright, right...?

That boy says all kinds of things, but he doesn’t seem like the type who’d just leave her there...

He hovered in the still, hot air.

...Or would he...?

He hesitated, uncertain about his decision.

As he floated above the desert, three men in black passed overhead, flying toward the city where she remained.

Those uniforms... So he already—

He narrowed his eyes.

Fusu dove like a hawk, intercepting them. He stopped in front of the group, hovering with a slight smile on his lips. He blocked their path as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

The man in the center spoke in a neutral tone:

— Could you step aside, sir? We’re in a hurry...

The smile vanished. Fusu stared directly at them before replying:

— I might’ve moved... but first I’d like to know what three royal guards are doing in a remote little city, far beyond the prince’s reach.

— How do you...? — One of the men began, but the middle one cut in, wearing a falsely polite smile.

— I’m afraid you’re mistaken. We’re just three mercenaries. How could we be royal guards?

— Of course... three "mercenaries" wearing the prince’s insignia on their belts.

The three looked down, startled.

That bastard...

The man on the right acted on impulse. He lunged forward—but in the next instant, he saw his own body flip upside down as his head drifted away from his neck. Then his torso gave way, succumbing to gravity.

He knows who we are, but still dares attack...? Could he really be—?!

The man on the left roared, charging with fury.

— You’re dead, old man!

But before he could get close, Fusu simply raised a finger. A subtle gesture.

The man’s body disintegrated into red fragments, bursting in every direction.

While Fusu dealt with the second, the one in the middle managed to slip away. He bolted in the opposite direction, flying as fast as he could.

What the hell...? Someone this strong shouldn’t be in a place like this... Unless he really is...

Fusu appeared in front of him, cutting off the thought.

— Aaah!

The man froze in midair, heart racing. He began to retreat, trembling.

— S-Sir Fusu...! You shouldn’t be doing this to us...

Fusu blinked, visibly surprised.

— You know who I am...?

Desperate to keep his composure, the man thought:

Yes! Good thing we were briefed about him... Shame I didn’t remember sooner...

He let out a shaky breath. Forcing a smile—unconvincing, but visible—he stammered:

— Of course, sir! How could I not...? O Great One... brother to the Emperor...

— I see. That’s unfortunate, then.

— Because now, it’s impossible for me to let you leave here alive.

The man went pale. Tears—born of sheer terror—ran down his face. He begged:

— Please, sir... I would never dare betray you. I swear... please, let me go...

Fusu closed his eyes. Then slowly turned away and began to float off.

The man, trembling, believed he had been spared. A shaky smile broke across his face, tears of relief welling up.

He watched Fusu disappear ahead.

But something felt wrong.

His perspective shifted. The world flipped upside down. In that instant, he understood.

— You basta—

That was his last thought. His final breath.

At least now, Ting will be safe for a while. At least from the ones sent to find her...

As for the people in that city...

That boy will probably help her if anything happens.

...I hope so.
